Most religious people do.

I have never had someone religious try to force their beleifs on me.
And I have plenty of religious friends.

whell...that depends...do you live in a country where it is legal to fire a gun inside of your property?
I dont.
User avatar #73 to #72 - therealsuperderpy (10/18/2013) [-]
No I don't.

When you have certain beliefs that can affect certain laws (i.e so many people are against gay marriage, because of their certain religious belief) they don't really mind their own business.

Obviously I'm not saying this applies to all religious people.
#33 to #5 - stalini (10/18/2013) [-]
Why do people always connect opposing gay marriage to religion?

Most of the people from soviet union were atheists, yet all of them hated gays
#71 to #33 - chudboy (10/18/2013) [-]
You obviously missed what I said "Obviously I'm not saying this applies to all religious people."

Of course people who aren't religious at all disagree and oppose gay marriage too. But Religion has the stronger hand, especially in America, where it influences laws.
User avatar #36 to #33 - therealsuperderpy (10/18/2013) [-]
Because the only historic group to say gay is wrong were religious people.
Everyone thought it was okay.
#38 to #36 - stalini (10/18/2013) [-]
Also Soviet Union was officially atheistic, they hated all religions but hated homosexuals too.

They're not an ancient group of people.

They are a historic group though.
#37 to #36 - stalini (10/18/2013) [-]
Who the **** told you that?

Even the ancient Athens had a law that if someone was gay they'd kick him out of the town.

And Athenians are perceived to be the most homo people in the ancient world.

No one ever liked homosexuals.

until now, of course.
User avatar #39 to #37 - therealsuperderpy (10/18/2013) [-]
Dude ancient Greece had no problems with gays.
They thought it was okay.
The thing is that if you were a man and being dominated by another man you were looked down upon.

God damn it dude, I gave you a ******* law which proves the otherwise, you can google it and see yourself.

Because I make logical conclusion and people don't like it when it goes against their imagination? I know it.

I wonder how do you even think "There's a thing which is a fact and proves I'm wrong, but who cares"
#47 to #46 - stalini (10/18/2013) [-]
Homosexual acts existed and tolerated, but homosexuals were banned from the city.

Is that so hard to understand?
User avatar #49 to #47 - therealsuperderpy (10/18/2013) [-]
No where does it say that.
I don't understand where you are getting this.
Nobles and high ranking generals were gay and no one cared as long as they were to dominant partner.
Stop just taking random ******** as fact.
#53 to #49 - stalini (10/18/2013) [-]
I've read it and no where it gives a proven examples of high ranking nobles or generals being homosexuals.

When people say homosexuality in Greece was accepted, what they really mean is that there was this "master-boy" relationship, when older man taught young boys some things and also ********** them. That makes them bisexuals at max.

Which noble and high ranking generals are you talking about?
ALso, prove that they were homosexuals and not bisexuals.

stallnl just shut your ******* mouth, there's no place in the world for people like you, just accept people for who they are and try to love them. if you can't say anything nice then shut the **** up. it's as simple as that. the world is changing and we're all a part of it. either join or be left by the wayside you simpleton **** .

But that's the teachings of their religion.
It more or less set the basis or what's right and wrong in our society.
I'm gay myself and I respect the fact that they're against gay marriage because they've been taught that way for thousands of years.
User avatar #62 to #6 - rifee (10/18/2013) [-]
Don't you mean "accept"?

I find it hard to believe someone would respect it. Accept it, or rather tollerate it, I can somewhat understand.
User avatar #66 to #62 - therealsuperderpy (10/18/2013) [-]
I mean I can respect the fact that they follow they've been taught.
I just see things the way they are and I'm fine with it.

i feel for you man, don't be submissive to people that hate you for who you are, be yourself and **** what they say. they aren't following the teachings properly, no religion should teach hatred, love and acceptance that's all anyone needs.

I'm Christian, I don't think it's right to actively identify as gay and all, but I don't try to stop people from it. I understand it's a hormonal thing they don't choose. But it's the same as any other sexual impurity in my opinion.

I also believe that the government should change it so a civil union has all the same benefits of marriage (tax rates, being recognized as a married couple, etc), without the religious aspects of it, then bigots can't complain about the "sanctity of marriage" being 'tainted' by gay dudes putting rings on each other and saying hubby. Then everybody's happy except the bigots. **** those guys.

Oh, and also making it so gay marriages (as well as aforementioned civil unions) are recognized on a federal level. As long as you find a pastor who's cool with it, I'm fine with it.

Hey man, just because my religious views are one thing, doesn't mean I have the right to stop you from pursuing happiness. That's a right everybody has, yet we don't let some pursue it.
User avatar #13 to #12 - beren (10/18/2013) [-]
Ditto about your gay marriage opinion here. I personally disapprove but think that if people want to do it they should be allowed to by the government (particularly since, in the U.S., the people should have their way, as it is a democratic republic). If a person's decision to do something I disapprove of doesn't actually affect other people in a negative way, let them have it.

Jesus disapproved of a lot of things going on around Him but He wasn't a political activist. If you want to reform people, you can't force something on them; you need to change their hearts.

Anyway, there is my opinion, since I know you all wanted it.
User avatar #52 to #13 - commontroll (10/18/2013) [-]
Totally dude. It's not my job to make people do things I agree with. Otherwise I'd be fired. We're just supposed to love people. I don't see why so many people find it so hard to do.
#7 to #6 - chudboy (10/18/2013) [-]
And societies change. Religion shouldn't dictate whats right or wrong, IN today's world.

Morality can come from different aspects, not just religion (if you're going to bring the old "well religion gives us morals").

Religions have adapted and change to other things, why not this aspect?(Don't forget that religions have even changed their texts. Old testament to new testament.) Even if there's sufficient evidence showing that being gay is not a choice, and that its shown in other animals? So it shows that it's not a bad thing.
