There is some legitimacy to it. The "Good Man" in the phrase encompasses the sort of individual who has moral and ethical compunctions to violence and a handle on his temper. Oftentimes this stems from a solid grounding on what he stands for and his ability to keep in mind what he has to lose through violent action.

What the phrase is really saying is that putting this individual in a position where they lose those moral and ethical compunctions, where they get to a point where they have nothing to lose, is a really scary thing because you don't know what they could do. A wicked man is at least predictable and despite their track record may have limits on how far they are willing to go. The "Good "Man" pushed to the brink without anything to lose has no such limits anymore, which gives a conviction that a wicked man won't can't really contend with.

There are plenty of examples of Medal of Honor recipients who were your average friendly Joe Schmoe until they got into combat.

Apparently people can't be expressive in writing anymore. Everything has to be pragmatic, concise, and standardized for fear of sounding cringey. Nothing can be sincerely dark or severe for fear of sounding edgy. Nothing can be kind or merciful for fear of marking the speaker as a pussy. Everything is wrong unless we're all shallow, unimaginative, emotionless angry pricks. Love is dead, life is meaningless, such is such, etc. **** this generation.

If youre a fan of dark, spiteful revenge scenarios, its the best. Granted, I only saw the remake.

Warning: Its a bit of an emotional ride. The scene where the jock rapes the dude's fiance had me boiling, which I think was on purpose because it made the climax that much better.

Doctor Who is even worse. It went from interesting stories about random happenings around the universe that just happened to have the Doctor there to a show that can't shut up about how cool the Doctor is. "He was there when (insert major astrological event here) happened." So? Most of these villains could win in a fight against him if they just threw a punch at him. Instead we get all these monsters and villains going "Oh ****. It's the Doctor. Better run."

I blame Steven Moffat for the poor quality of both shows. He gets way to carried away with making things seem more epic than they actually are, and he loses focus of what would make his shows actually good. I'm not saying that removing him completely would fix the quality of these shows, but it'd certainly help.

Personally, I kind of like how over time he goes from just a time traveler who likes to save people to "oh **** it's the ******* doctor". I mean, you'd expect that sort of thing from a guy who's traveled all over the universe, and all... whenever the universe?
Ehh... the point is, after him appearing literally everywhere, in every time period, you'd kind of expect people to start recognizing him, and the little ******** he does.
I mean, if it bothers you, it's your opinion, but I, personally, thoroughly enjoyed the show.

There are writing problems in the show, especially with characters. However, Sherlock not acting optimally is not one of them.
Sherlock is not a normal guy who's IQ got turned up to maximum, he's the autistic guy that can draw all of NYC from memory after a quick look.
Like almost all well written character he has clear drawbacks such as failure to relate, a need to be "clever", arrogance...
I'm not saying Sherlock Holmes is well written or not, but this is his character. He's not Iron Man or Ozymandias.

Episode 1 has some great writing elements I never see elsewhere. The foreshadowing is done well, we're lead through Sherlock's thoughts and given information we need in very short scenes prior. If you analyze the first 15 minutes of the episode you'll be able to determine who the villain is. Still I only realized it slightly before Sherlock, right where the writers wanted me to realize.
A good example of bad writing would be the big villain in Season 3. (Spoilers ahead) He's supposed to be smart, in the way that Sherlock isn't, but he's written horribly for it. As soon as he revealed that there is no contingency for his death I thought "why not just kill him then." And any "smart" character would think the same.

There are many problems with Sherlock, but it's a puzzle adventure show and people keep misdiagnosing it.

You're speaking about serial killers, or if you are indebted/have caused at least an inconvenience to those people.

At that point you don't have any sort of solace in the fact that those people are evil and will say whatever it is they want to. You were dead the moment they got ahold of you.

There is no positive in the scenario. That does not happen in real life.

Ol' Terry was already at the Maxium Level of being interesting.
Even Prachet himself couldn't make Prachet MORE interesting, than he already was; not when no one in the studio, neither audience or interviewer could tell if he was making an uncomfortable joke at his own expense to mess with them, or if he had forgotten he had a degenerative brain disorder; not when he composed Tweets about his death, and told his daughter/fellow author/executor to Tweet them, from his account, before the general public knew he was dead.
Odd duck, troll, genuinly brilliant author with a unique wisdom and humor...whether or not they are to everyone's taste. We are all poorer, now that he is only listed in the Necronumeracon.
