I have to say that I agree, this was a bad move by Trump. I don't understand why American presidents think they can just decide something and then the rest of the world has to oblige to their requests. Most countries will probably remain undecided on that matter for years to come.

That said, quit acting like the Obama didn't screw the middle east 10 times worse.

He didn’t decide anything for the rest of the world. He just made it clear the official position of the US government. Hell, he didn’t even decide anything for the US. The US senate did six months ago when they voted UNANIMOUSLY to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and move the US embassy there. In fact, every president in the last 20 years, regardless of party, promised to do what Trump just did. He’s just the only one to keep that promise. He got elected, in part, by making this promise. He had a mandate from the American people to do it. It doesn’t force the rest of the world to do anything!

Tel Aviv is the official capital of Israel.

Jerusalem is a shared city between the Israelis and the Palestinians under the UN.

The U.S announced today that Jerusalem will be Israel's new capital, insinuating to the Palestinians and the world that there will be no two state solution for peace and that Israel will continue to encroach on Palestinian territory till the land is fully under the Jewish state.

Basically, this is the cherry on top for aggravated Muslims who are already seeing much turmoil within their countries. To hear that the U.S will fully hand the Holy City to Israel will be the exact excuse extremists need to carry their revenge.

If Israel owns all of the territory of Jerusalem, and claim it to be their capital shouldn't it be recognized internationally as their capital?

Maybe it is a bad foreign policy move, but it seems dumb for the world to not acknowledge it.

The fact that Palestinian territory is being built over by illegal Israeli settlements is one main issue. Palestinians are fighting to get statehood constantly, but the UN can't do much since the U.S vetoes any acts against Israel.

To save face on the world stage and not look completely bias, the U.S would never announce that Jerusalem is the capital.

Okay so, in short, Jerusalem is the holy city of Jews, Muslims and Christians and they all feel they have a claim on the city. To add, in 1948 the Israeli's conquered the western part of Jerusalem and named it their capital, all the while Jordan owned the eastern half and also called it their capital. In 1967 the Israeli's conquered the eastern part of Jerusalem as well.

There is much more going on that causes friction with Jerusalem, and because of all the things going on, the UN has named Tel Aviv to be the internationaly accepted capital of Israel, to avoid tensions.

that's completely false, and let me tell you why. Jerusalem is completely insignificant to Islam. It is never once mentioned in the quran. It is only significant because they don't have it and the Jews do. That's the only reason. Mecca is the holiest city of Islam. Jerusalem and the mosque they built over the temple mount is just a symbol of muslim conquest.

East Jerusalem was recognized as the capital of Israel even before the 60s, Trump is just acknowledging that fact. And doing this does not cut off the opportunity for a two-state solution, but I guess imgur has already told you what to think so here we go
