Just get the mod that delays the Rebel Fleet's pursuit for 100,000 turns. It gives you time to explore the systems, upgrade into a powerhouse, and then still get brutally killed with little to no warning. Love this game.

Are you talking about Infinite Space? I just downloaded it, makes the game surprisingly fun.

******* love FTL.
The games knows what you want, holds it right in front of you, teasing you. It lets you get close, lets victory come slowly into your grasp, before Ripping you apart and blowing you out the airlock faster than a fridge aboard the Bebop

FJ compresses the **** out of Gifs and for some reason even the Jpg was animated so I made it into a PNG for you.

Really? Most of them end up full sized that I've seen.
Then again, that's a bit larger than most gifs. Pic unrelated.

More so that when FJ compresses the Gif it does it in a way that makes it horrible, like so.

That's how a roguelike is. Cruel, unforgiving, most of the time you actually have no chance of success.
User avatar #3 to #2 - ayumu (07/02/2014) [-]
That's what the rouguelike tag is? Unforgiving and difficult? Could never figure that out
#4 to #3 - anon (07/02/2014) [-]
"Roguelike is a sub-genre of role-playing video games, characterized by procedural level generation, tile-based graphics and permanent death, and typically based on a high fantasy narrative setting. Roguelikes descend from the 1980 game Rogue, particularly mirroring Rogue's character- or sprite-based graphics, turn-based gameplay that gives the player the time to plan each move, and high fantasy setting."

So no the correct word could be something like Roguelite or something like that

Most rougelikes are just a thousand rng features stacked on top of eachother. Playing through one is like trying to flip a coin and get heads 50 times in a row: most of the time you get tails halfway through and die.

***** that's nothing
In nebula gas, your ship can get invaded by some bounty hunters, and you'll be shot at by their ship

Power down engines and medbay then ion their shilds follwed by a beam to their shield room? Or does beam not go through 2 shields?
User avatar #56 to #40 - chasboh (07/03/2014) [-]
the beam can only hit through 1 layer of shields, I didn't have enough weapon power slots to activate the ion blast II and the halberd beam at the same time, and I have no fuel to jump away. There was literally no way to defeat this ship, I just had to wait for my inevitable death.
#49 to #40 - anon (07/03/2014) [-]
power down med bay and 1 layer of shields and reactivate the halberd beam. easy fix!
User avatar #51 to #49 - broswagonist (07/03/2014) [-]
Beam can't get through 3 shield bubbles

MFW I manage to get 2 burst mk II and 2 heavy lasers. And a crew teleporter with reconstructive teleporter.

Seriously though. That game can be tricky
#30 to #29 - donated ONLINE (07/03/2014) [-]
The game is strange. Its easy for some. Hard for others.
Personnally its not hard if you know what your doing... Decent defence drone. Loads and Loads of missles. and stealth. Is really all you need for the final boss. Target his weapons in whatever order you choose. Then its a matter of surviving drone fest on stage 2.
User avatar #34 to #30 - jacoban (07/03/2014) [-]
Its easy once you know how to utilize your advanced ****
I died like 10 times in a row back in the original version until I got the hang of it.
defence drones II are pretty common, any combat drone (not laser), get hacking, a laser weapon (burst laser II works best), and a fkin teleporter.
its useful to activate cloak here, not necesarry if you got dem defence drones
*teleport crew to his ion weapon system, they should kill the dude and trash the system asap
*deploy an attack drone, and hacking to his shields
*after drone destroys first shield activate hacking
*until the shields are completely down your laser weapon should be ready, fire away at the shields, and aim your other weapons at his rocket and laser weapon systems.
once you got his weapon system under control, **** the crew up (his beam weapon is nothing if you got dem shields)
repeat similar tactics, but only teleport crew if there are little enemy crew, to clean those rats out. take out the drone system as soon as you want to, but beware it wount stop the drone carnival he sends upon you (cloak is usefull here, if you dont got 4 sields)
passing the energy shield is fkin hard and time-consuming
i use all my weapons and send a drone to his rockets asap, drain that ****
his laser only got 3 shots, 2<shields hold up, and this time take out shields with rockets/ion weapons (tho i dont reccomend using lasers in the final round)

User avatar #36 to #34 - wildberk (07/03/2014) [-]
Pretty decent strategy mate.

