Anyone can kill an immortal, the quickening will either seek out the nearest immortal or be wasted, depending on movie or TV rules.

I haven't seen any movie or series depart from the rule. The rule is consistent. If there is an immortal nearby, he receives the quickening. If there isn't, it's wasted. On a side note, for everyone calling them highlanders: highlander doesn't mean immortal. They call him highlander because he's from the highlands of Scotland. Most immortals are not highlanders.

I could have sworn that some mortal became immortal inadvertently from killing an immortal on the tv show. But it has been a long time since I watched it, a very long time, sucks being an immortal.

I watched the series 6 times. No one became an immortal because he killed an immortal. Whoever you're thinking of probably was marked to be immortal all along, and died while killing the immortal, triggering his immortality. Horton and his gang of no-good watchers were all mortal, and they went around killing immortals left and right. None of them became immortal (except maybe the guy you're thinking of).

Wouldn't it ******* suck to live a peaceful, long, life and finally have a heart attack in your sleep when you're 80-something? You'd wake up the next morning, not realising what happened, but everyone around you would age and die while you remained feeble and slow for all eternity. You'd almost look forward to getting decapitated after a century or three of that.

Luckily that doesn't happen. If a person has the capacity to become immortal and doesn't die a violent death (anything that isn't being killed by another person) they just die normally.

Mortals can indeed truly kill immortals in Highlander. They can cut off or destroy the immortals head and the quickening occurs but the power just seems to flash out and go up into the sky.

It seems that if a mortal is about to truly kill an immortal other immortals within a certain range could draw in the power of the dying immortal, even though the kill was done by a mortal or by accident or whatever. I don't know whether multiple immortals could draw in the energy or whether the closest or strongest would get it.

I know that happened in one of the tv shows, the one with the female Immortal and a hugh mann cop, cop dude killed an Immortal and the lightning went to the lady.

Nah, immortals could be beheaded by mortals, but no one would receive the Quickening. Highlander was mostly a case of "making it up as you go along" so there's no certain answer for a lot of things, but immortals could be killed by beheading by anyone.

Movie is Highlander: Search for Vengeance. Movie is Okay. It's not as good as the original, but it's still miles better than Highlander 2 or any of the other sequels. It's inoffensive at best.
