so it occurred to me that maybe the creator of this map was the idiot.
why the **** would you color russia something inbetween D cup and "larger than D cup"?
the hexidecimal color is split between orange and red enough that I'm not sure what color to call this.

You say learn to read, but unless they added an edit option, he said "over D cup." I think you should take your own prescription.

User avatar #104 to #101 - orkamungus ONLINE (07/30/2015) [-]
I, luckily enough, had so far no DIRECT contact with them, but plenty of experience with their online community thanks to Dota. If I had to condemn one country to obliteration by nuclear holocaust based on the experiences I made with the online community of this country, it would be the blasted Russians. I have never before and never after encountered people that are in general so extremely rude, agressive and ungrateful. Those people will flame you for speaking German on an EU West server, refuse to speak English to you for the entire game unless it comes to flaming you and your entire family tree up to you ancestors and can't even say please and thank you. I play with people from all over the world, including people from Norway, Scotland and Poland. All perfectly nice people and they all agree that Russians are bastards, the whole lot of them. I hate those guys even more than the French, and I'm German, hating the French is in our genes.
User avatar #105 to #104 - winterconcerten (07/30/2015) [-]
They act like that in real life as well. Like we at work get free drinks etc. and since they showed up, it's been chaos. There is enough for like 2/3 for everyone on the floor. The moment the drinks arrive, they push everyone aside and grab as many as they can. If you say something you'll get in a fight. Like I said, they are barbarians.
User avatar #106 to #105 - orkamungus ONLINE (07/30/2015) [-]

It's not that I had bad experiences, I still have them every day at work, and everyone where I work ( all the teams : Italian, Belgium, French, Spanish, Dutch, Polish. more than 50 people) say the same, the ones who work here are horrible. There is also a reason certain hotels in Turkey etc. refuse them.

User avatar #31 to #24 - Rei ONLINE (07/30/2015) [-]
keyword "Visitors"
User avatar #44 to #24 - iridium (07/30/2015) [-]
Japan likes visitors and tourists.

They're somewhat polarized on the immigrants and people who go to live there. Younger generations are generally more open to immigrants and foreigners, and the general attitude of the country towards foreigners who actually want to spend a lot of time there is "Eh, as long as they speak the Language". You'll never be "Japanese" if you aren't ethnically, the way that you can be a China-born American or a Mexican-born Canadian, but for the most part most of them don't really mind foreigners in their country as long as they adapt. It does depend on area as well as the people though. And the country itself doesn't allow many new citizens, their quota is something like 15,000 legal immigrants a year, and most of those are from China or Korea, with the remainder probably from places like Brazil which have huge Japanese

Mind you I only speak from the stories that I've heard from several Americans and Westerners who have lived there, so I am not relaying my own personal experience (though I have chatted with some pretty cool Japanese folk on the internet before and they seem pretty chill) but piecing together others'. And they lived in predominately well-populated regions that are used to seeing foreigners. I don't think you'd get the same reception in a place that isn't already constantly exposed to them. And I think it's also often an age thing. All the people I've asked say that they've met some form of discrimination, but often it was more ignorance than malice. Also note that these were white people and hispanics. Black people I've heard get it worse.

TL;DR Xenophobia in Japan exists but from what I've heard it's overexaggerated, especially concerning just tourists.
#269 to #44 - octaviano (07/30/2015) [-]
And then there's the japanese transfer from two years ago in my class who claims that the japanese actually are - in her opinion - really xenophobic.

Then again, she's from Kobe, so the whole used-to-foreginers thing might apply.
User avatar #272 to #269 - iridium (07/30/2015) [-]
Like I said I think it's also the people who go. Males have it easier than Females for sure.

Like any countries some areas are better than others. They're worse than the States overall, but not as bad as people say. Though again I can only go by what others have told me.

I'm gonna call ******** on the first one for two immediate reasons.
1. South Korea (admittedly not the best Korea) loves foreigners. Especially English speakers. Double especially if you're tall with blonde hair/blue eyes. Septuple especially if you're either or all of these things and speak Korean too.

2. France ******* hates tourists.
User avatar #159 to #27 - pollozero (07/30/2015) [-]
Also gonna call bs on china since ive been living a year in china and they loves foreingers. Big cities and small towns. Even people come to you and ask for a photo and give you a thumbs up or high five . I had friends who didnt know a word of mandarin and people just started teaching them some while trying to understand.
#175 to #27 - anon (07/30/2015) [-]
I think it may be related to the fact that usually asians love western culture but hate other asians. So if a chinese guy shows up they'd probably be very unwelcoming.

