Story time folks.
I was on holiday in Zante a few years back, towards the end of the holiday i came across a heavily pregnant cat seemingly giving birth. Though d'aawww then walked away. Came back a couple of days later to a swarm of flies and ants covering the cat. They were always everywhere so i wasnt sure if she was dead at first but on closer inspection she had been for a day or more. Gently poked the only kitten i could find which was silent and unmoving. Suddenly he woke up and started wailing, i immediately plunged my hands under the dead mother and grabbed the kitten. The mother had died giving birth to the second kitten and so all the rest were taken with her, and this little one was tiny and starving. Managed to bring him back to the hotel and get him feeding through a hollowed out pen and some milk. Unfortunately this happened on the eve of our flight, but luckily the hotel owner was a cat lover, and after we got him feeding and cleaned the maggots that were on him off of his mother she took him to a cat rescue center.

Seeing as he was the sole survivor i named him Shepard after Commander Shepard, i still think about him every now and then, really really wish i could have brought him with me, he was only a couple of days old though and too young for quarantine.

<---Here he is sleeping in my hand.

I always thought you would look like a fedora wearing feminist excuse for a male.

No disrespect or anything, but it just explains a lot of the beta you bring with you to this site daily.

Isn't it interesting how different people are? I've been swimming all my life, passed the swim part of the test for SAR easily (500 yd crawl swim within 12 min, 25 yd underwater swim X 4), but I can't do pull-ups or run for **** (best time on the 1.5 mile was 12 min, 48 sec).
#26 to #25 - humorouswaste (10/27/2013) [-]
u comparing urself to usain bolt? 1.5 mi run in 13 minutes is pretty dam solid
User avatar #27 to #26 - riverofchex (10/27/2013) [-]
I said that was my BEST time- EVER. That was the run I HAD to pass to graduate from boot camp- pretty much collapsed afterwards lol. I had failed the first two tries (you run 3 PT tests in Navy boot), so I made myself beat the RDC who was running the 18-year-old male max time as a reference (something like 13 min even, idr). MY max allowed time was 14:45 (19-21 year-old female time limit)
#28 to #27 - humorouswaste (10/27/2013) [-]
how is boot camp? im thinking about joining the forces if i fail university
User avatar #29 to #28 - riverofchex (10/27/2013) [-]
Well, unless you're in a spec ops division or godawful shape, Navy bootcamp was kind of a joke. It's on Lake Michigan, so pretty much everything training-wise takes place indoors. The hardest thing for me was staying awake while sitting in a silent room with a headset on staring at a computer screen (a lot of the training is virtual). I can't tell you much about the Army or Marines... My husband's Air Force though. His boot was near San Antonio and he bitched about how hot it was, but there was a lot more action-oriented training than Navy boot. The thing is, no matter which branch you choose, don't choose or not because of boot camp. Boot's only a couple months long, then it's behind you and your whole career ahead of you.
#30 to #29 - humorouswaste (10/27/2013) [-]
is the spec ops for ninjas?
User avatar #31 to #30 - riverofchex (10/27/2013) [-]
Lol nah, they just get a lot more pt in a lot more variety. The rest of us spend a lot of time staring at our trainee guides trying to stay awake.
#32 to #31 - humorouswaste (10/27/2013) [-]
do u have to do exams and stuff?
User avatar #33 to #32 - riverofchex (10/27/2013) [-]
Yes, on things like UCMJ, the creed, rank, weaponry, "machinery" (i.e. Navy= ships, planes, helos; AF=planes, etc), as well as different types of uniform inspections, locker or rack inspections, compartment (dorm) inspections, head/latrine inspections, you name it, you get examined or inspected on it.

I am not saying that, that guy is awesome for what he did, it's just not the kind of story we see much around FJ so I thought I was missing something. It's a guy who saved a puppy and named him lucky, I'm not minimizing what he did but it's kind of a simple story, and the name of the guy being written I thought it was the important part of that story. But yeah it's just an awesome random guy who saved his puppy

Chinese people would have waited until the dog drowned. Fished him out of the water, then roasted it with some vegetables. Then they would have named the dog 'Tasty'. They they would have gone on and eaten the neighbors children.
