the MMORPGs do a good job, but I hate monthly subscriptions. I heard great things from bravely default, but haven't played it myself (have no DS, will emulate)

Bravely Default / Second are basically just old school FF games (closest to 3 or 5). I thought they were pretty great even if the story had some shortcomings.

Yeah just feels like a discount fire emblem. I don't really dislike it but if I want to play frie emblem I'll play fire emblem

I have not played a fire emblem game so excuse me if I get this wrong.

But what made tactics great was the amount of customization allowed for characters. Every ability learned was another that can be used for when you change a characters job specialization which allowed for so many combinations and a feeling that you were only getting stronger. I don't know if something like the job system exists in fire emblem but the system is something that I very really see in the scale of final fantasy. Hell its probably why I liked dragons dogma so much Because it felt sort of like how a tactics action org could be.

If I'm understanding this right fire emblem has a somewhat high learning curve which makes it rewarding? Tactics was only as hard as you made it and what made it feel rewarding was creating a well balanced party and roster that could take down enemies in however you saw fit.

What I'm getting at is that tactics was fun in the way skyrim was fun because you saw progression in how over powered you became. That's also where a lot of the attachment to characters came from.

And so I'm wondering how fire emblem did it better? Or was it just not your style?

Just latched onto it first as a child and liked it felt more satisfying then tactics sorry if I can't explain it well I'd probably have the opposite opinion if I played tactics more as a child. Really it just comes down to personal preference and mainly I just made the point to make a joke.
