?????? You can't compare lyrics of two different genre songs, as the only support for your argument. Rap is SUPPOSED to be more focused on the lyrics, more technical, more lyric specific.. Pop songs are SUPPOSED to be simple rhyme schemes, a lack of complexity in the way they are positioned, and focus moe on the notes and the sonic aspect to it... The fact Kanye's is still barely above Wrecking Ball on a lyrical technical level, shows how undefined he is as a lyricist. He's not a lyricist.. Since day one, his lyrics have been ******* wack, and simplistic.. with the occasional fantastic verse, that was only fantastic due to the impact of some of his words, and the great production he's known for.

Kanye West is a true artist. I don't give a **** what everybody has to say. He's a genius and everybody is too thick skulled to listen to his music and take it as art. A lot of the stuff he produces has surrealism in it and is ironic. It's just his style.
User avatar #34 to #28 - mutzaki (12/26/2013) [-]
"All them other ****** lame, and you know it now
When a real ***** hold you down, you supposed to drown"

Wow. Such deep satire and social commentary. So much wisdom and artistic creativity. Not at all just arbitrary ******** coming out just for a chance to say the word ****** as soon as possible in the song. And I guess Kim Kardashian being topless throughout the video represents how vulnerable he is in his personal life and is not at all just an obvious typical attempt at sex appeal so that people would actually watch the ******* video.

No, he's not an artist. He's not some deep intellectual mind, and his fans aren't deep and intellectual for listening to his music and pretending that his lyrics contain any value at all. I've heard from friends that "old Kanye" was different and actually wrote good music, but if so, that's long gone.

I don't think you're trying to troll, since you're not in your negative levels, but I hope you are and that I just fell for it.

MBDTF is his best album. Just listen to it, don't try to analyze it in order to antagonize Kanye, because I did that the first 3 or 4 times I listened to it. After that, it became my favorite album for a while.
User avatar #57 to #34 - skatedawg (12/26/2013) [-]
Kanye is arguably one of the best lyricists in Hip-Hop right now or ever. This is not bait. I am serious. His lyrics are very meaningful, and Yeezus was well-orchestrated. If I had to guess, your opinion is based on the "Kanye-hate bandwagon" mentality. I can see why someone wouldn't like his music because not everybody is going to like it, and let's face it. He's cocky, "mainstream," and married to a Kardashian. Many people will choose to force themselves to not like the music only because they don't like the artist as a person, even if the lyrical content and music corresponds to who said artist actually is and how he/she feels.
#65 to #57 - brutallyhonest (12/26/2013) [-]
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I'm sorry, no. No. No. Best lyricists in Hip Hop, EVER?

Get the **** out with that ignorant **** . I dislike Kanye, but I accept he's one of the most CREATIVE artists.. not just experimentally, but he drives himself to think outside the box and create things, which is respectable as an artist. Lyricist? No. You're ******* wrong as **** , not even opinionated, you're wrong. Lyrically, he's never been better than average.. the "his lyrics r meaningful" argument doesn't work here, at all..

"I wanna **** you hard on the sink.. and after, give you somethin' to drink!!!!" Wow, you're right.. best lyricist in Hip Hop history, GOAT ... No. Let me show you a lyricist.
"I bomb atomically, Socrates' philosophies
and hypothesis can't define how I be droppin these
mockeries, lyrically perform armed robbery
Flee with the lottery, possibly they spotted me
Battle-scarred shogun, explosion when my pen hits
tremendous, ultra-violet shine blind forensics
I inspect you, through the future see millenium
Killa B's sold fifty gold sixty platinum"
-Inspectah Deck, Triumph

"Through the lights cameras and action, glamour glitters and gold
I unfold the scroll, plant seeds to stampede the globe
When I'm deceased, by then the beast arise like yeast
To conquer peace leaving savages to roam in the streets
Live on the run, police paying me to give in my gun
Trick my Wisdom, with the system that imprisoned my son"
-Nas

Kanye West isn't a lyricist. Avoiding the fact he's practically a toddler in a big boy's body, he's a fantastic producer, and a very creative mind that I do believe to be a good inspiration to more upcoming emcees. People should explore their creativity and imagination.. but lyrically.. on BOTH, a technical, and meaningful level, Kanye has never been above average. Simple rhyme schemes, the same old patterns, a lack of internal rhymes, only the occasional multi, mosaics.. nothing.. He's never been defined in that skill-department.
#73 to #65 - suddaflugan (12/26/2013) [-]
"She flew in like calm breeze
Tall brown skin her weave like palm trees
I went coconuts
Dipped my Dunkin' between your Donut
Don't want it if it ain't no slut, bitch!" - Wu tang clan, Dog ****

"Penitentiary chances, the devil dances
and eventually answers to the call of Autumn"
"Is hip hop just a euphemism for a new religion
the soul music for the slaves that the youth is missing
this is more than just my road to redemption
Malcolm West had the whole nation standing at attention
as long as I'm in Polo's smilin they think they got me
but they would try to crack me if they ever see a black me" -Kanye West, Gorgeous

