In the middle ages when the prince of Kievan Rus (Russia) wanted to choose a religion to connect Rus to rest of the world he didn't choose Islam cause "drinking is the joy of the russes"

This actually isn't so cool. When I was in highschool, I became good friends with a foreign exchange student, who was from Russia. The stories she told were horrendous, because of the soft drink law, it was commonplace for young adults/teenagers to become alcoholics before the age of 21. And this happened everywhere. Hell, some places didn't even bother obeying the liqueur laws, and would sell vodka and **** , you people under the age.

People here also usually ignore alchohol laws, but know 100s of people, i know no alchoholics

Here in Serbia no one cares about alchocol laws and we dont have rampant alcohol problem. First time I got insanly drunk was when I had 15 years and that experience just tought me to be more carefull with my drinking in future

Yee, I think here on the Balkans we don't really care for such laws. All sorts of alcohol are sold to teenagers under 18 and I wouldn't say that we have an alcohol problem.. alongside all the other **** that's going about these years.
User avatar #56 to #44 - zigap (11/14/2013) [-]
Agreed. No one here gives a **** about those laws. You can get away with saying you forgot your ID card, and in most cases they don't even ask for that.

maybe the reason why these countries have a low avg IQ, where countries with better alcohol laws have higher avg IQ

I wouldn't called it close-mindedness, I just don't see how martial law is going to (successfully) happen, on top of the fact that there are more important issues to look at first before worrying about government boogymen coming after us.

I was making a prime example thats obvious about the US. I'm not afraid of their "goons" coming after us. The simple fact that we're on the verge of an economic collapse and how the government bought two billion hollowpoints for DHS for "training purpose's" and 2,700 military grade armored vehicles (or MRAP, whatever you wanna call it) and the advent of Bill H.R 4310 and the NSA wire-tapping into america, and the mainstream media focusing on kanye's dumbass baby instead of the 300 gallons of radioactive water being poured into the pacific from the Fukashima Diachii powerplant, then I'm gonna be a little PO'd at my government. SO. instead of being a jackass, you could stop assuming I wear tinfoil hats. If you wanna have a civilized talk with me about how the government is being a corporate military industrial complex then be my guest. Otherwise keep to yourself and don't be an a-hole

government has nothing to do with what the media wants to show or not, and judging by this it makes your credibility pretty low

also there is no economic collapse around.... that is too comes from the media and from people like flips their **** because omg we went over 100% debt to income, while UK manages just "fine" with 406%
User avatar #163 to #158 - ancientaliens (11/15/2013) [-]
Actually, ever single mainstream media company (i.e Fox News or CNN) are owned by corporations, and there are co-owners and former owners of corporations inside the congress, senate, and other government titles. So in a sense, they do have a say in what the media says. And yes, you're an a-hole jackass not because you had a differing opinion, but for instantly calling me a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist instead of asking me for the credibility of my argument. So instead of resorting to insults, just ask instead
#165 to #163 - anon (11/15/2013) [-]
i'm not that guy (or i am too an asshole now?) however i do share the same opinion of his... you are just paranoid.

while media belongs to corporations (big fckin whoo.. what did you indie thing?) media itself cannot be controlled by the government (this is by law, correct me if i'm wrong)

you know why media shows kanye instead of the other thing? money, which comes from ads and subs, which comes from viewers... those viewers (at least most of them...sadly) are more interested in kanye and stupid things than anything else.

a bit of a sidetrack (somewhat) example: syfy airs more wrestling and reality shows than actual sci-fi, why? same reason it interests the viewers the most
User avatar #170 to #165 - ancientaliens (11/15/2013) [-]
You know, I may be paranoid, and I honestly respect you for suddenly calling me a tinfoil hat wearing cat. I agree and share your views on the media thing, it is about money and corporate greed and all the viewers who care more about kanye are brain-mush. While I'm not positive (although very sure) its law that the government cannot control media, I don't really have hope in laws and restrictions, seeing that the NSA was a pure violation of our 4th Amendment
#174 to #170 - anon (11/15/2013) [-]
well, if you think about it. that thing is more than 200 years old, and it doesn't actually said you can't wire tap anyone (well, obviously since there wasn't anything to wiretap).

and don't think this actually means constant listening and recording... this is far from that. you can't actually believe they have the capacity to constantly monitor more than 300 million people 24/7... even if they wanted it's impossible. they just look for keywords (of suspected ppl) to catch and/or monitor terrorists. how i see that it is a pretty powerful tool against terrorism.
#177 to #174 - ancientaliens (11/15/2013) [-]
Can't reply to that anymore either.