Purely anecdotal, but was in Paris three weeks ago. Everyone was pleasant. Someone helped me with ticket on the metro, waiter spoke English, woman on metro told me to 'Look out for gypsy' and then pointed to my pocket.
Maybe I just got lucky, or maybe I was expecting everyone to shout abuse at me and left surprised when they didn't.
#51 to #27 - anon (07/30/2015) [-]
Eh, south korea I wouldn't say loves foreigners... I was there last year and quite a lot of clubs would only allow koreans in. Also some of the restraunts didn't like us because we ordered more food/drinks than most koreans would.

User avatar #360 to #51 - lennybrown (07/30/2015) [-]
It probably wasn't the more food/drinks thing or that they wouldn't allow you in, its more like that you didn't show manners or respect. Tip if you ever go again learn a bit of Korean and there manners or stay in tourist spots.

I smell ******** . When did Britain ever invade Portugal?
#387 to #7 - anon (07/31/2015) [-]
I believe it was during the 80 years war and Anglo-Spanish wars. Both Spain and England sent armadas against each other. Portugal was at the time under a personal union with Spain in the Iberian Union ultimately part of the Spanish Empire. Portugal had forces fighting on both side with the Spanish and with the British. Very likely that because Spain had legal control of Portugal the British fighting with the Portuguese rebels under Antonio, Prior of Crato who also had a claim to the throne being the grandson of the previous king of Portugal, are counted as invaders.

**anonymous used "*roll picture*"**
**anonymous rolled image**Someone also stated that the Portuguese and British have the longest alliance, that is true, but at the time Portugal was under a Spanish ruler which means that it was not at liberty to uphold it's alliances since it was not free.

There is a place called the Falkland Islands. We had a spat with Portugal over them. Then took them for ourselves.

Source: I live in Scotland and we got taught this **** in school.

Yeah, but it's not Britain invading Portugal.

I'd love to know what kind of world history are these people learning.
User avatar #65 to #64 - doblade ONLINE (07/30/2015) [-]
Honestly it looks like a map for places that Britain have fought with cause there are quite a few we ain't invaded. But that's the internet for ya. Spread misinformation like **** on toast.
User avatar #68 to #65 - bornintheeighties (07/30/2015) [-]
We haven't fought with them either, but you're right.

I just get a little defensive with this kind of stuff, we're tiny and temperamental. Like chihuahuas.

It technically did during the Napoleonic wars, during the French occupation.

Ya its ******** GB and Portugal have the oldest alliance in the world, and invasion could simply mean in the maps terms of bases as in WW2 we had bases in Azores and you should look into the 1890 British Ultimatum where GB disputed some of Portugal's territory that they had in Africa essentially "invadeing Portugal's territory" but I think that shouldn't count because the areas where being disputed. War of Spanish Succession. Spain annexed parts of Portugal and Britain raided plus landed troops at the ports that the Spanish now held.

Good call, it was a mess of crowns and successions and we got pretty caught up in the mess. Although Portugal wasn't the main target it does count as an invasion, I guess.

I stand corrected then and gonna look that War of Succession better
User avatar #97 to #82 - Rockaman (07/30/2015) [-]
You could also argue that the French held parts of Portugal during the Napoleonic Wars were invaded by the British too.
User avatar #98 to #97 - Rockaman (07/30/2015) [-]
Or the mostly British (as in English and Welsh) 2nd Crusade that helped form Portugal in the first place in the Reconquista
User avatar #122 to #98 - bornintheeighties (07/30/2015) [-]
That is a bit nitpicky. What I do consider an invasion is going after an independent country's lands being that country the target itself, and not because A or B are holding bits of it. But since not everyone shares that opinion I try to be a bit more "open minded" on the subject. I consider Spain has effectively invaded Portugal as well as France. Britain... I'd argue about it, specially considering for how long they've been allies, but some occasions, such as the War of Succession you've mentioned, could be considered an actual invasion.
User avatar #125 to #122 - Rockaman (07/30/2015) [-]
I think that graphic is more to do with the land being invaded that that country now occupies, as many of those countries did not exist during the time that a British invasion would have happened.
User avatar #129 to #125 - bornintheeighties (07/30/2015) [-]
It has borders though, wouldn't that imply it's a country?

Either way, that map is questionable to say the least, there's a couple of countries in there that made me wonder as well. This is the kind of stuff that should go along with more specific information.
