Pulp fiction is black comedy really.

It has a good balance of comedy and seriousness, moreso than (in my opinion) all other Tarantino works.

If the ship is powered by a nuclear reactor, it would explode. That's kind of how the sun works.

Also, ships typically have oxygen in them so you can breathe and whatnot
#137 to #27 - John Cena (05/05/2014) [-]
Not exactly, nuclear reactors don't explode very spectacularly, they just melt everything around them. That other stuff might explode, but there's certainly no stereotypical nuclear explosion when they melt down.
User avatar #143 to #137 - djequalizee (05/06/2014) [-]
True, but still. It's not like we know what method of nuclear fission/fusion is being used to power said ships. They might be powered by controlled nuclear explosions, for all we know. A nuclear power plant wouldn't explode, no. But maybe they're using nuclear energy in a different way.

The lasers in Star Wars are actually plasma or something like that, so they're not actually lasers.
#11 to #4 - juffs (05/05/2014) [-]
I believe the canon says they're steel rods coated in plasma
User avatar #12 to #11 - thesoulless (05/05/2014) [-]
The star wars wiki says the it's just compressed, high-energy gas, although I don't know if that would be considered canon.
#13 to #12 - juffs (05/05/2014) [-]
That's what plasma is, basically Probably, I'm not a physicist
#98 to #13 - blargchikahonkhonk (05/05/2014) [-]
plasma can be produced by passing an electrical current through a hot compressed gas but plasma is a distinct state of matter so the transition from gas to plasma is more comparable to the transition from solid to liquid than plasma just being a gas. its also the most common state in the universe due to stars composing of plasma
< a diagram of the four states of mater
a plasma is created when the electrons are "ripped" from the atom (not always all of the electrons but with smaller atoms it often is). this leaves the positive nuclei and the electrons floating around in a gas like fashion (think of a atomic diagram of a gas and then replace most of those atoms with electrons and a few nuclei). One way to achieve this is with lasers although it takes a big ass laser the only one i have ever seen is in rutherford appleton laboratorys across the road from ral space . when creating them from lasers you effectively just blast a small piece of metal with the incredibly high powered laser causing it to vaporize and then become a plasma (its certainly one of the more crude methods of creating plasma as its basically just, blast if with a ******* big laser).
"steel rods coated in plasma" if an interesting idea for the projectiles and whilst im almost certainly overthinking it I could imagine that if you where able to charge the steel rod you could potentially contain the plasma as the plasma will attempt to follow a path along the magnetic field lines spinning round them in a helix. you would need to find an expert in plasma to find out anymore im no expert in plasma behavior
User avatar #14 to #13 - thesoulless (05/05/2014) [-]
What I meant is that it doesn't say anything about steel rods
#15 to #14 - juffs (05/05/2014) [-]
Yeah, I have no idea where I saw that, so it may be wrong. Just the first thing that came to mind, and it made sense to me.
User avatar #99 to #14 - blargchikahonkhonk (05/05/2014) [-]
to shoot a plasma you would need to contain it magnetic field would do the job . otherwise the plasma would just expand to fill the container it is in like a gas and as it is in space you would just end up with a plasma cloud that will continue to disperse more and more until you cant even recognize it a lot of space contains plasma like that, that are so spread out we can just consider the area a vacuum for most purposes

To be fair, you can do pretty much anything with the keyboard, without using the mouse. Using the mouse is easier and more intuitive, but you can navigate windows entirely using the keyboard.

An explanation of why the man will not show pain during fights is because of adrenaline. Adrenaline can do amazing things, including lowering the pain. Also, a lot of the time, they do react to it. When they get hit in the head, they get disoriented.

Spacecraft can explode in a fireball. That is very much possible. There's oxygen on the ship, so fire can be there. Most fireballs disappear quickly too, so it's not as unrealistic as it sounds. Also, Rule of Cool.

What they call lasers in movies is often actually plasma bolts being fired, so it makes sense for them to not be going the speed of light. Also, Rule of Cool.

