First rule of woodwork: Varnish when you're done.
2nd Rule: Take care of your tools. They will be your downfall if you make something ****** .

Good attempt, but could have been varnished and polished and possibly even coloured to some extent.

some work dedicated to it. respect.

but i got to say the result is nothing special...
User avatar #58 to #6 - gregoriez (07/30/2014) [-]
the fact that he worked pretty hard on the staff for his little bro's birthday makes it special in my opnion
#60 to #58 - kanedam ONLINE (07/30/2014) [-]
thats what he gets the respect for. i really admire such will and the thought he put into it, and the energy. i bet his bro was happy about it.

but technically the staff isnt that well made... sorry.
User avatar #95 to #60 - wallbuilder (07/31/2014) [-]
I'd say it's well made... but not finished. Could do with some heat etchings, colorisations and weathering.
#64 - esquaredsixteen (07/30/2014) [-]
It's always that time for you, isn't it OP?

But seriously, that's a thoughtful gift and a lot of effort. You seem like a great brother.

Dude, take proper care of your tools so you can use them when you need them.
And why the hell didn't you paint it?

But honest try so here's a wall paper
User avatar #102 to #10 - dancingturnip (07/31/2014) [-]
Do you have any more of these?

#131 to #125 - teFlyingNinja (07/31/2014) [-]
It could have been due to timing or he might not have been the best prop making craftsman, but you gotta give him credit. That is still a pretty nice staff.
User avatar #92 - carefree (07/31/2014) [-]
It could have looked like 10 times better with a dark wood stain
User avatar #139 - cazabrow (07/31/2014) [-]
Now how the hell do you go to all that effort without doing the easiest step and paint/varnish/color the damn thing?
User avatar #140 to #139 - miklthepikl (07/31/2014) [-]
i was thinking the same thing. all it needed to be perfect was a coat of varnish and either black or gold trim for the details.
User avatar #143 - chewiewhatawookie (07/31/2014) [-]
You made the staff the same way EA releases their games.

Seriously though, I don't wanna be ****** up, but it looks unfinished.
User avatar #41 - WhitePimp (07/30/2014) [-]
I remember the staffs being yellow
and varnish would be nice

6/10 for effort but it is amateur work.
User avatar #71 - redstonealchemist (07/30/2014) [-]
now paint and varnish it
#32 - anon (07/30/2014) [-]
OP, i actually want to commend you... that staff actually looks pretty good, especially considering the tools you worked with, and the [fairly obvious] poor quality of the wood [the grain is rough and uneven, and the tones aren't stable. that sucker would've been a female dog to try to carve, even completely with power tools].

I do a lot of wood and stone carving, and have been in contemplation for a couple of the ES's weapons myself. even in game, that staff looks like it'd be a pain for the carver or smith to make, so i think you did very well, and it looks pretty accurate to the staff in question, with or without stain and whatnot else.

I'd've been happy to receive that, and your brother had to have been, too, considering it's a work of art from your own hands, and from his favorite game.

**** sorcerers in dark souls 2, can't hit them and they just spam that magic long sword. then when i hit them and deal half of all their health in one hit, they run away and heal.

[anger intensifies]
#56 - thegrayfox (07/30/2014) [-]
Good effort, but it's pretty much garbage level.

Didn't even put a finish on it.