Nitpicking can work both ways, and anyways Kanye has explained that the Bound 2 video was supposed to look as fake as possible and it is way different from the rest of the album, and he is showing us that he can still do fun and upbeat tunes, but chose to take a different direction, that's why you can't judge an artist based on one song.
#84 to #73 - brutallyhonest (12/26/2013) [-]
I agree with you that I went a little one-sided.. but the Bound 2 VIDEO looking fake on purpose, (which I already knew) has nothing to do with the actual verses, and what they are saying.. That Kanye verse is one of his best verses, IMO.. but that is what everyone pulls up when you're discussing lyrical talent. Looking at it from a technical perspective, it's pretty good, but obviously the highlight of it, is what he's actually saying.. Kanye has these moments sometimes, where he truly shines. Where he expresses himself so greatly.. New Slaves, Blood on the Leaves, two songs on Yeezus I think he shows that.. but the thing is, he tends to cloud it with almost trap-like beats, over experimentalized synths and robotic sounds, making it more of a club track, almost.. Which is why I think he picks up certain fans that lack the ability and intelligence to actually listen to the lyrics..

Quick personal opinion, I really dislike his delivery and flow sometimes.

STUNTINGGGGGGGG LIKE GOOD WILL HUNTINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

Anyways, I think he's a great artist. He pushes for creativity, change, new sounds, and exploring such things deeply. What I said before was just in-response to the fact someone can be as ignorant to call him one of the greatest lyricists in Hip Hop history... I think that's ridiculous.
#87 to #84 - suddaflugan (12/26/2013) [-]
I get what you are saying except for the part in which Yeezus attracts a dumb audience, he could have easily made a pop album but instead made a much less accessible album. It also annoys me when people say he is a bad lyricist for writing "non raps" but when eminem does it he is a genius.
#89 to #87 - brutallyhonest (12/26/2013) [-]
Some people just enjoy pop music, pop albums.. that doesn't automatically make them less intelligent, but yes, most of the time, Hip Hop fans -tend- to be a little more intelligent on certain aspects of things.. being that it's a culture of speaking your mind, knowledge, and learning, etc, rather than pop songs and club music. But what Kanye did in Yeezus, it did attract a dumb audience. I go to school, to all the kids bumpin' Black Skinhead on their beats, reciting his lyrics, whatever.. I get in a conversation with them. They ask,
"Who's your favorite rappers?"
"Nas, DOOM, Em, you know, a bunch.."
"HAS EMINEM WON 12 OSCARS? DOES NAS HAVE A STUDIO IN PARIS?"

I'm not trying to say anything, like my opinion is better, more intelligent, whatever.. It's odd, though. When you look at his lyrics, Kanye West is pushing forward to enlighten the people, of what it's like to be in his position; hence him referencing himself, and all of us, as "slaves". On paper, what he's saying could be so good for us to know, to have an inside view of what it's like to be trapped by such fame and success.. But when in-comes the trap-like beats, the pumped up songs, the auto-tune, the robotic **** .. a horde of ignorance engulfed fans come in, bumping Black Skinhead, jumping around, spreading more ignorance, due to their mis-interpretation of his lyrics, forming it to be more of a racial standpoint, etc.. Obviously this isn't his entire audience, if it was, that'd be crazy. But with what he's doing now, and what I guess he's always done, his words are self-clouded with his attitude and musical choices, hell, along with his real-life choices, (blowing up on Sway, for example.)

I guess someone had to bring out the old Wu-Tang and Nas raps, but what's next? Eric B. and Rakim? Triumph was like only the 26th or 27th Wu song I had ever heard. I respect your opinion regardless. It just seems pretty nit-picky like suddaflugan said. You compared two of the most memorable Hip-Hop verses ever with a not so prominent Kanye line. "The I want to **** you hard on the sink" line is one of my favorites. I especially like the double-meaning of "give you something to drink." It was pretty clever. I honestly hated Yeezus until I listened to it again and made sure I understood as much as should be understood by what he was talking about. Anyway...
"My momma was raised in the era when
Clean water was only served to the fairer skin
Doing clothes you would have thought I had help
But they wasn't satisfied unless I picked the cotton myself
You see it's broke ***** racism
That's that "Don't touch anything in the store"
And it's rich ***** racism
That's that "Come in, please buy more"
"What you want, a Bentley? Fur coat? A diamond chain?
All you blacks want all the same things"
Used to only be ****** , now everybody playing
Spending everything on Alexander Wang
New Slaves"

A large vocab. doesn't automatically make one an ill lyricist. The lyrics must be coherent and original. Why do you Eminem's "Infinite" got negative reception from big-time reviewers and listeners alike? How much rap have you listened to or music period? As far as rap goes new school is taking over.

"something to drink"

like water and cum

wowwwwwwww

Just because it's a double-meaner doesn't make it good.. Infact, I have an example of a pretty decent double-meaner.

This is Righteous Minds by Joey.

