I'm just not a fan of the character possibly having a kid. That's one hell of a backstory for an open world rpg protagonist.

saltyfries (06/16/2015) [-] now aside from Fallout 3, think about what anon said, he's satirizing the concept of the main character being born into the world and the game, whereas most western RPG's and a few other games lately have your character introduced as dead, shot in the head, or in prison Fallout NV, Elder Scrolls Online, Bioshock 2, Destiny, etc. , or how Japanese RPG's just have the character be a part of society for a long time and have either a weird past, criminal past, or just plain boring past.

With Bethesda open world games possibly the only saving grace for them is how easy it is to roleplay whoever/whatever you want.
Play as a spellblade in oblivion who was locked up for performing illegal magic to defend him/herself and falsely accused of murder.
Fallout 3 sort of limited this option considering you were a vault dweller, but you could at least choose what sort of person to be.
In Fallout 4, from what we know so far, you are a father/husband(mother/wife) with a cocky attitude who from appearances doesn't seem to give a **** that the world ended 200 years ago.
There's no way to insert your own backstory into that.

I guess that's... comforting? Still kinda puts a hamper on a lot of people's backstory **** . Some people love putting all kinds of motivations and personality into their character but w/e. Still kind of wary of the whole voiced protagonist thing since I don't feel it worked over pretty well with the dragon age series. Did they show dialogue wheels too during their presentation?
