#51 - anon (01/01/2014) [-]
You're required to wear a seatbelt because it could be dangerous not to. But you can ride around on one of these without so much as a helmet in some states. Don't get me wrong, I like seatbelts, I like motorcycles. It just seems a little hypocritical to have mandatory seatbelts unless but you can ride around on a small, hard to see, extremely fragile vehicle with literally no protection from anything.
#119 to #51 - anon (01/01/2014) [-]
helmets can actually be more harmful than no helmets.

Drivers subconsciously think you're safer if you're hit so they're more reckless
You're subconsciously more reckless thinking you're safe.
Pavement impact is more likely due to size addition.

It's like how footballers had few head injuries before helmets, and now they go all out and get a ******** of brain damage.

But you can jump off avoiding any damage and if you wear a helmet the damage would be less.

yfw.jpg when you realize you live in a country where a woman can get an abortion without ever asking the father if he wants the kid (or even know who the father is) because it's her body.

Oh, you're not wearing your seatbelt which could only ever result in physical harm to you and absolutely noone else, here's your ticket.

wtf do we do when pregnant women stop wearing seatbelts....
User avatar #140 to #41 - gowge (01/01/2014) [-]
Doesn't hurt anyone else?
What about that woman who now has to raise 3 kids on her own after their dad decided he couldn't be bothered to put a belt on?
#167 to #140 - xgolgothax (01/01/2014) [-]
you'll note that I specifically stated physical harm.
While the toiling and and emotional trauma of survivors is certainly significant, the same could be said of abortion, and again, that's a decision we entrust to any reject capable of procreation.
#155 to #140 - anon (01/01/2014) [-]
If the man didn't think about that to begin with he was a dumb **** and selfish to begin with and probably wouldn't have worn a goddamn seat-belt anyway. You dumbasses defending the government about giving you a ticket for something you would do anyway just amazes me. You're one of those people that shouldn't wear a seat-belt.
User avatar #159 to #155 - gowge (01/01/2014) [-]
So you should just let the guy kill himself because he's a ******* idiot? why let his wife and kids suffer when all you have to do is say "put a seat-belt on or you will get a fine".
People wear seat-belts because they don't want to get fined or die. If you don't want a fine here's an idea, Put your ******* seatbelt on!
User avatar #48 to #41 - letting (01/01/2014) [-]
I don't understand the point you're trying to make...
#70 to #48 - xgolgothax (01/01/2014) [-]
Just that i don't understand why choosing to not wear a seatbelt is a criminal act. It implies that one isn't intelligent enough to be trusted with such a decision, while we're trusted every day with issues that carry much greater weight.
Oh, and school buses aren't even equipped with seatbelts..
User avatar #73 to #70 - letting (01/01/2014) [-]
I was more-so referring to your abortion analogy there, were you implying that an abortion should be considered a criminal act, but failing to wear a seatbelt should not?

I agree with your overall premise however, seatbelts should be required to be present in a vehicle by law, but you should not be required to wear one if you're A. Over the age of 18. and B. Riding in your own personal vehicle. Choosing to risk your life over not clicking in a strap that literally takes 3 seconds and will save you from flying out of the windshield and landing in a heap on the asphalt, should still remain your decision. Alas, the ticket income is far too good to pass up, same reason for speeding tickets and failing to use a turn signal, etc. It's not to save lives, it's money that they're really after.

It amazes me how ******* laziness and being stubborn can lead people to early deaths.
>Texting on the highway
>Not buckling your seatbelt
>Not yielding when someone has the right of way
>Driving when you know you're drunk as ****

The sad truth is that the people who make those ****** decisions deserve the consequences of their bad choices.
#99 to #94 - ravesherp (01/01/2014) [-]
Sir, I would like to ask how smoking is either lazy or stubborn. In my opinion smoking is nothing more then like drinking coffee. Some people like it in the morning, other people like it while others are drinking coffee. Some people simply don't touch the stuff. You know the sad reality? Both smoking and drinking coffee harm your body equally, in different ways.

So sir, I'll ask again, how is smoking lazy or stubborn?
#109 to #99 - cawpikolo (01/01/2014) [-]
caffeine on occasion is beneficial for the body. smoking is simply poison like soda that you can do over and over. smoking may not be lazy but it is a leading cause of unintentional fires due to people just tossing cigarettes out the window rather than putting them in the built in tray.
User avatar #110 to #109 - kousei ONLINE (01/01/2014) [-]
first, A (singular) cup of coffee a day is actually healthy for you, (that's for ravesherp)
second, there are certain (albeit rare) circumstances where cigarettes are medicinal. Personal experience from when someone close to me stopped smoking, with her withdrawals she was having worsened symptoms for something else and the doctor actually told her to keep smoking.
Third, I started because my parents told me not to and my friends told me to, it's not that easy to stop (Lookin at you Bad Man) i can't just put it down and say "done" cut me some slack, we all made mistakes as a kid.

It is still better not to get addicted in the first place. Getting up after lying down is surely a harder task than standing up, but many are easily lured because they live in the present, see lying down an easier alternative to having to stand up all the time and start smoking their lungs away.

How to Help a Drunk Driver
User avatar #53 - slunchy (01/01/2014) [-]
I used to be really misanthropic and think, "You know, if it wasn't for all the innocent casualties, we should just let people drive drunk, not wear seatbelts, and make all drugs legal. I'm not talking about pot, I'm talking about the drugs that make your dick fall off. Let all these people kill themselves off via natural selection." Sadly, however, the asshole that drives drunk stands a good chance of crashing into somebody that isn't a total waste of space, and that's not cool. So I guess we should just keep trucking'...
