Not at the time, JoBeth Williams was involved in the swimming pool scene and he clarified in 2002 that they did in fact use real skeletons because fake ones required more labour.
User avatar #50 to #2 - jooby (11/09/2013) [-]
The skeletons used in the production were from India, which was where most skeletons used in schools and other productions can be purchased for little money.
User avatar #51 to #2 - mrloki (11/09/2013) [-]
well this may be true in your country, in mine most universities and a few research centers get a lot of bodies donated, also, some graveyard do sell bodies illegally (I have no idea on the price)

But I do believe that it's a lot cheaper for me to get a real body than a prop one (at least if I can use one that was donated to an university).

Four thousand is hardly what I'd call "thousands and thousands".

www.skullsunlimited.com/unique_products_by_subcategory.php?id=19

Skeletons are becoming slowly harder to get, causing a major leap in price, but it wasn't that long ago where you could buy one for a couple hundred.
User avatar #67 to #66 - godtherapist (11/09/2013) [-]
Two Thousand is "thousands" and another two thousand is also "thousands" so that would make four thousand, "thousands and thousands"
User avatar #68 to #67 - lyiat (11/09/2013) [-]
... No. The phrase "thousands and thousands" comes from the phrase "thousands upon thousands", or ten thousand.

they used cadavers in many of the scenes.

Not sure if it was due to cost differences, by my mom told me that.
User avatar #32 to #2 - basicargentinian (11/09/2013) [-]
nope, med student here, I can get a real one for $200 (argentine) [about 5 BigMacs], a plastic one will cost above the $700 US.

lies. a skeleton costs the same amount as a shovel.

several years ago i read something about a skeleton being worth about 2,200$ on the black market and that day my friends and me promised each other if we fail in life we'll start selling skeletons
User avatar #9 to #8 - godtherapist (11/08/2013) [-]
Don't worry about the black market, on the open market they are worth nearly 5000$
#10 to #9 - gisuar (11/08/2013) [-]
well there they wouldn't ask where they came from
User avatar #15 to #2 - teoferrazzi (11/08/2013) [-]
not if you murder them yourself
User avatar #25 - bryceface (11/08/2013) [-]
People are saying it ******** and that a real skeleton costs more. They're not that expensive if you make them yourself.

Actually, the actress was just taking a quick dive, to check the mud's temperature before filming. When she suddenly found this dead body, the cameras went on and captured the whole scene.

Actually the actress was just swimming and the scene was captured by a random bystander with a camera, it was a actual skeleton. Then they made a movie out of it.
User avatar #18 to #5 - OsamaBinLadenz (11/08/2013) [-]
Actually, the woman wasn't even an actress. The entire movie was unscripted and made out of a woman's reaction to finding a dead body while swimming.
#19 to #18 - taurusguy (11/08/2013) [-]
Nah, i heard she was an actress there to drown herself but they cut that out.
User avatar #21 to #19 - rubikzcubesolver (11/08/2013) [-]
Really? I heard she wasn't even a real person, just a figment of our imagination.
User avatar #28 to #21 - usernamecannotload (11/09/2013) [-]
really? I heard that a skeleton went to test the mud and was horrified to find a human woman

I literally thought this was a joke but people are taking this seriously. guys really
User avatar #36 to #20 - redthumbmaster (11/09/2013) [-]
Actually, I believe that they used cleaned human skeletons and made them look like decomposed corpses. Many sources will say this is true, but I don't really know for sure it is real. Yes, it seems stupid to believe it, but why would IMDB, Wikipedia, and legitimate news sources be confirming this? Makes you wonder...
User avatar #31 - basicargentinian (11/09/2013) [-]

They actually did use real skeletons for the movie but I am unsure if that is the reason why they used them.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=Onmf5LS4M7E An interesting video I saw years ago, sorry for the quality.
User avatar #13 - brigettasandra (11/08/2013) [-]
It says so on IMDb....

www.imdb.com/title/tt0084516/trivia

Don't know quite what a reputable source would be for this sort of fact.
User avatar #22 to #13 - Crusader (11/08/2013) [-]
When a page gives anyone the ability to edit, and doesn't provide a source, then it is not reputable.

Not to mention it's illegal to use real human remains without the consent of the next of kin, and is extremely unlikely that they managed to get consent to not just use, but dig up graves in the first place.
User avatar #73 to #22 - brigettasandra (11/09/2013) [-]
I don't know about the ability to edit. Anyone can do it then; but a peer reviewed report might be a different story.
User avatar #39 - guywithafork (11/09/2013) [-]
Actually, the whole movie was unscripted.
Some guy was walking by and he caught it on his GoPro.
