theres no doubt she can play a depressed maybe even drugged up teenager but i think twilight wanted her to play that role way too differently than she needed to

I've read Twilight. Wanted to see what I was hating on, I haven't watched the film, but if all the "Lol, Kristen Stewart only has one facial expression" posts are true then she did a spot on impersonation of Bella in the book.

Seriously, Bella is... how do I put it?... I've seen reaction pictures with more depth than that character. She is shallow as **** , no personality, there are literally 5-7 guys in the book pining for her and she just doesn't ******* react on it.

In my head-canon Bella was a massive stoner and constantly toked in order to be so mellow and uncaring as she was.

Twilight was a well written book when you take the language into consideration (the amount of detail the author puts into "Edward's perfect face" is unnerving), but the characters are just so ******* flat.
#22 to #15 - bazda (06/23/2014) [-]
Haven't you read that write-up on that site that shall not be named (cream of wheat, I think it's called)? The author did that on purpose, and that is the reason impressionable pre-teens, and lonely, middle-aged women alike get massive lady boners over the series. The author intentionally left Bella blank so that the young girls reading it could just fill in the blank with themselves. That is why the book is so popular amongst lonely women.

I'm not arguing your point, just a little tidbit of information I've picked up along the way.

"well-written"

Okay, I agree with everything else, not that.

The amount of purple prose and repetition throughout the entire series was well beyond tedious.
User avatar #56 to #54 - caffeinecommissar (06/23/2014) [-]
Well, you have a point (and mind you, I read it five years ago and haven't touched it since), but that mainly happens whenever Meyers gets onto the topic of "Edward's Perfect Face", but other than that.

The story itself stinks, but the language was pretty good, I'd say. Even if the author has ****** up priorities.

> well written
> flat characters

choose one.
A story of this length with flat, development-free characters is by definition not well written man...

Sometimes you people make me wonder, if I am really at good at expressing myself in English, as I like to think.

The characters were flat, but the language used in the book was actually good as long as it doesn't concern "Edward's perfect face" - when ever you get to that it is worth barfing over.

I've seen stories of similar length, with good characters but a language that couldn't captivate an autistic bookworm even if it tied the asspie up and hid it in a basement.

If you take the overall average "score" of the book, it was a bad book, but the language managed to captivate me (again as long as it doesn't concern "Edward's perfect face").

Or is it entirely impossible for something to be good in one way, but terrible in every other way?

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the English language have an anecdote about Mussolini and running the trains on time, to emphasise that while some things are bad, they may still have some merits?

I get what you mean now.
Yes, bad things can be good in certain aspects nonetheless. But in my book (hue) no matter how astounding the use of language itself it's not enough to make a book well written if the story fails to provide the necessary depth.
User avatar #63 to #62 - caffeinecommissar (06/23/2014) [-]
Yeah, sorry, I wrote it last night and FJ doesn't have an edit function, so I couldn't exactly correct my error, "well written" was probably too broad a concept. What I meant was that the language was pretty good.

Overall the book was terrible, like, you wouldn't believe it if you hadn't read it, some of the characters has terrible background stories (one of the vampires is a veteran of the Confederate Army AFAIKAC) the whole concept is retarded and Stephenie Meyers is definitely one of those authors who should go have a wank before writing anything (so am I, but I'm aware of it).

The only merit the book has is that the language used is good - again, unless it details "Edward's Perfect Face", for ***** and giggles go to FJ's good old enemy TheOatmeal and find his rant on Twilight, because he summarises it fairly well.

she made a ******** of money, got popular. people talk about her, and she is still hot. taking that role was important for her. only because some 12 year olds make jokes about a movie on the internet doesnt mean **** to her.
#61 to #1 - anon (06/23/2014) [-]
the problem with her isn't her personality it's her voice. It has no variance.

Her acting (although it could just be her roles) also leaves something to desire.

User avatar #73 to #1 - drakonpunch (06/23/2014) [-]
She starred in Snow White and the Huntsman and was REALLY bad in that. I haven't seen Twilight but judging from Snow White, she is simply not very talented.
#77 to #1 - jormungandr (06/23/2014) [-]
All I remember her from is Panic Room and she was pretty solid in that. I can't imagine her getting worse as she got older, but then again I've never watched anything with her in it since.

Maybe a small amount of the Bandwagon Effect leaking in to people's opinions of her.
User avatar #96 to #1 - thedrgonzo (06/23/2014) [-]

I kinda like her.
I actually think she played her role in Twilight quite well.
The character in Twilight was a boring, ****** , useless twat, and that's what Kristen was like in the movies.
User avatar #93 to #5 - lobselvith (06/23/2014) [-]
She was just as bad in Snow White and The Huntsman. If any other actress had been Snow White, the movie would have been way more tolerable to sit through. It was still garbage.
User avatar #81 to #5 - emptysuperman (06/23/2014) [-]
No. Her acting in the movie was absolutely terrible. I only saw half of it, but holy **** it was bad. I think she's very attractive and I haven't seen her in anything else. But if I had to judge her on just that, I would consider her one of the worst actors of all time (any actor that has stared in at least a B or higher movie, anyway.)
#82 to #81 - iscrewbabies (06/23/2014) [-]
Tell me this... have you read the books?
User avatar #87 to #82 - emptysuperman (06/23/2014) [-]
There is a difference to playing the part of a boring person, and just not acting well. There is a video on YouTube I once saw (can't find it) where it shows a clips of her from that movie. And even when she is supposed to be shocked or afraid, she just talks like she's reading from a script.
#89 to #87 - iscrewbabies (06/23/2014) [-]
That's the point. She acted it perfectly.
When I was in the madhouse, all I had to read was that Twilight crap, so I read 'em, and I can damn sure tell you that she played her part well.

Well it isn't that bad in my country. I got into a lighter one, that wasn't as bad as some. There are 2 in my country that have cameras even in the toilets( they literally look at you take a piss ), and they wanted to put me into one of those at first. It was basically a lot of old people that have gone nuts, some people my age that had issues, and the "soft room" was basically just a white room with a bed in the middle, so no soft walls or anything. Barred windows everywhere though.
