Pffft, what?
All you do is kill a demon for a keyblade so you can ram it into a gimp's face and free a girl from a cage, which she orgasms and teleports out of, thereafter giving you a magic ring that makes you not look like a decrepit, rotting corpse.

It's not THAT weird.

Gimp suits are generally associated with masochism which, if you don't know, is someone who enjoys pain or punishment. Dark Souls is famously difficult. You will die over, and over and over again while playing this game. The joke is you'd need to be a masochist to play it.

It just confused me because i've beaten both games, and i just couldn't see how that was related. And it ain't that hard, and not even near self punishment in my opinion.

To some it's not all that hard. To others, it's a ******* nightmare of a game. To each their own, either way that's what the gimp suit was used for.

Dark Souls is harder than Dark Souls 2. Dark Souls 2 was just stupid by comparison unfortunately, which is why you need to take it as an entirely different game to enjoy it in my opinion.

#61 to #59 - golnax (05/14/2014) [-]
Pretty much. I mean Dark Souls was actually *challenging* to play and that's what made it difficult. The level designs were well thought out, enemy placement was spot on, bosses were difficult but again well thought out and the battle system was flawless.

Dark Souls 2 had a bad battle system that you didn't notice you were being hit half the time (Especially with arrows), the bosses aren't as legitimately challenging and the enemies didn't seem to scale properly from one area to the next in difficulty. But really, what ****** the game in comparison was the battle system controls.

There's a third one out there where he's shakin' his butt, but I don't have it unfortunately... have this instead.

Couldn't agree more, but now when all the people who worked on dark souls 1, are doing demon souls 2, it can't be worse than dark souls 2.

Just found out the gif fits Daft punk: Harder, Better, Faster perfectly! Also only pic i had on my school computer that was related.
#64 to #62 - golnax (05/14/2014) [-]
Let's hope not... After such a glorious **** up as Dark Souls 2, I'd be hard pressed to believe that they could do worse - and in all honesty it's not that bad of a game, not at all. It's only bad by comparison, and that's the important thing to remember. It's still a fantastic game in its own right, it just doesn't hold a candle to its predecessor.

One dark Souls Wallpaper for another.
#65 to #64 - speedyonbiscuit ONLINE (05/14/2014) [-]
Yeah, but that also leads to some sort of disappointment, dark souls 2 was supposed to be better, that's what a sequel should be. Dark souls 2 got 7/10 while Dark souls 1 got 9/10.

Found another one
#66 to #65 - golnax (05/14/2014) [-]
Eeeeh, I'd give Dark Souls 2 an 8/10 while giving Dark Souls a 10/10. Because again, Dark Souls 2 isn't that bad of a game, it's just bad by comparison. Dark Souls was perfect in both game play and in story/lore. Dark Souls 2 had worse game play and the story was slightly worse than the first one, if only because it didn't hold as much weight with the lore. Either way, both were well worth the buy and I don't regret getting either of them.

#67 to #66 - speedyonbiscuit ONLINE (05/14/2014) [-]
The lore of dark souls 1 is the best story ever, i just can't comprehend how big and perfect it is, i keep learning new stuff, and i'm just more and more amazed. Love it just can't get enough of it!

And it's games that i would still pay full price for today, it's just worth it!

The story is fantastic, the entire "Souls" universe is fantastic. It all comes together to form just the right amount of difficulty, cool story, graphics and game play to form a master piece that will likely never be recreated as well again. I'd easily call it the "adult" forerunner of Legend of Zelda if that wasn't still an ongoing series, so intricate and vast is the world.

May it never die.

Have you tried the increased difficulty? :p NG+1 or NG+2, also try out the achievements etc, no bonfires, no deaths. Then it will be hard
User avatar #118 to #117 - speedyonbiscuit ONLINE (05/15/2014) [-]
I'm in ng+++ in the first game, (I'm on my fourth run, so i guess it would be that many plus') And ng++ in dark souls 2, and it's not that hard that i would consider it being worthy of putting on a gimp suit.

But really, any game becomes hard if you can only die once, and all that. I would rather play the game as it was meant for me, not just increasing it's difficulty by blocking out all that made the game fair.

