I'd rather have spiders around than thousands of west Nile disease and malaria infected mosquitoes

You know what I want as a pet?

The giant huntsman spider.

They have a legspan of 12 inches.

Bigger than a bird eating tarantula.

And they're known for dropping down on you from the ceiling.

No they're harmless.
User avatar #86 to #85 - flybager (07/20/2014) [-]
They do look like they pack a bite.

For being 'harmless', they're awesome looking spiders.
User avatar #87 to #86 - leglesslegolegolas (07/20/2014) [-]
Their bite is painful for a little bit, more so than the usual sting from little ones, but it won't actually hurt you.

Sadly the wasp wasn't able to fly, so it was at a serious disadvantage. However, it is still a glorious event to behold.

Spiders kick ass.

And they kill flies.

******* .

FLIES.
User avatar #20 - dbBlues (07/20/2014) [-]
At first, I thought it was one of those high-speed, all over the place, DBZ type fights.
Then I realized it was one of those one-sided, worldstarhiphop fights.

Not to mention spiders dont eat, but rather suck their prey's blood out. And I believe they dont mind if insides get sucked out too As far as I know, anyways.
User avatar #64 to #54 - muchswagsuchwow (07/20/2014) [-]
it's not just blood my friend its all of the preys insides i know this because i have 4 tarantula's (there really ****** awsome pets) one time my biggest sadira bit into a super worm and it juices squirted out and hit the enclosure window
User avatar #67 to #64 - flybager (07/20/2014) [-]
I was thinking about getting a spider-pet (A Tegenaria domestica or 'barn funnel weaver') but I don't want to imprison one and make it unhappy.
I also don't really know if these guys would want you to be with them a lot or rather the other way around.

How big are your cages, if I may ask?
I imagine if they're big enough for a tarant they'd be big enough for my look-for pet.
#68 to #67 - muchswagsuchwow (07/20/2014) [-]
well first of all i rarely handled mine because that would never happen in the wild secondly my uncle gave the enclosures and set them up for me so i don't know the size's by heart (sorry) and lastly the barn funnel is higly aggressive i mean sadira is but i have experience so it kind of balances it out as in i know when she pissed and when she isnt but if this is your fist spider i would look into a mexican painted leg very docile and very hardy
also picture of sadira

The spider you recommened seems a tad bit big for my league, but I thank you for the recommendation anyways.

I also didn't figure they were aggresive, when I find one in its habitat of own choosing, I can usually nudge them on my hand to take them outside, and I don't need to close my hand either. As opposed to those hoppy jump-spiders. Little buggers are too scared to realise I'm trying to help.

I think it's mostly about how you treat them wether they get aggressive or not, the Tegenaria, that is

Her legs remind me of sunflower seeds, and she looks very fluffy. a very good-looking spider!
