How to spot the high guy. he probably thinks mayonayes is an instrument.. Actually, as a member of the OU band, we get boxed lunches in the third quarter, and we take turns eating. Just a time to get put on camera, lol

Why do your horn angles suck so bad?
#4 to #3 - gooshnoggen (08/07/2014) [-]
Bruh, it is stand tunes. (plus, I played sax. **** that)
User avatar #5 to #4 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (08/07/2014) [-]
What, is the trombone section invisible while it's in the stands or something?

So am I being unfair or something?
#8 to #7 - gooshnoggen (08/07/2014) [-]
Nope, just accusing someone who has no control of the matter.
User avatar #9 to #8 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (08/07/2014) [-]
You downplayed it pretty well by passing it off as stand tunes. Tell me, if someone from a different section was out of step would you just continue to let them be out of step because they aren't from your section?
#12 to #9 - insaneguy (08/07/2014) [-]
so... as a former marching band-er. you're not being unfair, but when the band's doing stand tunes the stadium's eyes are generally not on them- they're on the game being played. Adding to that that the band isn't moving at all, nobody's looking at them, and they're not getting graded on anything... it really doesn't matter where their angles are at. Sure, it looks better if they put them up, but in the long run it doesn't really matter at all. Just how good they sound

cheer up. here's a mexican cat drinking cuervo.
User avatar #13 to #12 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (08/07/2014) [-]
Everything you stated makes sense. However, for the most part the crowd wouldn't notice if the band looked good and were doing everything right, but definitely notice when they're doing things poorly. Also, when you aim a trombone at the back of the person in front of you it doesn't help the sound project to the football stadium you're trying to fill with sound.
User avatar #18 to #13 - ispn (08/07/2014) [-]
Really, if any marching band instructor gives any ***** about horn angles during stand tunes (Outside of the standard keeping it at a good level) is insane..... More insane than they should be. The horns are pointed down because, you guessed it, there is still someone conducting on the lower level of the stands, Trombones being a brass instrument is placed further back and higher up, so they have to look down a bit to keep a good eye on the conductor.
User avatar #21 to #18 - SteyrAUG ONLINE (08/07/2014) [-]
That's funny, I never had any trouble seeing my band director from the back when I played trombone in marching band. I managed to keep my horn up too. And yes, it is a little insane, but you don't get really good without some drive.
User avatar #24 to #21 - ispn (08/07/2014) [-]
I played Marimba in Pitt, so I was always on the field, but they had me running training for the winds and some brass teaching them how to keep time while marching in their first year. I never really was in the stands and that was what our director told us

Friend, in a 300 piece band where you hold no rank of any kind, it is a bit rude and out of line to criticize another section. I feel like you are venting at me some frustrations you have had in the past. Please, continue.

I got stationed here in april, it's not as bad as I thought it was, but it's definitely not the beach side I'm used too.
User avatar #17 to #16 - ispn (08/07/2014) [-]
Tinker? And hell no it is no beach side, but if you're ever looking for stuff to do there is quite a bit it just isn't advertised to much.

Yessir, me and my buds have been out and about, looking to check out some hiking trails or biking trails in the near future. Went to Turner Falls a few weeks back, kinda disappointed haha
User avatar #20 to #19 - ispn (08/07/2014) [-]
If you have some off time, go out to Wichita, its a good 100 square miles, or right down the road is Rose state, and you could probably get laid pretty easily down there
User avatar #22 to #20 - PvtToucher (08/07/2014) [-]
Yea? We'll have to check it out then.. Thanks bud! Since you seem to know the good places, I've got another question, any good tattoo parlors? I'm looking to get a half sleeve done and I don't know many people from this area haha
User avatar #23 to #22 - ispn (08/07/2014) [-]
Well first question here is of course, price range. I could tell you the best place, but it is expensive. But there is a pretty good spot, cheaper, but not as good.
User avatar #26 to #23 - PvtToucher (08/07/2014) [-]
I'd rather have quality truthfully, but I can check both places out!
User avatar #29 to #26 - ispn (08/07/2014) [-]
Well for quality hit up atomic lotus, 409 NW 23rd St, Oklahoma City, OK 73103 good work
Daddy Kong's is pretty decent, mixed reviews though 12236 NE 23rd St, Nicoma Park, OK 73020

Also, if you're bored and looking for something to do on Wednesdays there is Robotic Wednesday opens 10p.m. it is a small place, but it is something to do for 10 bucks
User avatar #31 to #29 - PvtToucher (08/07/2014) [-]
I was looking at atomic online! cool cool, thanks bud! and Robotic Wednesday? huh, sounds interesting! Really appreciate it bud!

How often are tornadoes there?
User avatar #27 to #25 - PvtToucher (08/07/2014) [-]
I've only been here a few months, haven't experienced one yet, last year ( i think) though they had two F5's hit
User avatar #30 to #27 - amusicalgardevoir (08/07/2014) [-]
Oh, here in Texas I've never seen one. though I've been in many tornado warnings and watches all of my life... lol
User avatar #32 to #30 - PvtToucher (08/07/2014) [-]
we had a warning in the middle of the night when I first got here, but that's about it. and Texas? cool, I was there last august/october, not a fan of that heat haha
User avatar #51 to #25 - violenthandjob (08/08/2014) [-]
Like the other anon said it's been oddly calm tornado wise this year. It's been cooler and dryer here than usual so that helped a bit.

We've had a lot of close calls where I live. Some have been within a mile. Scary **** . Eventually though, you reach a point that when the sirens go off, you stand outside and look for it.