"I never knew the world could be this cold
Only time a ***** died he was playing a role
But now the ****** get their souls stole so often
They only did is offer gimits is awake in their coffin"

Get it? "Souls stole so often" can also be "Soles stole" as in a sneaker's sole.

As far as the nit-picker thing, I already spoke about that in response to sudda, and acknowledged what I did there, reflecting on it afterwards to give a more full description of what I personally believe Kanye to be, right now.. incase you didn't catch that.

Or, you know, it's his opinion and he believes it because it's his opinion.
Don't be "that guy". You know, the guy that automatically assumes everyone who disagrees with their opinion doesn't "really" disagree, they're "just on bandwagon" or "they're doing it because other people are doing it."
That's a more annoying and useless argument than "YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS!1!"

Kanye is **** . I used to like his music a few years ago, but now it's complete garbage. His lyrics mean nothing, there's no use being in denial over that. Almost every fan is going to try to justify their fandom, and Kanye West is no exception. He give two ***** about the music, he's just in it for the money; and now his music is **** .

You really can't say his lyrics are deep. You can't. I know TONS of Hip-Hop artists that make MUCH better songs with lyrics that really stick to you. And I don't even listen to Hip-Hop.

"Damn your lips very soft
As I turn my Blackberry off
And I turn your bath water on
And you turn off your iPhone"

If you actually think these lyrics are good then you have absolutely no taste in music. And I literally looked up "Kanye West lyrics" on Google and picked a random song, and these are the first few lines from it.

Did you really say he's the best lyricist in Hip-Hop? Because that's absolute ******** . He's not even close to being a decent lyricist. His music might sound good to some people not many, but his lyrics are complete and utter **** .

Yes, Kanye is arguably ONE OF the best.
Examples:
1.For my theme song (Reference to the "Power" line in four words; Reference to the first song's interlude while connecting it to a superhero persona)
My leather black jeans on (He's known for wearing leather black pants very often; Also, "my leather black genes on)
My by-any-means on (Reference to the famous Malcolm X quote and Jay-Z's line in "PSA"; fits with the racism and black militia theme of the album)
Pardon, I'm getting my scream on (showcases rock/punk influences; he literally screams in the song; Reference to "Scream" by Michael and Janet Jackson since they wore black leather pants for the music video and the scream in the intro of their song are identical to those heard throughout all of Yeezus)... Black Skinhead
2.I am a god... (Reference to Psalm 82:6 in the Holy Bible which is pretty much the theme of this song; In that Bible verse it says "Ye are gods..." Kanye is frequently called Ye; He's saying everyone has the potential to be a god.)
I just talked to Jesus (He just prayed)
He said, "What up, Yeezus?" (He's so close with Jesus, that they can speak to each other informally)
   I said, " **** I'm chilling ('')
Trying to stack these millions" (Reference to the Tower of Babel parable in Genesis 11 of the Bible; All people of Earth spoke one language and worked on "stacking millions" of layers of blocks; Today money is our universal language, and Kanye is stacking millions of that since the majority of us value money as our own tower to Heaven.)... I Am a God
3.So I'mma need a little more time now
Cause I ain't got the money on me right now
And I thought you could wait
Yeah, I thought you could wait
(Nothing too special right? Well, I think so. He IS talking to/about his dead mother and a girl he once loved about two entirely different things at the same time. This connects with the whole theme of the song being love)... Blood on the Leaves
I appreciate the effort you put into that, but the last example was bad. As I said, fans tend to take everything on a much deeper level. All he did is talk about his mother, with some half-assed lyrics. That doesn't make him a good lyricist. Also, on the second example, you sort of took everything to a deeper level than was intended. Kanye West didn't say "Whart up, Yeezus" because he was close to Jesus, he did it because it fits better in Hip-Hop and, I mean, anyone would put that in their lyrics if it was a Hip-Hop song; it's nothing special. And for that first example, that whole song was literally full of references. It's easy to look up something that everyone knows about then include it in your song, and in the first line, he never even meant to say "genes." You put that in yourself. But I'll admit that song was sort of clever, but only in the first few lines.

I'll just say that I have no reason to make up something for or bulk up any artist. Music is about how the audience interprets it too though I didn't include my interpretation at all in my explanation. I'm an artist myself and far from a huge Kanye fan. Very far. My favorite rapper is Schoolboy Q. One thing I know for sure is that 808s & Heartbreak sucked donkey dick except for "Heartless." Skip to 11:57 in the video.

I can just as easily argue that you're on a love Kanye bandwagon because finding meaning in ******** makes you seem really mature and intelligent.

But, frankly, being one of the better lyricists in hip-hop doesn't really say anything, as hip-hop is also the biggest genre of pure ******** (not saying all of it is.). I guess this is just my opinion, but I don't think rhyming " **** " with..." **** " and "bitch" and only talking about wanting to **** on a sink and this: "Hey, you remember where we first met? Okay, I don't remember where we first met. But hey, admitting is the first step. And hey, you know ain't nobody perfect." is just hilarious.
