that's not what it is at all. when you sleep you go through different stages of NREM nd REM sleep at different intervals, the cycle continues as long as you stay asleep and can repeat itself over and over. when you oversleep and wake up, you had started a new cycle but woke up right in the middle of one the stages, you're awake, but your brain is still wired in that stage's sleep mode. that's why when you take short naps that last for an hour or less or you just happen to get the appropriate amount, you feel good when waking up because you woke up the end of or the transition between different stages

To compound on your vast information of the sleep cycles.

A typical sleep cycle lasts 4 Hours. Doctors recommend you get 2 full sleep cycles per night, or one full cycle, twice. ie. I go to sleep at midnight, get up at 4am. Go back to bed at noon, get up at 4pm.

yeah, that'd be the ideal way to handle it but it's not common just because of the ways our schedules are. same sense in how it'd be better to have 5-6 small meals a day rather than 3 square meals. us humans are kinda stuck between what's healthy and what's convenient for us

Thank you, one of the primary reasons that I made this through the strenuous act of putting text on an image was in the hopes that someone would explain the phenomenon.

How can one sleep 12 hours?
User avatar #19 to #16 - drainbramage (04/11/2014) [-]
I've been known to sleep for 18 hours multiple times. If you've got nothing to do, sleep is the answer.

I don't understand why people sleep so much. If you're sleeping 12 hours a day you're losing half your life.

I'd be doing something unproductive regardless. Better to catch up on sleep I missed from only getting 4-6 hours a night most days than playing vidya for hours on end.
