heard a lot of crap about cod being a "12 year old casual generic fps." Its pretty fun in my opinion. I dont have bad taste in video games either (steam library: mirrors edge, portal 1-2, Half-life, kerbal space, dota 1-2, dead space, etc.)

I think everyone's (or at least my) problem with the COD franchise is that it died in 2010 and IW/Treyarch kept rolling out the same repackaged corpse twice a year since then. MW2 was my favorite COD by far. Black Ops was pretty okay. MW3 and BO2 just gave me weird, unwanted feelings. Ghosts is on about the same level for me as Sonic 06. It's all the same game to me. Just getting progressively more ridiculous every installment.

To me call of duty died when they changed good old dedicated servers to ****** matchmaking. There is nothing good about it except you just click one and you play.
And I loved call of duty series. I played CoD UO [which is best, cod4 is second] for like 5 years. Awesome mods [on Cod UO there was best zombie mod I have ever played
]. And it was awesome because I played on servers I liked with people whom were good to play with.

Matchmaking is cancerous. I'm also saddened by the fact that I have known kids not much younger than myself (I'm 19) that genuinely think Modern Warfare was the first COD. I'll always cherish my memories of playing COD2 in the mornings before school.

matchmaking isn't cancerous. It is final form of cancer in fps games. Amount of cheaters I have met before playing mw3 in cod games is the amount of time I got laid. I played mw3 on free weekend on steam. Every single game had atleast 2 cheaters with invisibility, ultra speed and aim bot.

Also ubisoft matchmaking is kiling thier games. I bought GR:FS. Awesome tactical shooter. But matching with people from like half the globe away and thus having at least 300 ping on every single ****** game is as nice as being anal raped with broadsword.

that's why I still play Halo CE on my PC, servers, servers, servers!

you know, I think it would be all right if the developers just said " **** it" and made the most ridiculous, over-the-top shooter they could think of. just ignore rationality and the laws of physics and just aim for pure, unadulterated kickass.
User avatar #51 to #50 - wardenspectre (04/06/2014) [-]
I'd actually be pretty alright with that, if they recognized that it was ridiculous and didn't try to put it in a serious context

Do campaign or multiplayer from MW1 to Black ops 2 in the order they were released, and then you'll see why people think it sucks.
User avatar #4 to #2 - mrrandomness (04/05/2014) [-]
i know the similarity. Thats why i have one game. Black ops 2. its the only game ill play because if you have one you have them all.

CoD is not a bad game, buts its so generic that i would never play it, what separates it from other games?

I think people's problem with COD games stems more from their popularity if anything. That, and how the games don't really do much to set themselves apart from previous installments.

I don't consider COD games to be bad at all, really. Uninventive, maybe, but they're still tightly-made games with decent online and campaigns that, while not amazing, are serviceable enough.
User avatar #5 to #1 - mrrandomness (04/05/2014) [-]
i only have one cod game that i play and i doubt ill ever buy another because if you hvae one you have them all.

Is a comedian a good comedian if he tells the same jokes over and over? No, so why should a game franchise be called good if they release the same game over and over.
User avatar #43 to #40 - saiyajinwarrior (04/06/2014) [-]
I think people exaggerate how similar the COD games are to one another. Like I said, they don't really do much to set themselves apart from each other, but there are still clear differences in them.
User avatar #52 to #43 - Faz (04/06/2014) [-]
Cod multiplayer is exactly the same since cod 4, yes theres different kill streaks, yes theres different maps but there core of the game is the exact same, it wouldn't be so bad if it was a game each 2 years but a game a year makes the clone feeling way too high.
User avatar #45 to #1 - citruslord (04/06/2014) [-]
It's been going steadily downhill, mw3 and black ops were decent enough. At the worst were just repackaged games, nothing really original and just riding off of past success. The newest on however has major problems, atleast on PC. It lacks alot of optimization causing people who shouldn't have problems running it to have them. It lacks many standard options that a PC game should have, including advanced graphics options and field of view sliders and such. Most good indie games that are released have more options and run better than it, which is unacceptable coming from a AAA company.
TLR Ghosts on PC is a broken POS and the company blatantly refuses to fix many issues. It's not just COD either, even BF has started to lose quality. It has alot of problems with hitboxes not following geometry among other things

Infinity Ward Trilogy
CoD4: revolutionary graphics and gameplay, amazing story, character attachment, revolutionary MP mode
MW2: graphics disappointingly similar and lessened when in comparison to WaW interesting story with a plot twist, MP mode very similar but with updated and improved features
MW3: graphics diminished, ****** story with an absolutely horrible resolution, identical MP mode, no memorable moments or quotes. only redeeming quality was Spec Ops mode.

