I honestly think Yang had it either way, but I do think they should avoid using heavily customizable characters in the future. Cloud and Tifa's analyses were all over the place, because there is little canon material to work with and their moves vary too much. For example, how can we fairly give them materia? In-game they can wear like 20 materia of varying effect, but how would you pick how many and which ones? And don't get started on the thousands of potential combinations of equipment, which also makes materia slots vary.
And putting them against each other doesn't work either. The Pokemon Battle Royale was a complete mess. They had to determine which 4 out of like 30 potential moves each one had access to, and then they tries to calculate stats, which can also heavily vary. And then they tried to calculate how their PERSONALITIES would change their behavior, which makes the outcome even more confusing. And also, without a basis to work on, a 3-mon free-for-all battle scheme just couldn't work, and very blatantly made it a "whoever loses first determines the winner" scenario
tl;dr Very player-dependant characters like Final Fantasy protagonists just don't belong in Death Battle.
I don't watch death battle too much but from what I've heard they don't usually put in characters like yang who haven't full realized their power. But Tifa would still win if we're going by what's cannon because she can take a supernova blast and still live.
The canon Supernova attack in the Japanese version was simply a blast of light, and not the literal Supernova seen in the American release. And even so, the American one was a gravity-based attack, meaning it dealt a fraction of a character's health, rather than flat damage, so it can't be used as a basis for durability.
A preview of the Japanese Safer Sephiroth. Supernova is at about 1:30
finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Supernova_ (ability) And this has info on the move. The original was one strong attack, while the extended one does 15/16ths of a character's current HP and inflicts status effects
**bigndn used "*roll picture*"** **bigndn rolled image**Sorry for the late reply. Although the original isn't as strong as the extended one, the blast of light destroys three planets and the party can still survive it. Also don't get me wrong. Yang might be able to beat tifa, but they have yet to fully flesh her out so she could become so much stronger. But like many others, i fell like they were just shilling out since a new season was coming up. But ty for the link. I never kenw the move was changed.
