It's for older cars with tape decks. You slot the tape into the deck, and that wire trails out so you can play your MP3 player through the tape deck.

User avatar #9 to #3 - jmmora (04/27/2014) [-]
must have been a low quality one, i have never had problems with the one i have other than i sometimes have to wiggle it a little bit so it detects the cassette completely but that's because my car is a '96 Honda Accord
User avatar #88 to #9 - failtolawl (04/27/2014) [-]
I have had 2, one by Sony and another by some company with an upside down Walkman symbol. both are bad, it's cassette quality no matter who makes it. But I guess if you own a car that has a cassette player you can't really tell the difference with the speakers in your car.

go on eBay and get a care radio transmitter. Cost 8 bucks and it "blocks" out a radio frequency and it plays the music of whatever is plugged in.

The downside to these is when you pass somebody on the road that's tuned into the same frequency as you, you can often interrupt their radio with your music.

Create playlist before hand?
User avatar #73 to #68 - yonyon (04/27/2014) [-]
That's an option, but my experience (when with other drivers) says otherwise. An USB port or bluetooth are good options I think. Personally, I still like CD's.
User avatar #104 to #73 - cormy (04/27/2014) [-]
I'm not sure what you mean... Sounds like the same thing to me? Whether you're using a USB, iPod, CD or Bluetooth-enabled device, you still have to change songs manually, which can get you distracted if they aren't in an order you want. Of course if you have a playlist and it's relatively small like on a CD which can only hold maybe 20 songs max, it's easy to just spam the "next track" button 'til you get to the one you want but you should be able to do that with any of the other devices aswell if you're dealing with a playlist that has a managable size.
User avatar #106 to #104 - yonyon (04/27/2014) [-]
My car has a screen displaying the list of songs on the device, so I can select them with buttons on the steering wheel. The titles appear on the HUD so I don't have to take my attention away from the road. I admit that it is not exactly standard though, but I simply believe looking sideways while selecting a song is just as dangerous as texting.

bluetooth is ******** . With the battery it uses. Even Wi-Fi and 3G do't require that much energy.
#32 to #31 - Einsty (04/27/2014) [-]
>more strain on the device battery since you need to have yet another transmitter online
>connection prone to glitches since there is a lot of interference
>it's a mess if you use more than one device to play music from
On the other hand
- cables get tangled more often than not and unlike you they know how to knot
- BT enables playback control

Glorious sony master race that has bt AND aux. Also usb but that thing is **** .

Actually, it's fun when you have multiple devices on one source. Like a friend of mine's car. Three of us have our phones on bluetooth all the time. Whenever we get in, whoever's phone gets connected first gets to be the DJ until we get out again.

User avatar #98 to #32 - penileburglar (04/27/2014) [-]
...I've never had issues with interference on mine, and have no reason to connect multiple devices when all my music is in one place.

And as an added bonus, if the music doesn't turn on when I start the car, I know I've forgotten my phone. It's kept me from leaving my phone at home or work many, many times.
User avatar #56 to #32 - durkadurka (04/27/2014) [-]
You make good points about bluetooth connectivity. It's great when it works: music from my phone plays automatically over the stereo, I can change songs from the stereo and answer calls as well.

But it does have issues with multiple connected devices, and does experience some interference.