However. Defense Drone I is much more useful in terms of energy use and function.
Going for the missile system is much more efficient for damage control. Once missiles are down you can change that spare energy to a boarding drone, reduce the crew to 1. This way the autopilot (And it's ungodly auto repair) doesn't activate. Makes it easy to mop up the ship.
User avatar #37 to #36 - jacoban (07/03/2014) [-]
wow, i never thought about leaving one crew
thats brilliant!
see having defense drone II you can be sure he takes out 1 missile
1 should miss if you invested in engines/have a good pilot
1 hit does i think 2 dmg? or 1 cant remember
and ive noticed if you are using the mantis cruiser with the 4 pads teleporter boarding drones really dont change much
btw what ship do you prefer?
I like the zoltan cruiser, invest in reactor at special events and boom, you got a great shield. or the thing that starts with no shields and a cloak, glaive is pretty overpowered in you got a trusty ion bomb or two
User avatar #38 to #37 - wildberk (07/03/2014) [-]
I prefer anything but the rock cruiser and the engi ship.
missile damage varies depends on difficulty. 1 for easy, 2 for the others.
I am currently in love with the AE ship. But my typical use is the Red tail. I like something to build up. The Zoltan is a GREAT ship though, a little to easy for my tastes. I also greatly enjoy any decent boarding ship and good shields.
User avatar #39 to #38 - jacoban (07/03/2014) [-]
the only reason I even unlocked engi ship layout B is cause the thing got 3 drone...spaces or whatever to call them
you know, you can get 3 drones at the same time
but as I later found out layout B sucks
did you even try to make your own ships back in the original version?
i loved it. i did so much RP
too bad you cant mod the advanced edition yet
User avatar #42 to #39 - wildberk (07/03/2014) [-]
All engi specs suck.

I didn't know about the personal ships. That would have been dope.
User avatar #43 to #42 - jacoban (07/03/2014) [-]
you still can
but only the original version
like, disabling advanced content doesnt work
you gotta ge tthe old version installed (torrent it)
you can do anything, edit any ship in the game (exept rebel flagship, where is it hidden?)
or make your own, draw it,
make rooms, weapon slots, assign systems, choose their level ,choose weapons, drones, arguments, write the desc, choose crew, anything you want

Superluminal Win-64 v2.0.1

funny thing, i can still make ships for advanced edition
problem is, no-one know how to mod them in yet.
its gonna be sooooo awesome to make ships with all the stuff advanced gives us
im gonna make so many overpowered ships
User avatar #44 to #43 - wildberk (07/03/2014) [-]
I want to make a ship with a high learning curve. Overpowered if you know how to play it, but have to learn to switch between offense and defense. I greatly enjoy tricky builds.
User avatar #45 to #44 - jacoban (07/03/2014) [-]
how about like the nisos (or what its called)
the one with the artilery
like, you got no weapons, so you gotta use defence drones, then when the shields are hit, use a combat and fire drone
idk, use your imagination, its really fun
then just get a mod manager, i used silpstream, save your creation as a .ftl file, place that in the mods folder, run the modder and boom, you got your ship
tho you will have to replace one of the ships from the hangar (any ship, either layout)
tho im guessing youd probably replace the engi ships
User avatar #53 to #30 - ninjawizards (07/03/2014) [-]
The missile launcher is always the first weapon you should target. Then honestly it's fine. The drones never really bother me personally but god save your asshole if you don't kill their crew and they tp 5000 people on your ship in the last round.
User avatar #31 to #30 - wildberk (07/03/2014) [-]
My set up was always send a crew into the missle bay of the super boss. Your sheilds would always be strong enough to hand the other weapons other wise. Concentrate fire on the drone station. With the Advanced addition you can use the flak cannons for extra shield punch abilities and mind control made it use full to take out the piloting of the ship. If you got licky you could hack their drones and it would become a slaughter house.

Even during my difficult games I would at least make it to the boss. Also stealth build was always strange to me, is it any good?
#32 to #31 - donated ONLINE (07/03/2014) [-]
I only use boarding when im bored.
Stealth and upgraded engines are invincible. Engines can put you up to over 50% evade atleast. Stealth can increase it to 90. So you rarely get hit. Useful for the boss's bombardments.
Note its been a while since I played FTL. So my estimates will be inaccurate. Best check the wiki for exact stats.
User avatar #33 to #32 - wildberk (07/03/2014) [-]
It still holds true. It can go up to a higher percentage actually. 95% if I recall.
User avatar #35 to #33 - jacoban (07/03/2014) [-]
full maxed engines and experienced pilot + stealth puts your evade at 100
