Had to look up that reference, I'd forgotten that movie.

And anyway, I'm in total awe of nurses, gender irrespective. They put up with so much **** - figurative and literal - in their profession, so dealing with both that and stupid cultural bias makes them the best kind of people there are.

I'm actually studying to become somewhat of a male nurse... Just doing it in the Dutch army, still a nurse though. xD

Though I am an American (And seeing as America and the Netherlands are very close allies), I still wish to thank you for your service to both of our countries, my friend.

Pic related, my advice to you.

I feel bad for nurses sometimes. I got sent to the hospital because I had fluid in my lungs I had to stay over night.

>Was the only patient for most of the night
>Would drift in and out of sleep
>Old man gets admitted around midnight
>Just waking up at 4 am, hear weird groaning
>Nurse muffles and a guy moaning
>Nurse says "oh god it won't stop coming out"
>Descendant of chewbacca must have been admitted
>"oh god how could you live like this"
>Putrid smell evacuates towards my bed
>The sounds of mac n cheese mixed with dry heaving sounds from nurse intensifies
>"How could you deal with this, I feel so bad for you"

Guy had bowel problems I didn't really pay attention because of the smell of what really happened.

Welcome to the male nursing brotherhood, my friend. If you work in a hospital, you WILL get every single old, fat chick asking if that nice man can give them their sponge bath. Find a nice way to pawn them off on one of the assistants. Pretending there is a code only works so many times on one person.

male nursing student right here, never had someone ask me to milk them... Must not be experienced enough. Love the support coming from the fj community here in the comments. To the douche saying male nurses just couldn't make it as a doc **** you nursing school is ******* tough especially bachelors programs. Health professionals work as a team a doc diagnoses and prescribes meds the nurse assesses and addresses issues such as pain, comfort, self image, safety, and more. Nurses are people who like people and prefer close contact care that is nurturing in its nature. Doctors are more mechanical, in a good way, and are good at identifying disease. It's a rant I know but I got a passion ok. Not a murse dammit I'm a nurse.

I always assume they failed or simply weren't smart enough to become a doctor.
I mean, who'd rather be a nurse then a doctor?
#20 to #19 - Rascal (05/07/2014) [-]
Nurses.
User avatar #22 to #19 - noblexfenrir (05/07/2014) [-]
There's other factors than simply "choose one or the other". You act as if going the doctor route was exactly the same as the nurse route and the person decided nursing. To become a nurse you can start working with a bachelors, where as to become a doctor in any specialized field you need 4 years in a general field, 4 years getting a medical degree, and then roughly 5 years of residency before you can be certified.

So you basically asked "who'd rather go to school for 4 years for around $40,000 and earn 50-60k with options for advancement or to go back to school, than spend about $200,000 going to school for 8 years then spend 5 years if not a few more doing residency getting paid around 30k a year for 12-16 hour days."

The answer is, alot of people would rather be a nurse than a doctor.
#27 to #22 - Rascal (05/07/2014) [-]
Some nursing related positions actually take a 2 year degree too like registered nurses (www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/registered-nurses.htm).
And very good points. It's ridiculous to think someone choosing to be a nurse rather than a doctor is stupid.

Ah, I was purely thinking of LPN's when I was talking about education. Thanks for showing me that, it enforces the point I made further.

You're either new in your hospital, or chose to go head first into the stereotype early on into med school. Both don't really end well for you if you hold that mindset.

I agree. So many people fail to become a doctor it made nurses.

my mom loves being a nurse because she can spend time getting to know the patients she takes care of
#21 to #19 - Rascal (05/07/2014) [-]
Someone who can't afford the **** ton of cash and time commitment that it takes to become a doctor?
I work at a small college that helps train nurses and many of them are single parents, working minimum wage jobs and still, after working all day, come to school to try and better their lives and help others.
But no yea, let's just assume everyone has unlimited resources and no obligations and anyone who isn't a doctor is just stupid.
User avatar #29 to #19 - emipr (05/07/2014) [-]
I'm in med school and let me tell you, nurses are an extremely important part of the health system and their job is very much different from that a medic do.
Doctors cure diseases, nurses cure people...

There are some nights when us males outnumber the female nurses.
User avatar #4 - theavatar (05/06/2014) [-]
If your a male nurse youll get hired o the spot. My uncle and his wife are both nurses and work for a prison he got hired in a lower spot she did and is getting paid more. plus with how big people are getting they think that men have better upper body strength to lift the more heavy people from bed to bed

My wife is a nurse making 115k a year. Maybe your aunt isn't as smart as your uncle?

No she has a hire degree as well got hired on before him and he is below her at the prison.

I actually find it a terrible shame that men Can't seem to go into nursing without the profiling. I'm sure most guys when they have "male" problems would much prefer having another Guy helping out. I know I much prefer having A female nurse looking after me in hospital being Female.
#23 to #3 - Rascal (05/07/2014) [-]
I'm quite confident I'd always rather have a female doing whatever. They are more soothing. But mostly it's sexual.

Same. Even an old woman compared to any man. When an old woman looks at my giant dick, they'll be astonished no matter what. Some dude looking at my dick? Gay. Go away guy nurse, this dick is not meant to be seen by you.
