When exactly did the "he was a good friend" part come up in the movies? In the first movie, Anakin's like 6. In 2 and 3, he constantly bitches about/fights with Obi-wan. It's probably expounded upon more in the Clone Wars series and other **** , but they never really seemed like friends.

Obi-Wan tells Luke that he and Anakin were good friends.

He also tells Anakin that he loved him like a brother at some point (I think when they're fighting, it's been awhile since I've watched the prequels.) I'm pretty sure he also tells Yoda that he thinks of Anakin as a good friend, if not a brother.

He says it quite a few times.

Or were you trying to say when did it seem like they were good friends? If so I dunno know. They mostly did master/padawan **** in the movies, but I guess fighting along side somebody you're bound to build a bond.

Before Obi Wan leaves to duel General Grievous theres a nice scene where Obi wan tells Anakin how proud he is over him.
User avatar #69 to #37 - durkadurka (01/12/2016) [-]
That's where the prequels **** up. They just establish the relationship by having them say "we are good friends." "Yes we are good friends".

It's never really shown and doesn't come off as genuine.
#73 to #69 - anon (01/12/2016) [-]
really though? like that one dude said anni was like 6 in episode 1 and then like 16-17 in episode two, obi wan was his master the entire time, 10 years + that we DIDNT see, there is a lot of time for a friendship to grow over time like that
User avatar #74 to #73 - durkadurka (01/12/2016) [-]
That's my entire point. We don't see it. You can't weave a genuine relationship without showing the important parts of it.
User avatar #41 to #37 - sgtmajjohnson (01/12/2016) [-]
Yeah. he says it a bunch, but they never get along for one second. A well, it's just another dumb thing from the prequels. We already have clairvoyant Padme, who somehow knew exactly where Anakin and Obi-Wan were fighting Dooku. We have awful CGI, which includes a door that Anakin's head just phases right through.
User avatar #42 to #41 - imashitbricks (01/12/2016) [-]
Yeah, we only see **** as it starts to fall apart, but they mention the other things that they've done once or twice in the prequels. We just didn't get see the time between 6 year old Anakin - Full grown Anakin. That's a lot of time for them to spend together that we didn't get to see.
User avatar #53 to #42 - bigmanfifty (01/12/2016) [-]
Just bad writing.

You can't just SAY two characters are good friends.... you have to show it.
#83 to #53 - anon (01/12/2016) [-]
What about the original trilogy
So other than going to save Luke on Hoth, how did was Han shown to be Luke's friend. Most of what you see is Han seeing Luke as a love rival for Leia.
Even Han and Chewie seem to be coworkers at most.
User avatar #44 to #42 - sgtmajjohnson (01/12/2016) [-]
I get that. It just seems like the prequels could've benefitted from a less bloated narrative.
#50 to #41 - flubbels (01/12/2016) [-]
in my memory there is actually only one scene where they actually seem like friends and thats when obi is telling anakin that "this is his day with the politicians" and is just generally havin a bit of banter with him.
User avatar #63 to #41 - angelious ONLINE (01/12/2016) [-]
you mean outside of: anakin nearly botching up a mission twice just to save obi wan during ep 3.

them broing up before obi leaves for grieveous hunt.

anakin saving obi wan 9 times during the time skip.

most of the **** that happened in clone wars.
User avatar #86 to #63 - sgtmajjohnson (01/12/2016) [-]
It sounds like half of that doesn't appear in the movies, which is my point. Two instances over 3 movies doesn't really establish much, especially considering we have 10 times as many instances of them fighting, and half as many instances of one of them chopping the other's limbs off and leaving him to die.
User avatar #87 to #86 - angelious ONLINE (01/12/2016) [-]
Most of the **** is the only thing that didnt appear in the movies. the 9 times saving was mentioned in the movies. the two others happened in the movies.

also the whole saga was about anakins downfall to the dark side. so yeah ofcourse there would be fighting happening. and most of the in fighting happened in episode 3.

