All right, so about TranscribeMe: they have courses and a test that you need to take before you start working; and let me tell you, I thought I was a great typer, but that test kicked my ass.
Only 4 tries left, here we go

I did fine on my native language, had fun at it too, and it's harder than english imo thanks to punctuation and whatnot, i'm hopping onto the English one soon enough.

I take it all back kill me now

User avatar #2 - hightechlowlife ONLINE (08/26/2015) [-]
Thanks for this, man. Probably gonna check out TranscribeMe. Any advice?
User avatar #6 to #2 - redclover [OP](08/26/2015) [-]
Pay really close attention to their instructions.
TranscribeMe requires you to pass a test before they let you accept any work. You have 5 attempts to take this test, of which it took me 3 to pass, because they specifically choose clips of audio that encompass all their guidelines to make sure you will provide quality work.
Always read the guidelines provided by the employer, each audio clip is different and they may want you to remove "uhh"s, "um"s, and repeated words from people's speech.

I also recommend taking on short audio clips while you're getting the hang of it. Transcribe some 1-5 minute presentations rather than 2 hour speeches. You get paid for the total audio time, so 2 hours worth of 3 minute clips is still the same as 2 continuous hours.

If listening to the same section of an audio clip over and over is something that would get you frustrated, it's not for you.

Is it possible to work at your own pace? Like say if you weren't frustrated having to repeat audio segments several times?

Or if you aren't skilled enough, stay away?
User avatar #18 to #16 - redclover [OP](08/27/2015) [-]
Most companies give you a 48-hour turn around on the audio.
So you have 2 days to complete anything they give you.

"a 48 turn around on the audio"

I don't quite understand. Are you saying you will have 2 days to finish the deadline? Or are you saying the 48 hours is your turn to work the audio, and you get paid for what you complete?
User avatar #21 to #20 - redclover [OP](08/27/2015) [-]
When you accept work from someone on the site, they usually give you 48 hours to complete it. Some companies will pay more for faster work if they need it sooner.
Not completing work before your deadline gives you a bad score and will discourage companies from hiring you.
User avatar #22 to #21 - severepwner (08/27/2015) [-]
Ok so it's a deadline.

How much audio do companies usually want you to complete in 2 days? Of course I doubt it's always 2 days, but what do you think?
User avatar #23 to #22 - redclover [OP](08/27/2015) [-]
Depends on what they need.
Sometimes the clip is 2 minutes long, sometimes it's 2 hours long.
Like I said in the post, I work TranscribeMe in my off time at my regular job.
I usually take on multiple audio clips that range anywhere from 3 to 20 minutes, and work for 1 or 2 hours. I make about $20 a day, which doesn't seem like much, but it's just for extra revenue. And it comes out to $100-$140 a week of extra money in my pocket just for sacrificing a little spare time that I was gonna spend on my computer anyway.
User avatar #26 to #23 - severepwner (08/27/2015) [-]
Ok. Was just trying to weigh in the amount of work, and the amount of time I would be given.

I wouldn't want to drive myself crazy over this.

you're a helpful ************ and I love you a lot
User avatar #7 to #6 - hightechlowlife ONLINE (08/26/2015) [-]
Good to know. Thanks. I love listening to people speak, so there's little chance I'll get frustrated or irritated by hearing the same clip over and over.

I have advice: be really careful what you step into, because this could absolutely be a scam.
User avatar #8 to #3 - redclover [OP](08/26/2015) [-]
This.
I realize it probably looks bad for OP to say this, but there are a lot of scams out there.
Check out the links I posted, as well as any that other users post at your own discretion.

I'll check out links they respond to the sticky with and delete any obvious scams, but be wary of anything that seems to good to be true.
User avatar #9 to #8 - unhealthy (08/26/2015) [-]
You missed a comma there. TranscribeMe would kill you for this.
#34 to #8 - slobiscuit (08/27/2015) [-]
**slobiscuit used "*roll picture*"**
**slobiscuit rolled image**oh god. what a scam. they are getting us speaking for 20 min or more. much is lost. food is scarce. money is low.

what else are they getting from you other than your email?
User avatar #4 to #3 - hightechlowlife ONLINE (08/26/2015) [-]
Will do. If anything seems too fishy I'll probably just drop it and try to go back to finding a real job.
User avatar #5 to #4 - unhealthy (08/26/2015) [-]
Exactly like me.
I've seen scams that looked extremely legit, but I really want this one to be true; if it is however, there will be competition. Typing internet comments 12 hours a day really trains your keyboard skills.

I'm opposed to having a job. I have a fear of making too much money and accidentally coming in possession of a $100 bill.
#17 to #12 - inediblefetus (08/27/2015) [-]
so make the money and then donate it to me. problem solved

Does these work outside US?

You have no idea how thankful I am for this post. I promise I'll use this to acquire uhh... school stuff.... and things..
User avatar #27 to #24 - redclover [OP](08/27/2015) [-]
If you're looking for the easiest route for some spare cash, like for hobbies and stuff, I suggest UserTesting over TranscribeMe.
While TranscribeMe does pay more, you have to pass a very vigorous test in order to even take on any work. And listening to the same audio over and over can be monotonous.
UserTesting has 2 very simple tests that take less than 5 minutes combined to complete before you start taking work, and I forgot to mention in the post that they also give you surveys from time-to-time and companies may hire you for a week-long test and pay $50-$100 for you to test an app casually over the course of a week. You can accept these tests and still do others in-between.
User avatar #28 - stimtheone (08/27/2015) [-]
TOO LATE.

I'm browsing funnyjunk at work right now.
User avatar #31 - derpish (08/27/2015) [-]
wouldnt it be possible to get something that takes notes from voice command? like how you ask siri to google something, isnt there something out there that does that? caaaauuuuse yeah. profit
User avatar #32 to #31 - redclover [OP](08/27/2015) [-]
I'm sure you could if you were lucky enough to get very clear audio
but most of what you work with is low-quality and often has inaudible patches
you'd spend just as much time correcting the mistakes as you would listening and typing it yourself
User avatar #33 to #31 - unhealthy (08/27/2015) [-]
It's not efficient at all, not even for clear audio. Trust me, they would if they could
User avatar #30 - dudenectar (08/27/2015) [-]
Considering I'm heading into college soon, having a job that I can do at home would be really ******* handy
