Unfortunately they don't have terribly long life spans, although 60 isn't unheard of. My Aunts step brother had downs and passed recently he was i think 58. They hadn't expected him to live to 40 even with the amazing level of care they gave him. I am definitely anti abortion but there are limits to what a reasonable person should expect.

I have an Aunt with Downs and we have a home taking care of her as my other aunt got to old to look after her, and my family moved out of state.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think that a lot of Down syndrome people either have connections with organizations that can help them with living independently, or in communities with other downers.

Or are more or less fully capable to take care of themselves, with a little help from time to time.

Tough I could be wrong.

my upstairs neighbor has down syrndrom and lives unassisted. He works as a dishwasher. My mother taught life skills (special ed) at the highschool level, those kids learn how to work, how to cook, how to clean, basically, how to take care of themselves. Usually they will have a social worker that checks on them periodically to make sure everything is ok, but no unless they have a severe case, they don't need special care their whole lives.

Depends on each case, some are functional, some aren't at all. Functional people with down syndrome are very rare most of them are like childrens, like they can be alone for an afternoon, but that pretty much the limit.

You're pretty much right on the money there, as far as Norway's concerned at least. Some live in said communities along with others who may or may not have downs, but generally have some kind of condition along the lines of physical or mental retardation, but a good amount are quite independent, and get by with a scheduled visit once a week, or whenever they feel like making contact themselves. There's huge variety and everyone is treated on a case by case basis.

Neither can I fully agree nor disagree to you.
Those people I've been working with where partly people living a very happy life. They weren't as smart and aware of the world as we, healthy people are - of course - but they were aware enough that they were alive and what their purpose of life is.
On the other hand, I've also met people in those jobs who seemed to do nothing else then getting fed and taking *****. No happiness, no emotions. They seemed just to be human casings without anything inside of it. That are the ones who were sad to watch.

Having worked with special needs kids for a substantial period of time, I can assure you they understand the world well enough, what they don't understand is deceit, maliciousness, and manipulative behavior. If you're reliant on having someone translate the world's functions for you on a constant basis, you don't understand the world. Living with a disability is just that; a disability. However, if the disability means you'll never be able to live independent, then you're a prisoner of the world's mercy. Not a good situation to be in.

I didn't say Down's syndrome should be the line, did I? Other major disabilities are just as debilitating, and it would be up to the parent to judge whether or not it's sensible to bring a child into a world that wasn't meant for them (in a natural state, these people would simply die).

Hitler analogies are so common these days nobody cares about them anymore. He was also for their deaths post-birth, not just abortions. And as we all know, abortions prior to week 6 are inconsequential as the nerve system is not developed well enough for the fetus to register pain. It has about the same biological status as a tree at that point; living, but without brain power it's just a conglomerate of cells.

And no, I don't care about your absolutistic rants about how God says unborn children are just the same as living people. I swear by the scientific evidence that no nerves = no pain, and if it can't register pain, it cannot be offended. Hence why it's a parent's decision; they are literally the only ones who can be hurt in an abortion.

None of these symptoms are available in a fetus younger than 6 weeks. Mostly because it doesn't have the necessary body parts to produce the symptoms.

You do realize a fetus prior to 6 weeks is just a lump of body cells, right? Not even close to looking like a human being. The only ailment a fetus can have in that stage is not sustaining life, at which point it will be stillborn anyway.

Read a little about pregnancy. Don't just assume life = human.

down syndrome also called trisomy 21. that means chromosome #21 is 3 times instead of two times in the cell core.
and since the chromosomes are responsible for how humans look like all people with three chromosomes on place 21 look the same