Well in AotC the reason is because of Anakins nightmares of his mother and then the death of his mother, theres still some nice scenes in 2 like in the elevator, the conversation in Padmes apartment where they discuss Anakins nightmares, the speeder chase and bar entrance, also the heated discussion aboard the republic gunship.

In the beginning of episode 3 they feel like good friends, but then Anakin starts having similar nightmares with Padme instead of his mother which makes him worried for her safety. Theres also a really nice scene before Obi Wan leaves to Utapau where Anakin how proud he is over him. And yes, its expanded in the clone wars series
User avatar #81 to #29 - guardianatreyu ONLINE (01/12/2016) [-]
Clone Wars series. Honestly just watch that and pretend the prequels don't exist.
User avatar #76 to #29 - sphincterface (01/12/2016) [-]
I mean, Padawans and their Masters almost always end up having a very close bond. Anakin and Obi-Wan were the closest thing they either had to a family so despite their frustration and arguments with each other, they did care for each other very much. Keep in mind that when Anakin was ordered to kill all the Jedi, fighting Obi was his very last choice, he wanted him to join the Dark Side with him.

Also, in the Clone Wars series and in the books you see a lot more friendly interaction with each other, where they actually act as friends.
User avatar #72 to #29 - Deavas (01/12/2016) [-]
He was 9 and also this is why people hate the prequels, because in ep2 they were basically like, don't worry guys they're totally friends
#65 to #29 - anon (01/12/2016) [-]
They spent around 10 years in each others company, and went as far as risking their lives saving the other, i think friendship is kinda implied

you should watch both clone war series. both the 2d and 3d. and maybe read some of the books, although theyre now noncannon..but still theyre good for stories on this matter.

That always annoyed me about the franchise: they try to create some moral dilemma, but one side is called the dark side and the other side is called the light. One side has names named Ben and Luke and the other side has names like Sideous, Bane, Plagueis, and Tyranus. One side slaughters children and blows up planets, the other side doesn't do that. It's not that hard to see who the good guys are.

That version was OK. I'm definitely not as buttmad over it as a ton of Batman fanboys, and I'm definitely a Batman fanboy. I just wish they hadn't crudely copy-pasted Bane's original origin onto Talia al-Ghul (born in prison, had a violent inmate as his protector, etc.) Also, the voice was a little silly. All told, I think Tom Hardy did a fine job with it, especially considering the pressure on him after Ledger's Joker set the bar in the Stratosphere.
User avatar #47 to #43 - brothergrimm (01/12/2016) [-]
I liked the character for his personality. I separate characters in a certain movie series from any previous expectation that may have been present and judge them in a standalone sense. And Bane is my goddamn hero in many ways
#32 to #30 - brothergrimm (01/12/2016) [-]
Darth Bane. A true badass of a Sith Lord and the creator of the Rule of Two that stood in place until Vader ended it rather effectively.
#45 to #25 - anon (01/12/2016) [-]
to be fair the their "darth" names are not thier real names but thats as far as i can defend that point

#54 to #46 - anon (01/12/2016) [-]
as stated by the other anon pretty sure their darth names are given to them by their masters, then again its been awhile since i have read up[ on any of them so yeah.

but on another note people like in the lost tribe of sith of kesh (of course now non canon) just have names, i cant recall any of the lost tribe having darth names they were just named like gavar khai and Grand Lord Korsin.(if you have not read them i highly recomend the fate of the jedi series, its pretty ******* awesome)
#48 to #46 - anon (01/12/2016) [-]
It was more about how Anakin thought he was above it and was all "nah you see i'm not the badguy it's called the dark but i'm gonna use it for good you see i'm a genius". He didn't think he was turning to the dark side untill the end, he just got tricked into thinking the jedi in particular were doodoo heads.

As far as the names, I think the names are given by the sith lord to the aprentice.

Anakin killed a bunch of younglings, and aided in the death of Mace Windu. The Clone Troopers killed almost all of the Jedi, and the Imperial Inquisitors killed the remaining ones (Excluding Yoda and Obi-Wan). Technically, Anakin didn't kill a single Jedi. Darth Vader, however, has killed Jedi before.