It was good talking with you anon, I'm glad someone could have a respectful conversation with me about this. Although the time has come to go drink my sorrows away. May we meet again someday anon, perhaps even 40 years in the future and not know it. G'day. pic semi-related
User avatar #175 to #174 - ancientaliens (11/15/2013) [-]
Yeah, it is over 200 years old, I'll say that, but its still our constitution. And yeah, I agree that they can't 24/7 monitor that many people, although the thing that very much bugs me is they can track anything an individual is doing if they needed too (regardless if they're a terrorist or not) and the main point of why I hate this, is according to Bill H.R 4310 (or the NDAA ((National Defense Authorization Act)) 2013) the government can't legally detain you, label you a "terrorist" and drag you off to god knows where if you own more than two semi-automatic weapons, own more than a weeks supply of food and/or are a veteran of war. The veteran part makes me PO'd because instead of helping veterans with their mental problems from war, they label them a threat to society
User avatar #171 to #170 - ancientaliens (11/15/2013) [-]
respect you for not* calling me that
#176 to #171 - anon (11/15/2013) [-]
can't reply to that anymore

well i'm not actually sure how they want it to work, but maybe they need some sort of evidence before they can label anyone a "terrorist". (maybe not, dunno, doesn't seem reasonable tho in a country with "innocent until proven otherwise" mentality)

and as for veterans... well... war pretty much ***** you up mentally and there were "many" cases for "veterans" going nuts with guns. so i don't actually blame them for that (but i can see why we should).
#164 to #163 - chocolatewhite (11/15/2013) [-]
I can't handle all this red, seeing as you have to resort to down-thumbing me. You called me close-minded, making the assumption that I was some guppy who just followed the mainstream media. Again, you're a hypocrite and are doing the same things that I've done to upset you. #166 to #164 - ancientaliens (11/15/2013) [-]
I'll admit, I'm being a douche, but you know Hitler promised not to invade Poland, plus I never said you followed the mainstream media, I was stating how stupid they are. Huge debt, police beating people senseless, nignog infestation, every other day mass shootings, the average US citizen is dumber than a bag of rocks (not to mention a fanatical bible thumper). Your country is on the brink of class war, race war, economic crisis unlike any other country has ever seen. Hated and laughed at by most of the world. You still have people who believe the world is 6k years old for christ sake. We here on the balkans might not be as rich, or have your military might but at least we are free.

gonna copy paste:

huge debt? also huge income. "it has debt-to-gdp ratio of 106% (which isn't that bad either, UK has 406%, germany 142% luxemburg over 3000% (you read that right))"

others by order: not true, don't know, not true, if that would be true US wouldn't be that high with it's avg IQ, so what US has the strongest and most advanced military, not true, are you serious?, kinda true but it says more about the other countries than the US since US gives more aid than any other country, religion, because we are not free... right media says so it's true

#124 to #117 - anon (11/14/2013) [-]
At least when US gave money to countries it was mostly aid, while when russia did it, it was mostly loan (i must know, i'm from one of the countries that your awesome country helped to bury itself in debt)

US annually provides more money to countries that need it than any other country.

even just now US sent it's aircraft to help the Philippines providing news.yahoo.com/aquino-under-pressure-over-typhoon-aid-u-carrier-024020592--sector.html while russia did nothing

1st off, i'm not russian.
2nd, yeah it's totally about helping the people and not about having a military presence there, on a strategic place close to China and Japan, and certainly not worth mentioning that the Philippines are the no.1 hotspot for islamist terrorists.

it has debt-to-gdp ratio of 106% (which isn't that bad either, UK has 406%, germany 142% luxemburg over 3000% (you read that right)) , because it has almost 18 debt and more than 17 trillion income.

US still has the largest economy and income with more than 17 trillion, which is double of the second place's income, which is china.

just because it is ranked in 7th place by gdp per capita, it doesn't mean the country earns less than those.

so please, it is you who should actually do the "research"
