The date is April sst 1945, the Allied Fleet under the United States have invaded
Okinawa. The Imperial Japanese Navy is all but spent, in June and October last year
they suffered two disastrous defeats, the Battle of the Philippine Sea and Lette Gulf; in
total losing four Carriers, three , and
screens, but perhaps more importantly 90% of its entire .
The hastily attempt to defend Okinawa, the Army gathering
just under thousands troops, of which were concretes.
The Airforce (from the Army and Coastal Defenses) totalling over ; yet
the Navy remain silent, its few operational ships becoming derelict in ports, unable to
repair or fuel raiding sorties. The Admiralty resigned to sitting this out for a more
favourable engagement never considered using their prize vessel - The Yamato. Until
Emperor Showa asked his staff "But what about the Navy? What are they doing to assist
in defending Okinawa? Have we no more ships?". The Navy , pressured by
the implied shame come up with a suicide mission.
They will deploy the Yamato.
The Yamato sails from Takayama, Yamaguchi with its small squadron of escorts.
