Holy ****

no, srsly, I mean it
User avatar #66 to #30 - theturtletrolley (08/10/2014) [-]
I just downloaded it and checked it out, unfortunately there is no Japanese translation
User avatar #3 - jokexplain (08/09/2014) [-]
it's basically an OCR software [optical character recognition] mixed with a translator.
it does nothing groundbreaking on its own, but it combines two existing technologies very well.
#65 to #3 - John Cena (08/10/2014) [-]
"Very well" By which you mean it does what it's supposed to.

If you knew anything about programming you'd know that the part that requires the least amount of work is making the two work together.
User avatar #69 to #65 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
I don't know anything about programming, but I acknowledged that this app is not as innovative as either OCR or google translate.
so basically I agree with your point.

Well done. Let's get married.

Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation.
User avatar #27 - howunexpected (08/10/2014) [-]
This app didn't take off. The developers made it in such a way that it translates individual words without taking into consideration the other words in the sentence. As a result, in many languages, the words did not fit together well, and sometimes became impossible to understand

I give up. What's the catch?
User avatar #44 to #1 - rennat (08/10/2014) [-]
That this video is 5 years old and the technology went nowhere.
User avatar #57 to #44 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
apart from launching an app for ios and android a few weeks ago with 1 million downloads?
apart from that, yeah it went nowhere
User avatar #49 to #1 - lotengo ONLINE (08/10/2014) [-]
mine doesnt work properly, maybe because the text i tried it out on was to small
User avatar #54 to #1 - capinsquiggles (08/10/2014) [-]
The catch is that, while it's a free app, you have to BUY language packs, last time I checked anyway, so if you went to Japan or something you'd have to buy the japanese language, I got the app on my ipod cause I live in a multi-cultural country and is useful
User avatar #61 to #54 - tenfinnvo ONLINE (08/10/2014) [-]
I refer you to comment 9. I just got the app when i wrote it, and at the moment all the packs were free. Perhaps it's some kind of a regional bug, but i'm not complaining.
User avatar #4 to #1 - jokexplain (08/09/2014) [-]
none, there's already software that recognizes text from pictures, and translating software.
this one combines the two, fantastically

User avatar #9 to #8 - tenfinnvo ONLINE (08/09/2014) [-]
Already tried. And for whatever reason, all language packs are free. Got the full version without paying a nickel. It's great!

and for some reason it also recognizes grammar.

101% true story bro.
User avatar #70 to #52 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
it doesn't recognize grammar. this post
doesn't claim that the app does.
it just so happens that word-for-word translation is grammatically accurate, for these few examples.
insincere advertising?
maybe, but I wouldn't display my app's shortcomings in an ad, dunno about you

User avatar #41 to #40 - demandsgayversion (08/10/2014) [-]

User avatar #5 to #2 - jokexplain (08/09/2014) [-]
it says 'word lens' in the content.
best bet is to google that
User avatar #6 to #5 - dabronydude (08/09/2014) [-]

dude I have the app. it's not infallible, but it certainly behaves like you would expect in the scenario depicted above.
there's the app name in the post. look it up and form an educated opinion for ****** sake
User avatar #72 to #71 - bluerangermartin (08/10/2014) [-]
The gif is fake. He said "it's fake" the content is fake. It is true. See comment 46
User avatar #73 to #72 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
#46 proves nothing.
yes the app sometimes gets it wrong when the picture is blurry [like when you're moving something]. so what? that's perfectly acceptable.
User avatar #74 to #73 - bluerangermartin (08/10/2014) [-]
The gif. is. fake.
User avatar #75 to #74 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
you're not going to be right if you keep repeating the same thing over and over.
1 million downloads, 4.5/5 average rating.
no one claiming it's false advertisement or anything of the sorts.
the app works.. sometimes. it's got its flaws but it definitely works when the text is clear and upper case, like in the gif.
the gif is real.
User avatar #76 to #75 - bluerangermartin (08/10/2014) [-]
Why do you keep talking about the app?
User avatar #77 to #76 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
the gif is taken straight from the promotional video for the app.
the app is real, the gif is real. just look it up and you'll see.
User avatar #78 to #77 - bluerangermartin (08/10/2014) [-]
The app is real. The gif is fake
User avatar #79 to #78 - jokexplain (08/10/2014) [-]
did you see the advertisement for the app on google play.
a portion of it constitutes the gif.
i've had it in my hands and it works exactly like the gif shows.
everyone claims it works like the gif shows.
do you understand why it's illogical to maintain your opinion?
because I don't know how else to explain myself.
