Also: Why the **** would drinking coffee be bad? There is almost universal consensus that coffee is good for you.
User avatar #182 to #113 - bronybox (05/18/2015) [-]
No, there's an almost universal consensus that it's not explicitly BAD for you. Not being a piece of **** is not the same thing as being good.

Actually, there's a ton of evidence saying that it has antioxidant properties and reduces risk for cancer, plus the caffeine boosts productivity while providing almost no negative side effects.

It prevents cancer and lets you work longer without hurting you, I'd call that a bit more than just "not being a piece of **** "
User avatar #171 to #113 - kyubii (05/18/2015) [-]
Well it has a **** load of caffine. A good deal of people take it with milk, cream, and sugar. Also it's slightly acidic and stains your teeth.

Like anything it's good in moderation, but it's still not the best drink for you.

Me and my wife were literally just discussing this a few hours ago, relative to a pregant womans cravings for random food. We decided it was because the womans body needs a bunch of random vitamins and whatnot, not just for her own bodies processes but to create an entire miniature human as well. I think that while the mother herself may not know she and her baby needs, say, extra glucose right now, her body does and knows which foods have it so it creates a craving for that food.
#27 to #1 - anon (05/17/2015) [-]
I'm not a pregnant woman, but I can say for a fact that those food craving tings are complete and utter ******** , just because I've tried it before. when I crave sweets I want a baked confections of the chocolate or cinnamon variety, I tried replacing it with the food listed and after I still craved something sweet, I ended up stuffing my face wit the health alternative till I was full and still couldn't' rid the craving, it lasted till the day I allow myself to cheat.

This Info-graphic is not very good at all for a variety of reasons, but the biggest I want to complain about is the fact that JavaScript is becoming an absolute giant in the tech industry. Most companies nowadays are converting their traditional desktop applications into web applications. The market for applications written in C#, C++, Java, and more are rapidly dwindling since the web allows for a platform independent and more quickly developed (and frankly, better UI) experience for their users. About the only industry that's still going to need those higher tech languages is the video game industry, but that's changing now too since engines like Unity allow you to script in JavaScript, and with HTML5 and ASM.js technology, JavaScript web applications can have the performance of native desktop applicatons. Even companies like Adobe are in the process of porting Photoshop to a web solution for a subscription based service.

Lastly, any good hip Java developer will tell you that Java as a language is dead. Most Java based organizations have moved on to coding in a language that compiles to Java bite code rather than coding directly in Java its self (mostly because its a poorly constructed language that's a bit of a dinosaur). Scala and Go are two big ones.

While I totally agree with saying that the info-graphic is wrong I will have to disagree with you on multiple things.

Javascript is not taking over the industry but it is prominent in web development due to AJAX becoming rather popular due to its asynchronous nature, so you're right in the sense that the market for it is growing as more companies fully adopt or even base themselves around the internet. But... most actual software development businesses do not use javascript in the application and the ones that do, do not "have the performance of native desktop applications" as javascript is server-side processing and large applications (which are the ones that big companies generally develop) on those systems being used by a large audience causes massive strain on the servers processing these interactions, but those that develop small applications are putting them online more and more often due to the popularity of web-based small apps vs pc-based. So to clarify, you're right IF we're talking about small-scale applications. Also, really bad example to mention the Adobe photoshop port as that is all done client-side (i.e. not javascript).

Anyway moving on, while Java isn't as popular as it was say 10 years ago it is by no means dead, it is still so so so so so so so prominent in so many software development companies and industries that I can't tell you how wrong that statement (and the one I will get to in a second). Of course I can't speak for all disciplines of programming as I've only really worked with, have contacts in a few but to name a few major companies that still develop programs in Java, Capgemini, Accenture, Itron, Logica(now CGI). All multi-billion dollar yearly revenue businesses.

This ties in with the previous point, but the statement, "the only industry that's still going to need those higher tech languages is the video game industry" is ridiculous. How many applications do you have on your computer? How many applications run on things like... smart meters? What I'm trying to get at is, every application that does not use human interaction, is highly intensive with calculations or processes, does not use javascript and instead uses a "higher tech" language.

Anyway, thus ends my rant.