I can see it would be harder of course, but any game would if you took away everything that was there to make it easier for you. I'm just saying dark souls in it self, is not that hard as everyone says it is.
#63 to #55 - anon (05/14/2014) [-]
You are probably right, i mean even in mmos i go to 20 level higher areas and **** around and die like 50 times.

Man did they **** up dark souls 2...
User avatar #21 to #3 - mowgaycraft (05/14/2014) [-]
I have to agree kinda.

I don't mean to say it's too hard but there's a bunch of areas that involve using the weak ass jump skill to platform from point a to b. For items, mind you, but compare that to the first game and the difference in amount is much bigger. Dark Souls isn't about platforming, and it sure as hell isn't good at it.

Soul Memory is stupid as hell. The level system made jolly cooperation the most tedious system; the +/-10+(10% your level) system was simple to get savvy with and was easy to manage. Sure it lead to griefing but I've heard very little suggesting that griefing is a foreign act in the game. I'm already having trouble playing with buddies in the first game with it's ****** matchmaking without having to meticulously manage an ethereal bar above my head.

User avatar #32 to #21 - assdoreponyfucker (05/14/2014) [-]
I have to concur, the game does not rely on jump areas, which are not even challenging to do, they are there to make it so that you're not walking all the time, and that some items you need to think to get.

The Soul Memory thing-makes sense in terms of PvP, also if you want to play with friends making sure you are both at the same window (which is actually somewhat large, later on) is not much of a hassle, and the God Ring or whatever the hell its called makes it SO much easier to play with friends.

Everything else, Dark Souls 2 improved. Combat is more realistic with adaptability and how it affects your speed, the graphics (master race) are beautiful, soundtrack is sublime. Easier bosses are made up for an even harder New Game Plus experience and harder areas. The bonfire teleportation has to do with the fact everything branches off of Majula, running from Heide's to Fallen Giants would have been very tedious in the beginning, and as well as very little area to area shortcuts. Covenants had been executed perfectly now with no abandon punishments.

Only thing for me I didn't like were some annoying areas (pretty obligatory for a souls game) like the Gutter/Black Gulch and Shaded Woods. Not that they were bad, its just that I didn't enjoy going through them. Also the story was not as intriguing as DS1.

TL;DR there is no reason that dark souls 2 was ****** up, they did everything right and was a direct improvement from its predecessor. ohhh I know you're from Colorado
User avatar #108 to #32 - derpingthederps (05/14/2014) [-]
I agree with you mostly. I loved the game myself, except the pvp thing makes a bad turn imo.
If you wanna practice pvp on your new game, you'll get to far ahead in sm and wont be able to co-op with people making the rest of the game hard. So it's either pvp OR pve imo
User avatar #109 to #108 - assdoreponyfucker (05/14/2014) [-]
Not really, I pvp'd and pve'd all the way to the point where I am now. PC version, also your other comment, rolling and shield-raising both scale with adaptability. If you level it around 21 then you'd get a pretty fast roll/shield raise. It's more realistic. I also beat the whole game plus some new game plus bosses with only melee.
User avatar #111 to #109 - derpingthederps (05/14/2014) [-]
ooh? I never leveled adaptability much, maybe that's where I went wrong. And there are like 5/6 enemies in the game that just seem op with melee, certainly not impossible tho
User avatar #112 to #111 - assdoreponyfucker (05/14/2014) [-]

Some of it is just picking bones imo only agree with about 20% of it

User avatar #114 to #113 - assdoreponyfucker (05/14/2014) [-]
Yeah not 100% change my mind, it does pick many bones but it does light a few things to my mind about the game which I didn't catch at first. I disagree with much of it. Sorry my context was misleading. From my other comments I sounded like I love the game so much, but there were things I honestly didn't like that I didn't want to think about- that video brought them to my mind.
User avatar #115 to #114 - derpingthederps (05/14/2014) [-]
Yeah! Like that enemy with the 2h mace in dragon world. He sucks so bad
User avatar #116 to #115 - assdoreponyfucker (05/14/2014) [-]
He just wails at you with no end. I agree many of the enemies are cheap and the amount of hordes and lack of in depth 1v1 fights and varying enemy moves are the worst parts of the game. That, level design, and things like the elevator up Earthen peek to Iron Keep. Makes 0 sense. I have a very strong hunch that they will release a DLC that explains everything, why people forget, why the world is confusing, and the missing gaps in the plot.
User avatar #107 to #3 - derpingthederps (05/14/2014) [-]
First time I thought the game was pretty bad, but it's not TOO bad.
It's just not worth using melee imo except for pvp.

