Ever get that feeling half-way into a comp, where you just know there'll be that image?

I was not disappointed.

As someone who has had to stare for hours at sand down a microscope for geology, I can tell you that is some kind of magical sand of the gods. Most sand is just brown.
User avatar #99 to #56 - cormy (01/10/2014) [-]
Yeah... I was kind of confused by the above post considering sand is mostly just silica.
#27 - spartyon (01/10/2014) [-]
He wrote an entire book about sand..wut

I'm guessing it was a book of photgraphs
User avatar #94 to #27 - fjusernumberone (01/10/2014) [-]
There have been entire books written about much more mediocre things than sand. At least it has plenty of pretty pictures to show.

There's an old proverb about a man who studies one grain of sand for a lifetime will learn as much as a man who explores for a lifetime.

Everyone. Just so ya'll know. This totally ******* fake. Sand does not look like that. These are images of cut stone and mineral. NOT MAGNIFIED.

Not everything on the internet is true guys.

God damn, this looks like it should be in one of those I Spy books we'd always read at the library when we were kids on school trips.

thia ian't beach sand
User avatar #36 - lolzordz (01/10/2014) [-]
if that's sand magnified, and its all colourful and **** . why is it just brown on the beach?
User avatar #37 to #36 - jalthelas (01/10/2014) [-]
The individual particles are so tiny that our eyes can't distinguish the colors, so we see a shade that's common in the masses of particles of sand, which is a brownish/beige shade.
User avatar #38 to #37 - bgskamikaze (01/10/2014) [-]
so what about like the red and black sand?
User avatar #39 to #38 - jalthelas (01/10/2014) [-]
Well the picture is probably a little bit ******** .

Most of what sand consists of is finely eroded rock.

Black sand is usually from volcanic stone being eroded by the ocean over millions of years, same goes for red rock, probably red clay rock.
User avatar #40 to #39 - jalthelas (01/10/2014) [-]
red sand*
User avatar #41 to #40 - bgskamikaze (01/10/2014) [-]
alright
User avatar #42 to #41 - jalthelas (01/10/2014) [-]
Yeah, moral of the story is to obviously not believe that pictures on the internet are true unless there's clear evidence.
User avatar #43 to #38 - snakefire (01/10/2014) [-]
Thats not beach sand as depicted in the content.

Sand from sand dunes is from rock.
#49 to #36 - John Cena (01/10/2014) [-]
ever tried to mix many colours at the same time? What came out? that's right, brown
