Because Spaceship Spreadsheet Manager isn't very fun for a lot of people? Then again, I can't say I'm all that hyped for SC either, since I doubt it will live up to the hype-but then, what could live up to the kind of hype SC has?
Well, with the things they promised, doing whatever you want, hauling cargo, being a pirate, forming alliances it will very quickly turn into Eve. The only thing that might keeps it from being eve is the skill planning that eve has. But that is not the only reason spread sheets are used in the game.
Is this game still not ******* out? Jesus, Star Citizen is a case study on feature creep. And when it does come out, no one will play it because they already backed it and got the cool ships.
You mean the game that's been on a development for about two years? And has a immense attention to detail? Also, there's a ton of ships you can't buy, and have to get in-game.
I backed for a number of ships, but I'm cautious about Star Citizen. Too many people in the community REFUSE to let it be criticized at all for varying reasons and no matter what the criticism is.
I hope the game turns out okay but it won't be anything near what most are expecting.
If it works as well as it's supposed to, I could see it becoming one of my favorite games. I just have a hard time believing that they'll actually be able to deliver all the amazing stuff they've promised. I can still hope, though
Well all of their trailers are gameplay demonstrations, so theoretically it should be all-there. The question is just how effective the procedural generation will be.
I really hope is good, they've been showing a lot of trailers/vids on how the universe/economy/planets works, but almost none of the gameplay itself. And that's what's worrying me, because if the game is'nt fun to play, none of the other things matter.
Yeah, I think I wasn't clear enough, I've seen all of those videos and they make my point. You see, I know the videos they've shown so far are all gameplay footage, which looks great!, but don't show a lot of gameplay mechanics (combat, interacting, movement, ingame UI's etc) wich plays a huge part in making a game a succes.
The most I've seen so far is the exploration video of him (the main developer) killing a couple of robots, some goat and harvesting some minerals, but then again, that doesn't say much in my opinion.
In their recent IGN videos they have been talking about the mechanics and what not. Today they posted a video about how procedural generation works for animals and similar things. In the 18 mi ngameplay vid they did on IGN they show crafting and resource gathering etc.
-It has a small dev team
-It hasnt been in development for that long (As far as major resources go.)
-Its procedurally generated. And while this may seem like a plus, you can only think of so many unique things before it just rehashes it. So after a bit you will run out of things to do or you are going to becoming across the same thing over and over again.
I have no doubt it will be at least an okay game, or **** it may even be a good game at the start. But who cares if it has 100 trillion planets or whatever if after a while it gets boring. Its like borderlands with its gun. I mean sure, there are a **** ton of guns and a **** ton of changes but really for the most part they are the same thing.
All of what you're saying is true, but despite that I really wan't this to be a great game, I think the main concept is amazing and it'll be nice if it works out.
I mean, dont get me wrong. I would love to see this game be a great game, and star citizen. I feel that if these things come out as major successes and they sell well that they will help change the course of gaming.
The Dev team actually created tons of drones to fly around their galaxy and explore it to make sure that it's not just reskinned stuff, however the stuff they've been showing hasn't been very varied.
Well I mean, all a "randomly" generated world is, is just a mixing up a bunch of preset characters. So it will just be rehashed over and over again. No character or anything really. I mean sure, you get to go to these worlds and everything. But it will just be the same rehashed characterists over and over again.
You're right. It's unique selling point is exploration, which will be fun for some hours, and then you will stop caring. I also have the distinct feeling most of the creatures and flora will look vastly similar. It's a typical hype game, games that try and act super-special almost always end up as flukes.
that and there's no point in exploring if there's nothing to DO.
all the game play I've seen has been:
> walk around a flat, boring, generic planet with random colors
> look at random, boring, generic looking animals
> no combat, no collecting, nothing to do or find. just grass and trees and water with randomly colord, generic looking fish.
> oh look, a laser gun... oh wait it's just for mining... MINING... we havent seen that a Brazilian times...
> climb into a generic looking ship.
> fly to a new generic boring planet.
> repeat
Bonus round: Q&A time witht he developer:
will this game have pvp?
no
will this game have crafting or building of any sort?
no
will there be combat?
maybe
will there be a story?
no
will there be dungeons or caves
no
will there be any collectibles?
no
can you customize your character?
no
will there be matchmaking
no
That's what I'm saying. Exploring can be fun for a little while, and then the whole magic is gone because it seems to lack in content. It's the kinda game that could be awesome if it was a survival multiplayer game, but it will probably be the biggest flop of the year when it's released. So much hype for 18 quintillion planets that are randomly generated, as if they needed more than 100, or that the variations will be great enough to justify it. It's Minecraft with some cooler monsters and maps, minus all the stuff that makes Minecraft good.
game comes out, it's boring, nothing to do. nothing interesting to find
ign gives it a 4/10 critics go on and on about why it failed
the community dwindles, till only a few dedicated fans remain
months go by, people forget.
one day, someone stumbles upon something no one ever expected to be in the game:
on a small desert plannet, a player happens uppon a statue.
a carved, non-human face edtched in eroded sandstorm. on it is a ancient flat pannel with what looks like a map, scrawled in a long forgotten ancient tongue.
the internet EXPLODES with new interest at this find.
forums light up overnight with new kindled interest a gamers world wide try to decipher the markings on the statue.
the head developer says he has no idea how the statue ended up in the game, that there were no plans for intelligent alien life of any kind.
data miners comb through he game's core flies searching for a single reference to the statue, but turn up empty handed, again and again.
then, within weeks, another statue is found, deep in the ice of a frozen world on a neighboring arm of the galaxy
same alien face, but the panel has different carvings.
the two panels are scrutinized by every forum goer on line. their markings are compared and contrasted, and overlaid until a single consistency is found, a matching pair of markings believed to designate the center of the known universe. and a pinpointed, uncharted location on the far side.
meanwhile, a group of MIT cryptography majors, who happen to also be big fans of the game have managed to decipher the meaning of ONE single inscription on the tablets.
a single word, or maybe more of a loose concept, but they are all reasonably sure of it's meaning:
i personally, and this is my humble opinion, don't see any interest in no man sky.
making a multiplayer well chance of meeting people is as dim as the game is endless is farfetched to me present no interest
if i wanted not to meet people i will stay irl
I had a little trouble understanding your second line there. You are entitled to have as much or as little interest in the game as you like, but from what I've seen of the game, provided they pull off their plans properly, it will be a fairly impressive technical achievement from an objective viewpoint.
I imagine that it will be something like Journey, except you will be able to write you name on things as their discoverer.
