It's a collecting thing, I think.

I was/am a fan (I don't really know, I watched seasons 1 and 2 and then just kinda got... eh about it) but I never went so far as to get toys. The most I have is a sticker that I keep on the back of my phone. But it's sort of a pride thing, it's like you like something enough that you want to express that you like it, you know?
You like Breaking Bad but you wouldn't buy action figures of it, would you buy a T-shirt, or make your wallpaper Breaking Bad themed? I'd say buying figurines of MLP is like that but... more intense. To the next level; some people get more into fandoms than others, and I guess getting the dolls is a manifestation of that.

I don't really understand it either, I like the show, but I don't buy merchandise, I can understand people wanting to collect it though.(people collect fucking anything these days) I wouldn't consider myself a closet brony though, if someone asked me about I'd tell them the truth, but I don't tell everyone about it as if I'm special because of it. I'm also not a neckbeard or have autism.

I'll start straight off by saying bronies bother me. However I think one of the reasons they seem to be so obnoxious is because a lot of the "fans" just do it to stand out from the crowd and draw attention. A lot of these people just do it so they have an excuse to be different and escape their mediocrity. The reason bronies stand out more then other fandoms is because the ones that do choose to make themselves stand out do it with flashy colors and other things which seem weird to most people. So they are just more noticeable. MLP isn't my thing, but if other people want to enjoy it that's completely up to them. I think a lot of the true fans would agree with me that that the ones running around in public doing their best to make everyone notice and look at them like they are special(whether that be in a good way or bad) are really just posers like you get in any sub-culture. It's no different then weaboos, wiggers, rich boys dressed as rednecks, fake stoners, or any other group which is outside the norm. The only reason bronies seem to be everywhere now is because it is the newest fad to hit the scene. Soon enough the fake fans will have moved on to something else leaving the real fans to enjoy their show without dickheads ruining their image, and I say more power to them.
