Unfortunately Fallout does not have the level of modders that Skyrim does, so this is the best I could do.

Except, y'know, the PC version of Fallout 4 will be moddable too? I mean, it might take a few months...or weeks...for the mods to come out after release, but I sincerely doubt Bethesda wouldn't make their next entry non-mod-friendly.
User avatar #4 to #3 - skiskate (05/02/2014) [-]
Well obviously, I'm just saying that the initial release of fallout 4 probably will not look that fantastic.
#5 to #4 - Shmooglavoue (05/02/2014) [-]
Perhaps, but I really don't understand why it would be "depressing" when you know it wouldn't take very long for photorealstic mods to come out anyways.

It's not like they can make it look that good out of the box, otherwise only a pitiful number of consumer PC's would be able to play it, let alone consoles. That's why these mods exist.
User avatar #8 to #5 - skiskate (05/02/2014) [-]
True. My point is that we have the technology we just can't deliver it to everybody.
User avatar #28 to #8 - deerdevil (05/02/2014) [-]
Because everybody doesn't own top of the line computers. If they did release it at this level than only a small number of people would really be able to play it like this.

Okay I know this is completely irrelevant to the topic but I would like to borrow some of your precious time to talk about your gif.

You see the problem with cycling is that it is really boring to watch and after the not so recent doping affair coming from Lance himself, the sport has become a joke. So I would like to propose a suggestion.
How about we take all the people that want to take part in tour de france and tell them to ride these small bicycles throught the whole race. The person that manages to get the furthest in the race (because lets face it, riding this little **** for that long is close to impossible) or manages to finish the race the fastest, gets a medal and a nice cheque to go with the medal.
How does that sound?

I switched to console after I my computer got too old for newer games, tucking heating issues... but yeah, I miss it, but I enjoy games more not having to deal with optimising graphics or setting up elaborate cooling systems.
User avatar #126 to #50 - satansferret (05/02/2014) [-]
when you say elaborate cooling systems, do you mean having a box fan underneath yours?
User avatar #132 to #126 - sursum (05/02/2014) [-]
I meant having a annoying cooling pad, then having to ideally round up a separate fan and open windows, god help me if it was summer.
User avatar #157 to #132 - satansferret (05/02/2014) [-]
I'd recommend using a box fan under it. much better airflow and cooling potential than any of the cooling pads (considering that unless you spend 60+ on one it'll most likely just trap the heat in with minimal cooling potential.) It may sounds ghetto, but it works and is much cheaper/effective.

Of course it won't. Between creating the entirety of the game as well as ensuring it can run on every platform the graphics are going to take a huge hit. But there will be mods for Fallout IV, and chances are it will look even better than this.

When Fallout NV came out it looked worse than Fallout 3 modded
Then, magically, people modded NV and presto change-o it looked better

I wonder if the same thing will happen with Fallout 4. Nah, that'd be crazy.
User avatar #288 to #121 - timoyr (05/02/2014) [-]
Yeah but they came to the same gen consoles, you have to remember that they couldn't make the games too pretty or it would only run in PC and now that consoles are getting better hardware they can make the games look much better

in my understanding they're just brainstorming ideas for FO4 right now, so it could even skip this gen

Disregard "just download mod manager", it's very unhelpful.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6MxLBcSgkc

This video was incredibly helpful for me, watch it. Download a program called FNVedit, it will show you the order mods get loaded in, and the vast majority of mod conflicts.

Whenever people ask how to mod you'll just get someone saying download nexus mod manager and use that, but this isn't always an option.

For example the mod 4GB new vegas (COMPLETELY REQUIRED) CANNOT be installed like this, so don't try.

It also doesn't help at all with load order, which is why you watch the above video.

Most mods contain install advice (ALWAYS READ THIS), but unless otherwise specified all mods go into the data folder of new vegas. Always read everything on the mod page regardless.

If you find something that doesn't work with the above instructions, you will almost always find a video on youtube that will tell you how to do it.

If you don't know what to use first watch (skim through) the linked youtubers video series (very useful), then just go through the Nexus most endorsed files, all the way up to the 500th.

The only really required mods for modding are New vegas anti crash, new vegas stutter remover (look up a video on how to alter the FPS cap, the linked youtuber has one), 4GB new vegas and new vegas scrip extender.

You will need all of these for the vast majority of systems if you are using a large amount of mods.
User avatar #190 to #109 - skiskate (05/02/2014) [-]
What? Nexus mod manager is fantastic. All other forms of installation are blind and once files have been installed they can not be uninstalled unless manually deleted from the Data/meshes/textures folders. Saves so much time and energy especially for enabling and disabling .esp files without deleting them.
User avatar #418 to #190 - freebrainsforall (05/03/2014) [-]
And don't even get me started on things like fake fullscreen mode or enb's, you need to do ******* research to run those if you have the slightest problem.
User avatar #417 to #190 - freebrainsforall (05/03/2014) [-]
I'm not knocking nexus mod manager (which is incredibly useful), but a large number of mods CANNOT be installed using the very convenient "download with manager" feature.

4GB for instance can't be, and it's beyond required if you want to run any major texture mods. I spent some time wondering why my game kept crashing because I hadn't installed it correctly, because everyone kept telling me to "just use mod manager".

New vegas script extender can't be either and the same problem applies, you can't run most major mods without it.

Same goes for Stutter Remover when you're using most systems. You're gonna need it, and you're gonna need to alter the FPS cap unless you want to be stuck at 30.

You can use the "extract file" feature of mod manager for some of these, but that doesn't always work.

It's extremely limited advice to tell someone to "just use manager" when they want to get into modding, it gives them nothing about load order, or mod conflicts, and is generally helpful for around 15 minutes until they run into problems.

You never ever install a mod without reading the mod page and possible mod conflicts, and that's what you're practically encouraging the guy to do.

If there was a paradise world were you could always click "download with manager" and be done with it it would be fine advise but it isn't. Not to mention the aforementioned problems with load order and mod compatibility. I'm trying to give the guy a complete picture of what goes into modding a game instead of sugarcoating it.

It's really easy.

1. First download the nexus mod manager:
[url deleted]
2. Find a mod you want
3. Click the Download with manager button.
4. Enable the mod.
5. Run the game.

ENB's (graphical/lighting mods) are harder, I would recommend a tutorial:
