I will only ever trust Avast and Malbytes.

Here's the best infection stories I have:

>be me
>get laptop
>start to understand more about computer security
>think AVG is the ****
>never comes up with viruses
>maybe I'm just lucky
>parents desktop has a free version of Norton and TrendMicro
>run a virus scan with Norton
>18 hours later
>Virus scan finishes, recommends upgrade to Norton360, else it won't show the results
>end up putting AVG on parent's computer, think it's safe, no viruses ever found with AVG
>fast forward a year
>finally hear about Avast and Malbytes
>Throw that **** on my parents desktop
>Two hours later Malbytes finds 48 different trojans/ malware
>Avast finds 36 different trojans

MFW Norton and AVG are the worst anti-viruses you could ever get.
Btw, the malware on my parents computer started deleting internet protocols before they could be completely removed.
It made it impossible to connect it back to the internet. Plus it was far ****** from that, because it wouldn't allow a re-install of windows.
Wouldn't have happened if Norton and AVG could actually prevent/ detect a ******* virus.

use Linux, so you don't need any antivirus

anyone who uses linux should be smart enough to know how to kill a virus themselves or avoid them entirely.

if you're running absolutely any sort of AV software in the background, you're doing it wrong. the overhead it puts on your system for zero benefit isn't worth it.

maintain a free hosts file (mvps, someonewhocares both provide free comprehensive ones that are updated regularly; I wrote a script that pulls from both and updates mine regularly - redirected to 0, not localhost) and virtually any website that could possibly have anything malicious is blocked from ever resolving, and if some how you do get a trojan, theres very little chance it will be able to phone home with your data, nevermind the ad blocking capabilities that come with it (at much better performance to slow solutions like adblock+)

only download stuff from reputable private trackers (btn, ptp, what for entry level ones) where offenders get lifetime bans, and you're secure against any likely threat of malware with negligible overhead and full idle performance.

I use Panda. It automatically takes care of everything, so I don't have to deal with anything. I like to imagine it literally mauls the viruses' faces off.

The only reason I have an antivirus program on my pc, is because Windows Defender keeps popping up with those annoying reminders that "YOUNEEDANTIVIRUS". I download, a lot. Probably more than most experienced pirates. The only reason you need antivirus is because a lot of people don't research what it is they download, all the extra files, and torrenting is idiotic.
