1, 600 pairs of rubber ears and feet
were used.
250 horses were used. 70 of these
were specially trained, including five
miniature horses used for the hobbits.
A lot of the sets were carved out of
polystyrene, to make them look like
wood which had aged over thousands
of years.
Over , 000 of coffee was drunk by
the crew and cast during the 18
months of filming!
Nearly all nine actors of 'The
Fellowship' had a tattoo done of the
word 'Nand in Elvish to mark the close
bonds they built up during 18 months
filming together - though none of them
will allow photos taken of the tattoos!
The whole book is normally more than
1, 000 pages

Also, the Hobbits are all supporters of the Nazi ideology. That's why there are no black or Hispanic Hobbits.

Bilbo to Gandalf in Fellowship of the Ring - "This is the finest weed in all the Shire."

It's the scene where him and Gandalf are blowing smoke rings/ships.

Could be referring to pipe weed.

Indeed. Weed is just a slang term for marijuana.
#170 to #145 - jazco (03/28/2014) [-]
In the books the weed they smoked was similar to tobacco. The movie purposely makes it seem more like marijuana. I guess they think it makes the story more hip.
#25 to #15 - anon (03/26/2014) [-]
But they called it weed, so he's right anyway

Pipeweed is marijuana tho.

Speaking of the horses...
Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) bonded so much with the two horses (named Uraeus and Kenny) that he rode in Lord of the Rings that he purchased them from their owner.

<--- This is Uraeus. He played Aragorn's horse Brego. (Called Roheryn in the book.)

He did the same thing in the movie Hidalgo..

I heard he also purchased one of the horses for a stunt double who couldn't afford to buy it but loved the horse she had worked with.

You are right. He bought Arwen's horse for Liv Tyler's stunt double.

Those are the 8 people that got the tattoo, and Gimli passed on getting a tattoo so he sent his stunt double in his place.

The tattoo on Orlando Bloom(the one in the pic) is indeed Elvish, pertaining to your original comment, if that's what you're wondering.

Is there any black people in lord of the rings? or asian?
User avatar #122 to #106 - ljxjlos (03/26/2014) [-]
Well, Middleeath can be compared to the real world, or at least the european landmass, imo. The parts were the movies/books played were mostly white - Aragorns Race for example, the Numenoreans were described as fair-skinned (same for the elves) - while the eastern and southern folks /eastings, harradrim, etc might or might not have been of coloured origin.

We don´t really know too much about these folks, tho, other than the fact that they could easily have sent way bigger armies towards Gondor and the West if it wasn´t for the work of the two other Istari/Wizards, who, after failing in their attempts to find out where Sauron was hiding, went to the east and sabotaged their war-efforts. How they did this, tho, isn´t known.
User avatar #150 to #122 - xxhadesflamesxx (03/26/2014) [-]
I am pretty sure that the haradrim and umborians whatever you would call a guy from umbar along with the easternlings were either middle eastern or black
but I could be wrong
User avatar #168 to #150 - ljxjlos (03/27/2014) [-]
That was what I was saying, tho, wasn´t it?

"umbarians" are haradrim, imo - Umbar the coastal area, as well as the fortress and the haven all were placed in Harad, if I remember right. But yeah, I always imagined the Easternlings and Haradrim as africa-ish folks, a mix between deeply coloured and middle eastern people. Kinda neat idea, imo, I wish Tolkien had wrote more about these folks and the efforts of the Istari in the East.

Luckily we have the Wheel of Time for high class fantasy with a ******** of human races.
