I hear ya. I'm almost 29 years old and I've been a chef for almost 11 years, yet every family get together my mother and father have to ask, "When are you going to get a real job?" The last family gathering I went to was my brothers wedding in 2010.

I feel like I would ******* love to be a chef, but I continue to work in my field because I don't want to "waste" my education (although it can be useful in pretty well every field).
User avatar #31 to #23 - dejax (11/26/2013) [-]
Tell them a chef is a ******* real job, my bf is a chef and he makes good money.
User avatar #32 to #31 - chexlemeneux (11/26/2013) [-]
As cliche as it sounds, it's not about the money. I love what I do and I can't imagine myself doing anything else. And as far as I'm concerned, if they can't accept that then they aren't worth my time.
User avatar #35 to #32 - dejax (11/26/2013) [-]
I imagine to your parents its about the money. They just want to know that your future is secure and you will be set for after they're gone.

actually, as a cook u get a crappy salary compared to the crazy ammount of hours u work. But most chefs i've worked with in my short career as a cook had a good paycheck.

Well my boyfriend isn't a cook, hes a mother ******* Chef.

Good for him, what kind of restaurant does he work in?

Not asking about the style of food but i wanna know if its a high class restaurant or a place where a blue collar guy can get a steak for a decent price.

Maybe link to site if u dont mind?

No shame in being a chef.
My father was a chef. He gave up his sports career and moved to Arizona with my mother to become a chef.
Do what you love.

It should be, "Dads face when I told him what mom tried to pull"
He's referring to the mother when he says mom.

Food will help. On a side note scurvy is bad. I understand family strife. My mom gave birth to 5 others in my litter. I was in charge of looking after the runt. Enjoy yer visit to the depths of the sea, landlubber

Its of Gangplank, a League of Legends champion. One of his skills involves eating an orange (skills name MAY be "Scurvy" or some variant, don't play the dude myself) which will take off most, if not all forms of crowd control (silences, slows, stuns, snares, etc.).

I'm well aware of what Gangplank's scurvy does, I'm more interested in the comic this image comes from.

You should suck it up and be with your family anyway. Maybe you should think of the feelings of the people who love you.
I've had a step dad for a year and a half now and his family annoys the **** out of me and I'm gonna be with them for Christmas for a week. But I'll go anyway, because I know that's what they'd like. Because I'm thinking of them, not me.

Amazing how you try to give a lesson in empathy without even attempting to understand how someone else's situation could be different from your own.
User avatar #121 to #77 - vissova (11/26/2013) [-]
I'm well aware of that. But the post doesn't say that "my family hates me" so there's
no reason to not assume that it's the same situation as my family.
User avatar #86 to #38 - kolmar (11/26/2013) [-]
There's a difference between your family annoying you and your family ridiculing you and basically disrespecting you every 5 minutes. Some people don't like their families and they are not obliged to be with the people they don't like JUST because it's some special day.
User avatar #2 - kosicandavid (11/25/2013) [-]

North Sea this time of year is Okay if you don't mind chasing your food around and walking on the wall's as the 750 Foot ship gets tossed around like a 10 foot boat, It was fun the first few times but it grew old fast--Kuwait City, and other places in the Persian gulf are mild this time of year 70 - 80's in the day, Unlike August where it's damn near 120 every day--But even then, the Persian Gulf is boring.

My opinion of the yearly family reunions is the same as when i pick up random kids from school, abduct them and rape them in order to teach them to never trust strangers.

It's not really fun anymore, you just keep doing it because you feel like you have to.

It's sad in both situations.

It's sad in an "aww man, that sucks" kind of way if they're the assholish kind of family at dinner.

It's sad in the shaking-my-head-in-shame kind of way when someone is just doing it to get away from interacting with people.

Who knows. Like, right now, everyone is pissed at my cousin because he got in a fight with the favorite because he was being an arrogant prick. And here I am hating like 80% of my family on my father's side. ..ESPECIALLY my father himself. But he's a story for another time.

well consider maybe something you cant fix, unless the opposing side wishes to fix it as well. I will say it has been attempted but for not. Somethings take time and somethings we cannot fix, that is being accepting and a part of growing up.