Dark Souls 2 Critique
#11 to #8 - peebze (05/13/2014) [-]
Couldn't watch it past the first 3 minutes. The critiquer couldn't even realize that the intro was made from a male point of view, BUT that it is not YOUR specific character's history. The intro gives nothing of your character history and makes no hint of anything like that at all.

The imagery used is simply to connect with the player with the feeling of loss. Decay. Becoming Hollow.
#17 to #11 - applescryatnight ONLINE (05/14/2014) [-]
i also noticed that.
but the guy had a lot of other good points.
the enemies had an artificial difficulty put in by having swarms rather than 1 on 1 combat. you cant just make it funner by making it fake hard.
and to much fan service to the whole "dark souls is hard" idea.
it shouldnt be designed to be a hard game. it should be designed to be fun, challenging, and interesting.
i think dark souls 2 lacked that a little. good none the less though.

Ambushes, yes, but there weren't close to as many swarms and just completely unpredictable and unfair traps, which were almost never in the previous Souls games.
#20 to #17 - peebze (05/14/2014) [-]
I agree he does have some points, but he was very ignorant.

I never looked at Dark Souls as a hard game myself. The first game had a high learning curve, and the second one, to me at least, feels more like an expansion pack than the second game. Not saying its a bad thing, but its not good either. I feel that they still did well for the game, and I'm enjoying the hell out of it still.

User avatar #77 to #76 - pvtgoblin (05/14/2014) [-]
Agreed 100%, Hidetake has to come back, he is amazing.

They also focused too much on making the game "mysterious" and I swear to god at least half of the item descriptions say something like "nobody knows the origin" or "Unknown something something". Pissed me the **** off. I think they're trying too hard on making the game more mainstream, which should NEVER be the goal.

Or the fact they said right on the ******* giant souls that they are useless, so of course i used them, then i had to look up why king vendrick was not taking damage. And now i am forced to restart the game. I payed 60 dollars and i can't even beat the game for real because it tricked me...

Yeah, it's a damn shame. I had some fun times with the game, but I don't even feel like going into NG++. Trying out other builds seems pointless aswell because there's like a total of 12 different weapon movesets. It's kind of sad, really. Most weapons, if upgraded and/or enchanted is perfectly able to carry you through the game.
Personally I'm a fan of dex builds, and when I played through DS2 the first time I used the falchion I started with through more than half the game. No problem.
You just have to upgrade your weapons and learn how to deal as much damage as possible(two-handing weapons for example)and then pretty much anything will do.
User avatar #91 to #85 - redknull ONLINE (05/14/2014) [-]
Yeah, but the weapons you start with. You know, those rusted broken ********** , I kept roaming and dying constantly with those until I found the flame sword in that cave where the huge ass monster spits the ******** at you I could finally do some real damage instead of constantly getting wiped at 2+ packs

Huh. I never got those. Did you choose the deprived class? I started with a falchion and a short sword(swordsman class). No rusty ********** here.
You should, however, not rely too much on that sword. You will encounter bosses and other enemies who are immune to fire. By then you should be using something else. The fire sword is great early on though.

i just drew the parallel between the souls series and mario. I enjoyed both for the same reason. They were initially difficult as you encountered the new maps and enemies, but after a playthrough or two you start to entertain yourself with other things like speedruns. In the souls case its the culture and little communities that formed in game. (sunbros, sackbros, gankers, giantdad...)

as th game aged and got better controls or new and more intuitive methods it drew ire formt he fanbase as this limits the culture forming.

Wow, she must be rich. All that money and free time? Guess that only happens in yolo-land, where those 7 minutes are actually all you get