Treyarch Trilogy
WaW: improved graphics, but felt like just another ww2 game, weapon sounds were uninspiring, MP mode similar to CoD4 with not much being different, redeeming quality of being able to remove Nazi heads with machine guns and introduced Nazi Zombies
BO: graphics somewhat diminished from WaW in some ways but also improved in others, overall positives outweigh negatives graphically, great story with a plot twist, MP mode improved on MW2, further developed Zombie mode
BO2, amazing graphics for a CoD game, interesting look into future tech, interesting new feature of a changeable story line, but lacked a certain attachment to the overall story, MP mode again similar, black guy saying cocksucker in literally every scene with him, zombie modes were again developed further

tl;dr, CoD4, BO1, MW2, BO2, WaW, MW3

Yes, because comparing graphics from an older game is a total valid argument, not saying it was **** , it was good but it wasn't revolutionary.

i didnt use graphics to rate the game, only compare it to the others in its trilogy

Battlefields has been doing it longer. Maybe because they were a PC game originally and could release expansions as opposed to new games it was seemingly less prevalent.

It MIGHT be a good game if you wouldnt sooner or later needed to listen to some 9 year old claim to have ****** your mom or some guy who clearly got rage issues flip the **** out or have some asshole running about with the "no matter where you get hit you ded" knives only, needless to say the aimbot users and other ******** like to get flamed for using a shotgun instead of an assault rifle (whats a problem for me cause i really dont like assault rifles in shooters) or a griever who gets his kicks out of ruining the game for you or others. Its the minority of players... but they do make an impact, specially to me cause i tend to play games to relax and have fun. Im also not the "MLG" type of player..so you also get **** from your own team if stuff dont runs as good as it should . I do admit i enjoy to play the over the tops single play campains...cept ghosts.. that was really not a good campain, specially if compared to MW3.

I thought MW2 was the **** , don't get me wrong. I will still play it murder the **** out of everyone with quick scoping and a spas or dual glocks, but any installment after that was shoddy. Black Ops was crap, zombie mode was kinda fun, any game after that, crap on all levels. Zombies with giant ******* walking tanks skyscraper tall? Extinction? Same campaign ending four times in a row? NO, ******* , COOPERATIVE CAMPAIGN AFTER ALL THIS TIME? **** that **** .
User avatar #37 - ighostinthefogi (04/06/2014) [-]
Later cods have been rewarding for me, as a good player, until now. Cod 4 not so much... just a chopper as a kill streak. Meh. Same with WaW. But, MW2, a game winning nuke?! A backpacker's wet dream. Too bad that died with that game. I enjoyed it. But, the following kill streaks were rewarding enough, as you got to kill even more people. Idiots complain about people not going after objective and just killing on objective game types. But, when you can keep an entire team in their spawn by killing them, you can win any game, objective or not. This is how it's been for me until now with Ghosts. I get no reward for doing well. Odin's are just aweful, helo pilots are decent but that's it. Kem's don't do crap, heck, people get them in care-packages... They also took away my favorite style of gun, a laser with moderate damage... I loved the ACR... I miss it too.

tl;dr: Agreed, except for Ghosts.

acr is a no recoil noob wep, try using the ak instead and you'll have slight more difficulty.

My only real issue is always with connection. Everyone was super excited about Titanfall but the gunfights are horrid and extremely one sided. Who ever carries the Carbine wins. Throwing down in titans is okay, but you really just kinda sit there and take shots, there's no real ducking and weaving. Cod has the opposite effect, the game play is extremely fast. Millisecond fast. I hate that I lost gunfights because my ping was a little higher than my opponents. IMO cod is almost too fast paced. I love the hell out of some Halo though. Regular gameplay is fun, where skill matters since the time to kill is longer and you actually have to aim to get a kill. The only time connection became an issue was, in my experience, back in Halo 3 with ranked 50's, when a bullet or two not getting detected meant you lost a BR battle. Other than that, I rather enjoy Cod and Halo.

tl;dr: Lag SUCKS though.
User avatar #33 - bluenebula (04/06/2014) [-]
I like the story mode's for most of them. I don't play online. It's amazing how much better a game gets when you don't play with humans.
#30 - snakefire (04/06/2014) [-]
I dislike the movement mechanics and I feel its a tad clunky.

I also really like how you can customize your weapons but besides that I really don't like the game.

The campaigns are terrible single path movies of stories, the company pumps out new games every year or so with no real changes, they buy reviews and overcharge, ect ect.

If they took one and kept patching and updating it like some games do rather than pumping out new ones with 5 hour long campaigns, some new maps and guns, and nothing more I would gain a lot of respect.
User avatar #28 - PVTDickStryker (04/06/2014) [-]
What I dislike about it is that two games popularized it into a full-blown series with yearly titles at stunted innovation, while truly unique games of the same genre fade into obscurity. Tribes: Ascend, Planetside, Dust 514, there are plenty of MMOFPSs that have something new to offer the gaming world as a whole, yet every big reviewer and ignorant child calls the next CoD game of the year, despite the fact that it's addition to the series, let alone the genre, is negligible.

tl;dr It's time to leave the spotlight is long overdue, it's just hurting the genre.
#25 - anon (04/06/2014) [-]
last good one in terms of game quality was MW2

after that they all went to **** except Treyarch's campaigns
