Intelligence does not = smarts. I consider myself intelligent because I can understand hard **** and get good grades on exams. I don't, however, consider myself particularly smart (but smart enough not to fall for that ruse).

My parents say I learned to read by myself at the age of 4. Tbh it doesn't make much difference because I don't read much anyway.

It says enough about these kind of people that they need to brag about their 'intelligence'.

If you're intelligent enough, you don't need to tell it. You prove it, everyday, even unintentionally.

Seriously, 150+ books a year? That's a book every two days, is she reading the collected works of Dr. Seuss? Because that doesn't count for anybody literate enough to form sentences of their own. And 50-100 pages of peer reviewed research daily is impossible. You can't just sit down and read those, it takes a lot of time to properly understand and interpret them. You could get 10 pages an hour max if you're actually reading them correctly. Unless she has completely forsaken eating and sleeping in favor of reading, it's just not possible. On the real though, if we could take all the ******** that chick's spewing we'd be able to fertilize the entire USofA.
#6 - anon (04/02/2014) [-]
Well personally I read 100-2000 books a day and am better than everyone else just because I read and guys aren't I smart?
User avatar #57 - johnwoodstock (04/02/2014) [-]
i rarely comment, but i had to open an exception on this one. jokes aside i couldn't help but b mad at how pretentious cunts these people are because they 'read'. it's not about how many books you read, it's about how and why you read.

this one time i was talking with a chick and told her i was reading a book (it happened to be the outsider. i like philosophy and **** , yo) and she told me it was such a tiny book, she read it in an afternoon. i tried to explain to her it's not how long it takes to read it, you got to understand it (some parts of the book i still don't) but she just kept on changing the subject.

yes, i mad. I'm mad at all you cunts who read out of some sense of superiority

"Hunger games, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter are just useless crap and distractions from all the important things that MATTER".

When i was a kid, I was a really bad reader (not dyslexic, but pretty bad). Then one night my mom decided to read the first harry potter book to my and my siblings in bed. She thought she would read a few chapters each night.

After she finished the first night, I wanted her to keep reading. When she said no, i took the book from her, and proceeded to read it myself. After that, I quickly became a rather advanced reader. Just because you don't enjoy something does not give you the right to call it "junk".

I somehow get the feeling that these people are the same who would say that games rot your brain, and that there is nothing to be learned from games.

I would argue against that

Hmm. I am 18 at present moment, I have been a terrible reader all of my life. I knew how to read at age 4 or something, yet I have finished at maximum 4-5 books. I feel like I am beyond help, what do you think?
User avatar #72 to #69 - angelwithashotgun (04/02/2014) [-]
Well, I'm not saying that I am an expert or anything, but maybe you should find a book that really interests you? That was what worked for me

I wish yahoo would do this but related to a political topic. I doubt half those people read the articles, it seems like they just use every post to copy and paste political agendas. The Yahoo comment section is a scary place indeed.

On a relate note, apparently a decent percentage of teenagers don't know that Harry Potter, Winnie the Pooh, or Twilight were actually books.
User avatar #124 to #123 - manofbeardliness (04/02/2014) [-]
I don't know about the Twilight one, virtually every fan girl of that **** said "I liked the book better" even if they didn't read it just to feel smarter. My ex read all three before the movies even came out and I'm pretty sure those were the first books she sat down and read in years.