The keyboard one is legit though... you can operate a computer perfectly without a mouse and I do not mean gaming and such, just basic operations like opening your email or somethign

Spaceships can cause a fireball in space, they are filled with oxygen, and thus should something with enough atomic energy needed to cause a combustion reaction be present at the same time as the ship breaks apart through being depressurized, boom, ball of fire as the escaping o2 is burned off as it is siphoned off into space.

If you get shot in a limb, you generally can keep fighting if you at least stop the bleeding. Providing it didn't shred your tendons/muscles. Humans are amazingly resilient. As long as you don't give up, people have been known to get through amazing situations on will alone. There are accounts of people losing limbs in sword fights, continuing to fight until they kill their opponent, then cauterizing their own wounds. HFY!

Also the keyboard one, but some people have covered that.

The eiffel tower one is pretty common, and for one main reason which I learned when I did Media Studies:

In the media industry, most of the time the producers of advertisement and the movies think that the audience are the dumbest of the dumb. They advertise like Hitler did with his propaganda: Aim it at the least intelligent potential members of your audience. What if people can't read or are dyslexic? The eiffel tower is the symbol of France that even little children understand, but it's difficult to choose another scene in France that people will recognise just as well. It's one of the key facts of media: Your audience can and probably will be absolutely ******* retarded, so make it as obvious as possible so that they can't mess up.

#1 There just isn't enough screen time to spare for toilet scenes unless it is relevant to the plot.
#3 Yes, you can continue fighting if the shot isn't fatal and you're not losing too much blood.
#5 You'd be surprised how true that is in real life, my aunt and uncle set their wifi password as their pets' name.
#7 If you hit the gas tank, yes that will happen

You'd need to hit the gas tank with something pretty damn fast for enough friction to cause the explosion.

About the two Star Wars ones,

Ships contain oxygen, and those aren't lasers being shot. They're blasters, which are plasma beams. In Star Wars Battlefront 2, there's examples of laser guns, which travel instantaneously.
User avatar #85 to #54 - huntergriff ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
if you're talking about the chain gun, the clone commander uses in BFII, I think that was actually a slug thrower, which in reality, actually is a normal gun, not a blaster...although I could be wrong...
User avatar #87 to #85 - meganinja ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
I'm not talking about the chain gun. First of all, you can get an upgraded sniper rifle that shoots a laser, which is fairly effective. Also there's a lot of laser turrets you can find. There are some on spaceships, some on vehicles, and on Kasykk, there's a laser turret on the clone side outside of the defensive wall on some stilts or some **** that's a nice laser beam turret. I loved that thing, can hit the vehicles all the way over to the CIS side.

burn, cis scum
User avatar #90 to #87 - huntergriff ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
I...didn't even know you could get an upgraded sniper, i knew about the award rifle and pistol, but not the sniper.

User avatar #86 to #54 - huntergriff ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
scratch that, it was a blaster.
User avatar #103 to #54 - blargchikahonkhonk (05/05/2014) [-]
is there any mention of a physical component to the blasters plasma shot, otherwise that is a bit of a hole just made a post about this above
User avatar #104 to #103 - meganinja ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
I'm not sure what you mean. Plasma is a state of matter, if you determine that physical or not.
User avatar #105 to #104 - blargchikahonkhonk (05/05/2014) [-]
sorry poor terminology on my part i was using physical in the common sense of the word as in something you can touch so a solid or a liquid. what i am saying is that plasma has physical propertys similar to that of a gas. to shoot a plasma you would need to contain it . otherwise the plasma would just expand to fill the container it is in like a gas and as it is in space you would just end up with a plasma cloud that will continue to disperse more and more until you cant even recognize it and would just join the general thin plasma that is in space anyway
User avatar #107 to #105 - meganinja ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
somebody explained it below, I was wrong when I said plasma, apparently they're particle beams or some **** . I just said plasma as a filler because I knew it wasn't a laser.
#55 to #54 - John Cena (05/05/2014) [-]
No one ***** on star wars on May the 5th.
User avatar #63 to #54 - lyiat ONLINE (05/05/2014) [-]
They're actually particle beams, but yes. That is why we can see them and they move slower than the speed of light.
#139 - NatashaReinhart (05/05/2014) [-]
Pretty sure that when John Travolta uses the toilet in Pulp Fiction, it isn't a comedy.
