Holy **** these kinds of posts really sicken me, I have no idea how being gay feels like so sorry if I say something wrong. what the **** , man? just because certain people who are intelligent enough to accept homosexuality choose to ignore it, doesn't mean everyone is so open to it. some people will make fun of you, beat you up or even kill you for being gay. its still considered taboo in certain places, if we stop talking about it, stop promoting it enough people won't come out and it will not be considered okay, and we will not move forward. in my personal opinion we should keep promoting gays until major population accepts them. just like when black people weren't respected, when they passed the law against black discrimination there still were some people uncivilized enough to hate on them! just because some people thought they should have had same rights, not everyone agreed, so yeah there will always be people holding us back but what it all comes down to is how you raise your children.
TL;DR - promoting gays should still go on, because only a fragment of the world accepts them

Though it should not be an issue, it is. A lot of people are not accepting of homosexuals. By showing these athletes, they create an initial culture shock. Others will come out as well, until they are a common part of professional sports. As they become common, people will begin to be more accepting of them. Eventually it will bother very few people. It is hard to hate someone when they help your team have a great season, especially if they contribute a lot to winning a championship. Same thing happened with African-American athletes in the 40's and 50's.

tl;dr
Sports are very influential, and the hype will help make them seem more common, and will cause people to be more accepting. Basically the same thing happened with black athletes as well.

Over 200 thumbs.
Wow, what an unpopular opinion.

You're such a unique and thoughtful individual.

He is an attention whore, looking for a higher spot on the draft. He is a great player and would of been picked regardless but now is using his sexual orientation to get one higher. What a faggot.
User avatar #44 to #38 - misterbonzo (02/12/2014) [-]
probably not. odds are his draft stock will decrease, as a gay player on the team would be a "distraction"

im sick of gay's getting parades just because they **** people of the same gender.

Has anyone ever looked at all the men dressed like faggots, and all the dykes, and said "wow, this made me really respect gays and their struggles, we should give them equal rights?"

no, i see it and think "THIS **** right here is why people don't want you raising kids"

You see grown ass men in thongs and **** , idc what the **** you do in your home or who you **** , but i can't just go running around parades in my underwear and dance to random music because i'll be arrested, but they have an ENTIRE PARADE dedicated to just that!

/rant over.

I'm getting sick and ******* tired of this "gays are bad", "gays are good", "gays should get attention" crap. We are all the same. We're Humans with souls. The last ******* thing anybody besides your parents and yourself should be concerned about is your sexuality and sexual interests. Seriously. I don't think there's anything more private than your sexuality besides your actual private parts. Who the **** cares if that one guy across the street is a homo, or if Suzy down the road is a lezbo, that's their God damn business and nobody should ever care.
So if this is true and right now gay athletes are getting attention for being gay, then I've about had it with this world.

Not really... I say maybe a few more decades. It's only recently becoming accepted...ish...

I love how people ignore legitimate modern issues on this site. Yes, I agree it shouldn't be a big deal, but when entire countries exist that are willing to alienate their gay citizens, I think it needs to be shown.
User avatar #43 - misterbonzo (02/12/2014) [-]
they make a big deal out of it because openly gay men are very very uncommon in American professional sports- this Sam guy would be the first in the NFL, Jason Collins is the only one in the NBA, and there has never been one in the MLB or NHL. some athletes wouldn't readily accept a gay teammate, partially because it's so uncommon that they don't really understand gay people and would feel uncomfortable (they'd think their gay teammate would be ogling them in the locker room, etc.). but i agree, it shouldn't be a big deal. given the number of people in a major sports league, nearly every athlete in major american pro sports has a gay teammate, they just might not know it yet.

it should be like
"well congrats, have fun being an athlete"
User avatar #89 - ubisoft (02/12/2014) [-]
Well there is a problem. Half of the athletes are fine with it and half of the others are not. It's like they don't want to get publicly noticed just for having a gay guy on their team.
#87 - anonymous (02/12/2014) [-]
Pretty much nobody does care. Nobody (except people who want to celebrate gay athletes) asks athletes if they're gay. I don't think I've ever wished I knew more about an athletes sex life.

I'm sick of these opinions. What's the point of saying it if you have no plans on attempting to change things for the better. It just sounds like a bunch of bitching in text with some penguin/tucan (idk what that animal is but it's adorable) in the background. I thought memes on a site called "funnyjunk" were meant to be funny.
