just because they've been sad or upset at a few points in their lives doesn't mean they aren't happy all together. Of course they've had some hard times, that's just life, but both characters are still living happy lives. Being happy isn't just smiling 24/7 and having everything always go your way, that's just weird and unrealistic

You people are so butt hurt about luffys character about being an idiot which the author made him to be. I've been a fan with the series up to the 2 year gap arc where they all trained and I completely lost all interest with the series on how shallow they made luffy is and putting character after character on how depressing their lives are and island after island where they just run around in circles and beat the crap out of everyone. The show keeps going downhill after that when I just saw the extra jugs on nami and robin. It's not even funny anymore.

Some people actually have the ability to move on you know... my mom died when I was 14 and while my brother still hasn't gotten over it, I got over it in a couple of weeks. Life is 10% what actually happens to you, and 90% your reaction to it.

You know what I really miss about superheros. Before The Dark knight films and Watchman (don't get me wrong they're both spectacular) Superheros had their fair share of brooding and sadness but they also exhibited other emotions like, you know happiness and joy.
Seriously this is why I hated man of steel. They took a super positive boy scout of a superhero and turned him into a brooding psycho killer. I know superman has been written dark and brooding before in comics I'm just sick the dark and brooding archetype when there is so much more to characters than being sad.

You have a point,
I do not think Iron man is a good example but there is certainly a trend in making heroes more dark.
User avatar #55 to #53 - thefasrdog ONLINE (06/29/2014) [-]
I agree. I probably should have added that marvel does pretty well. DC is the one who mainly does this.
User avatar #57 to #55 - kennyh (06/29/2014) [-]
It is hard for them not to try to capitalize on the success of one of the darker heroes, batman.
He is probably the most liked heros with the biggest fanbase so the result is that they make the "batman" version of all of the heroes. Darker, more brooding, emphasis on the past.

The result as that the heroes are starting to seem the same, instead of the great diversity between characters that there used to be.
#81 to #42 - jewbob (06/29/2014) [-]
If they're actually setting up for a Justice League movie there'd have to be one for the Flash, I think that would be a pretty good combo breaker.

Seeing this picture makes me wonder why they dropped the whole "Luchador" thing for Bane in the dark knight movie. I mean, they could have made it work... right?

they're actually makeing a flash TV series, by the same ppl that did arrow....apparently all that will tie in with the JL movie
User avatar #83 to #81 - thefasrdog ONLINE (06/29/2014) [-]
Maybe. I think it depends on what Flash they use. Same goes for GL. Something tells me they won't use Hal Jordan...
User avatar #86 to #83 - jewbob (06/29/2014) [-]
Assuming they keep Batfleck and the current Superman it would be a nice contrast if they went with a few of the lighter heroes. They managed to make Spiderman some ****** pseudo-dark for the middle of 3 though.
User avatar #89 to #42 - metajunky (06/29/2014) [-]
I didn't think Superman was all that brooding, after hearing everyone tell me he was in Man of Steel. There were quite a few times were Clark showed he was compassionate and had a decent sense of humor. Then there is the time when he started flying, where he shows almost child-like joy

As for the fight with Zod, can't really blame Clark for that. It was a small army of Kryptonians with the same powers as him, but with better training. All things considered, Clark did an amazing job, only losing a few city blocks and thousands of lives compared to billions and all other species on Earth too

And yea, I don't like how Clark was forced to kill Zod either. Even if it was a seemingly impossible decision not to do so, since Zod was not going to stop until humanity was destroyed, Superman is about succeeding in the face of those kinds of odds anyway. That is one of the main points of his character

It would have been better if they went into detail about how Superman learned from killing Zod that A) that is not the kind of hero he wants to be and B) that he needs to develop he abilities more in order to prevent the kind of destruction Zod caused from happening again. Hopefully they address that in the sequel

I'd say he mans (hobbits?) the **** up around the time he picks up the ring, and his life was great before and after that regardless of his journey, which was always his favorite memory.
User avatar #80 to #78 - habanaro (06/29/2014) [-]

Don Shipley from Buds131 (YouTube Channel), Richard Machowicz (Mac from Future Weapons, and of course Demo Dick Marcinko, creator of SEAL Team 6 and Red Cell. All U.S. Navy SEALs, all happy as hell individuals.

Real heroes usually aren't as ******* tragic as the media makes them out to be. Sure it's hard as **** , but you could hear laughter and joking even in the BUD/S Class 234 videos on YouTube. I've personally met many SEALs and Marine Recon troops (watch/read Generation Kill and try not to laugh at some of the humor they make IN COMBAT), and even Army Rangers and such. On Chinhae Naval base in South Korea, we had the Republic of Korea SEAL training base right next door, so they were always training with our SEALs. Both types of SEALs were always around, and I met plant of special forces guys while I was in Oklahoma on Tinker Air Force Base. While I was there around late 2008-early 2009 The Marine Recon FAST Troops came down and trained us in Marine Corps Martial Arts and other forms of combat training. They were all laid back, funny as **** guys.

Real heroes aren't these horrendously tragic people. They've been through the worst so they're usually confident guys who know how to make comedy out of their ****** situations and find what's funny about nearly dying because your parachute won't open (opening chapter, "Rogue Warrior") or blowing up an Iraqi tank and not being able to hear **** for a while after that (late in the book, "Generation Kill") or just how they're glad they're not in training no matter how bad it gets in combat (the whole book almost, "Men in Green Faces").

Be a real hero. Sign up for the military, SWAT, police or whatever. If you think you won't be happy, you're dead wrong. Special Forces guys are some of the happiest people I've ever met in my life.

Picture related. That's me with a Marine Recon FAST guy instructing me on how to get him in an arm bar. He kept telling me to increase the pressure, but I didn't want to hurt the guy.
