One thing I forgot to toss in the mix there, if you want, sony has a cheap ass replica of the Oculus Rift, its already out there, so thats cool. And there are tons of gloves and controllers that would work for this ***** . So... yeah. Figured I'd say that. Not gonna bother putting links because I'm tired, and its 5 am. **** you all, sleep tight my little cuntmuffins. Its not like I wanted to g-give you more information or anything... B-baka. Seriously though, if anyone wants more **** like this up, I've got a metric ton (give or take an imperial ton) of ******* stuff I could throw up there. This is 3 things out of maybe 12 that didn't make the cut, let me know.

Heard that the movie is gonna happen?

Joseph Gordon Lewitt has officially been connected with it. And it's focus would be a sort of 'prequel', which some ppl have interpretated as the first 'big' story line.

(tho i had hoped it would be adapted HBO-Game of Thrones-style!)

Its supposed to be based on a new series Gaiman is writing called Sandman The Overture. He is writing it with mind to adaptation.
It will be about how Sandman got so exausted he got caught by Burges in the first storyline.

User avatar #228 to #64 - laseneph ONLINE (12/18/2013) [-]
the only problem I see with the setup from that video is that the oculus rift wire could get tangled around you and also how much weight/push can the omni take before it breaks
User avatar #291 to #228 - dellexe (12/18/2013) [-]
First one is solved with wireless or some system to hold the wire over your head so it doesn't tangle. It looks like the Omni is pretty sturdy, so hopefully unless you weigh a lot that won't be an issue. Something else I thought of that would e pretty cool with this is a gun controller with a piston moving back and forth inside it to simulate the kick of a gun.
User avatar #305 to #291 - Vo Spader (12/18/2013) [-]
another thing would be to make the controller (gun) do the aiming because if you look, he had to move his head carefully to aim, the position of the gun had no effect. also i dont think it showed in the video but you can strafe as well.
User avatar #306 to #305 - dellexe (12/18/2013) [-]
As in the Rift controlling where you're looking with the controller not affecting it, only affecting where on the screen you shoot.
Also, Omni + Oculus Rift + ARAIG + Delta Six would be a pretty awesome system, don't you agree?
User avatar #292 to #291 - laseneph ONLINE (12/18/2013) [-]
ah good, wasn't sure if they were making the oculus rift wireless and I was asking the omni thing cos in the video it looks like it bends around a bit when he's running

Sadly, something like Sword Art Online will only be available once the there has been done more research on the human brain and how the brain processes or recieves information. After we understand the brain we need to figure out a way to directly send and recieve information from the brain and translate that into code for computers. It is either going to take surgery to implant a computer in your head, or it's going to take some extra research to be able to directly send information to your brain via electrodes.
#171 to #12 - wrathlos (12/18/2013) [-]
That would be remarkably dangerous.
User avatar #317 to #171 - edgecutter (12/18/2013) [-]
I recall seeing something on Discovery Channel once that featured some sort of "headgear" that stimulates the brain through the use of electrodes. It improves your ability to learn, it seems. Those who used the headgear to study were able to acquire permanent skills much faster than the ones whom didn't.

It doesn't seem as dangerous as you think.

Unless you refer to the "surgery" part. There has been a similar surgery before, before the start of this millenium. (Don't take it wrong now, with that, I mean it was somewhere in the 80's or 90's.)
I don't remember the name anymore but someone made a small computer that could be surgically connected to his brain and a "controller" if you will that is connected to his wrist. With that he could "communicate" with computers. Meaning he could control a computer with his mind/hand (he merely had to move his fingers to control a computer, not touch a mouse, not touch a keyboard, just general hand motions). So even that is quite feasible and with improvements in medical science every day, the day where humans will have a computer implanted in their heads is closer than you think.
#39 to #12 - angelusprimus (12/17/2013) [-]
Not as much as you'd think, there is some pretty awesome research going on now, check it out on ted talks.
Thing is, it won't be like SAO, where they block your body, it will be more like in that galactica prequel, where you have to learn to control a second body with separate set of feelings.

what i mean to say, isn't it only the one character that can't logout in .hack? or is it everybody. i couldn't get into .hack. the first 3 episodes are just waaay too slow.
User avatar #161 to #160 - nigeltheoutlaw (12/18/2013) [-]
It depends what series you were watching. It's been a while so I couldn't say with absolute certainty, but I think there were a lot of people stuck in there.
User avatar #162 to #161 - brrigg (12/18/2013) [-]
well from what i saw of .hack//sign. it was just the main character that couldn't log out. but in .hack//legends of the somethingorother everybody could log out for like ever and i thought the gimmick was that people where dieing but it wasn't a commonly known thing.
User avatar #164 to #162 - nigeltheoutlaw (12/18/2013) [-]
I'm not sure now, it all kinda blends together after so long.
User avatar #166 to #164 - brrigg (12/18/2013) [-]
i think that's why more people like sao, because right in the first episode they're like "you can't log out; you die, and your dead irl, people try and get you out, your dead irl...oh and your can't use an avatar, you look like you... go" and they basically had to start a new life inside this game and everybody just got used to it. personally i think thats a way better way to do the whole "trapped in vr" thing.
