If I built a castle, it would look like this.
User avatar #51 to #19 - SimpleSimpleton (12/13/2013) [-]
that looks like a start to some sort of ungerground labyrinth or something...

Near where I live theres a man named Jim Bishop. In 1969 he began construction on a cottage for his family, which he randomly decided to surround with rocks. Several pedestrians commented that it was starting to look like a castle. So naturally Bishop, over the course of time since then and currently, has completely by hand built a 3 story castle complete with 2 towers, and an iron dragon head that actually breathes fire. All the stone work and welding has been done completely by him, he built his own crane from fallen trees with rocks as counter weights. Recently he has begun digging a trench around the site which he plans on making into a full scale moat.

You can find "Bishop's Castle" just past Rye Colorado, USA. I used to live there, and we'd take a weekly trip up to listen to the crazy rantings of Bishop. This guy has some serious mental breakdowns, 10/10 would suggest for bucket list.

Don't go onto the ironworks if you're afraid of heights though, particularly the ball (it ******* wobbles in the wind, god only knows why I did it).

Otherwise it was pretty cool.

Like they'd construct a castle anywhere, but with hauling everything up there first, just like any other building on a mountain. Must've been a pain, and quite dangerous too. Likely some work at making some stable flat foundation for the main part. I dunno. Google it

My dream house is medium on the 'Murican scale sized house designed to look like a castle set on top of a hill, preferably in woodland.

I'm probably never going to get to live in a house like it but dang does it look good in my dreams.

It's not as hard as you'd think, if you plan it right and keep diligent. Buy land, live cheap on said land, work for money, build in spare time. Get lots of beer on weekends and invite friends to building party. Pay special attention to heating (water carried floor heating), insulation and plumbing. I'll bet you can buld a nice 5-7 room castle for less than it costs to buy a regular house. Don't forget to plan a gothic dungeon-style home theatre in the basement, without windows but with a well-stocked bar
