you know, it's all fun and games until someone mentions the Vancouver Riots when Vancouvers hockey team lost to an American one and the city flipped their collective *****
User avatar #68 to #11 - iridium ONLINE (10/13/2013) [-]
The amount of people watching and alcohol consumed in Downtown Vancouver on that day, especially when ticket prices to the venue were 1700$ minimum, meant pretty much a guarantee that a riot was going to happen, whether or not Vancouver won the cup. They sent a lot of police downtown for that reason in preemptive measure, but there could have been a lot more prevention there.
User avatar #54 to #11 - psykojet (10/13/2013) [-]
So don't **** with their hockey teams or you will be sorry?
User avatar #27 to #11 - jaggedherp (10/13/2013) [-]
Which is a stupid thing to riot over, especially considering it's been 19 years since a Canadian team won (Last was Montreal in 94)
User avatar #50 to #27 - teoberry (10/13/2013) [-]
Well, we should've won in '04.
User avatar #29 to #27 - whycanticaps (10/13/2013) [-]
I'm just waiting for Toronto to win the Cup

If that happens there may not be a Toronto City anymore
User avatar #30 to #29 - jaggedherp (10/13/2013) [-]
Wouldn't that be the day. Rest of Canada celebrates, because **** Toronto

More government isn`t what we always want. We want less government intervention when it comes to gay rights. Whereas we want stricter rules on bankers and big corporations.

We don`t necessarily want more government to stop us from expressing opinions.
User avatar #86 to #78 - douthit (10/13/2013) [-]
That's what I don't get. Seems hypocritical to me. I'm for less government control over the economy and our personal lives. The freedom to spend your money as you wish is no less important than the freedom to marry who you want.
User avatar #87 to #86 - turtletroll (10/14/2013) [-]
But of course you have to limit what people can buy.

And the more government control in my mind would bring more freedoms to those who aren`t rich. The minimum wage is ridiculously low and so hard to live off that increasing it by a small amount would make a difference. Of course you also have to worry about the small businesses this affects.

The idea of all this being is that big companies would definitely pay lower then minimum wage if they could if it wasn`t for regulations against it. And they would be the ones restricting peoples rights to earn a good wage.
User avatar #88 to #87 - douthit (10/14/2013) [-]
Saying that we want more freedom for people is kind of hollow, because freedom is pretty subjective. Freedom in itself isn't a good thing. For example, the freedom to rape increases the freedom of rapists.

People already have the freedom to earn more than minimum wage, if both they and their employers sign a contract to that effect. But I don't think it's logical or consistent to say that employees should have the freedom to always earn more, while their employers shouldn't have the freedom to pay less.

And don't forget that the government is responsible for the 95% loss in value of the US dollar. What $1 would have bought you years ago, takes about $20 now.

What lesson did she learn

Don`t have opinions?
#79 to #77 - wyattgc (10/13/2013) [-]
No, not to be annoying and try to irritate the people that are there trying to keep the peace. Feel free to protest peacefully, however most of the time protests aren't peaceful anymore.
For example I live a couple blocks from a Delta Airlines building, many people were protesting for better treatment (rightfully so) however they were literally blocking traffic on nearby roads. Pissed people off enough to where cops were called, which the protestors gave a very hard time, causing more of a disturbance.
I don't remember MLK getting in anyone's face and yelling.
User avatar #80 to #79 - turtletroll (10/13/2013) [-]
Well what do you think the police where doing?

Getting up in their face and no doubt they shouting at the protester to disperse.
#82 to #80 - wyattgc (10/13/2013) [-]
Mob mentality. Sure go ahead and protest. However protest the proper way that sends a good message, these yelling, violent, and redundant protestors that claim police brutality aren't helping their cause.
You act like I'm against protesting....
#81 to #80 - wyattgc (10/13/2013) [-]
Because angrily shouting protests ALWAYS end well...Yeah...

where do you think riots begin from? every riot stars as a protest then progresses into a riot and almost every major protest develops into at least a low level riot....stupid ******* anons..
User avatar #76 to #24 - shockstorm (10/13/2013) [-]
that picture is pretty awesome.
#67 to #24 - Rascal (10/13/2013) [-]
And yet the million vet march was this sunday and all across major cities in the US there were peaceful protests with no rioting

Your answer doesn't contradict my statement, yet you seem to be angry at me for some reason.
User avatar #59 to #23 - wooyoungkim (10/13/2013) [-]
Really? Because when I was in the riot police, almost every ******* single "peaceful protest" involved lead pipes being swung at us.
