Daily reminder that most of the elite Taliban were trained by the CIA to fight the Russians.
#79 to #37 - John Cena (08/30/2014) [-]
Where can I read more about that?..
#81 to #79 - dehumanizer (08/30/2014) [-]
My best advice would be to do your own research and try to be unbiased. Pic related, an old newspaper about a great freedom fighter.
User avatar #56 to #37 - ishalltroll (08/30/2014) [-]
"most of the elite taliban"
Most of the original Mujahideen are not part of the Taliban. The Taliban are sort of an extremist islamic group that wants to implement sharia-law, the Muj were essentially freedom fighters.
#61 to #56 - dehumanizer (08/30/2014) [-]
The guys fighting NATO are the same freedom fighters who fought USSR, a good example is old Osama. Or are you the one who decides what "freedom" they should have?
User avatar #65 to #61 - ishalltroll (08/30/2014) [-]
Muj ≠ Taliban, I can't stress that enough. And OBL isn't Taliban.

Right next thing you'll tell me that NATO wasnt involved in the arab spring.
User avatar #94 to #92 - gatorade (08/30/2014) [-]
If you can tell me how they were and bring me sources that prove your position then I'll say that NATO did have a part in it.

But right now, no.. NATO did not have a part in starting the Arab Spring.
#110 to #94 - dehumanizer (08/30/2014) [-]
Take Ghaddafi he took an african nomadic country and brought it up to a western european standart. He was"Great Ally" to the west untill he wanted to create an african gold currency and basicly screw over, NATO. Then Suddenly a civil war happened. Eventualy there were even French bombings in Lybia. Hell ofcourse the CIA was behind it, they were in Afghanistan, south america, east asia - you name it.
User avatar #112 to #110 - gatorade (08/30/2014) [-]
You do know the Arab Spring didn't start in Libya? I'm sure once the civil war in Libya arose, the West saw an opportunity and they took it. But I would argue the west didn't start the Arab spring.

"The Arab Spring is widely believed to have been instigated by dissatisfaction with the rule of local governments, though some have speculated that wide gaps in income levels may have had a hand as well.[46] Numerous factors have led to the protests, including issues such as dictatorship or absolute monarchy, human rights violations, political corruption (demonstrated by Wiki leaks diplomatic cables),[47]"

It was just an opportunity they saw and they took it.
#118 to #112 - dehumanizer (08/30/2014) [-]
It was a staged political coup. And now its run amock in the form of ISIS.
User avatar #122 to #118 - gatorade (08/30/2014) [-]
It started in Tunisia, and that country is not in shambles. It all depended on how the government of that certain country handled it and how fervent the people were for change.

It wasn't staged, it's the natural way of people. Of younger generations.

Also Syria, we're supporting the FSA because Russia and Iran are support Assad. It's a proxy war. We aren't supporting terrorist, we're supporting Rebels, what happens to that support depends on how strong the good FSA want it compared to the bad FSA/ISIS. It's not black and white.
#123 to #122 - dehumanizer (08/30/2014) [-]
It all depended on weather the goverment was pro-israel or not.

Generations can be controled by propaganda.

Supporting rebels eh? Do you support the irish revolutionary army and hamas aswell?
User avatar #124 to #123 - gatorade (08/30/2014) [-]
IRA was good when they were created but then they morphed into young people with radical and violent ideas that commited disgusting crimes. Hamas fires and hides rockets near schools and residential areas.

Egypt was and is pro israel... well more anti-hamas but they still had two government changes.

A bunch of people screaming about US invading Afghanistan, even though their home country also were part of action in Afghanistan.
A bunch of Americans trying to bring up decently fair arguments to why the US decided to intervene, but give up because of trolls.
A bunch of Englishman trying to compliment the US for meaning well, but bring up valid points as to why both nations should not have continued any involvement.
A retard spewing **** about Jews and the Illuminati.
A Jew getting offended

#41 to #20 - djlite (08/30/2014) [-]
A fair statement mostly, but not everyone agrees with the actions or even laws of their own country. I think Oz needs to stop following the American everywhere and make our own goddamn decisions on whether getting involved is a good thing or not. We just blindly followed America into Vietnam, and while we did fight smarter than most Americans did, and suffered less losses percentage-wise, it still ended as a massive ******* for everyone involved.
User avatar #82 to #20 - bestfoxgirl (08/30/2014) [-]
So, where's this decently fair argument justifying an invasion on a sovereign country?

First time I've actually seen somebody say it. Well-stated.

I get that people have a right to feel however they want about the military and its members (freedom of speech and all that) but a whole lot of people seem to be under the impression that the soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors actually like all the fighting. Coming from the experience of having known several members of the service in my life, they don't. Or, at least, most don't.

Second, you reminded me of something when you mentioned the raising rates of child suicide (which is absolutely terrible that there's even an environment in which that can happen but not quite my topic). Similarly, suicide rates among veterans of military service are also pretty high (I doubt I have to tell you this but I feel like most people who read this comment would not have thought about it). Some may be lucky enough to walk away from combat without physical injuries but I'm damn sure that pretty much everybody's carrying some psychological wounds. And people just don't think about that when they talk about how everyone in the military is a murderer or a criminal or what have you.

You can really see that these people know they're wrong for saying what they say, from the way they refuse to give their identities most of the time.

Ish Hitler almost did something similar
But the difference is is that the US can be on our side
User avatar #59 to #54 - linkofreek (08/30/2014) [-]
In Hitlers case the Jews were defenseless, Muslim countries have allies (China, Russia, etc) not to mention the Muslim population constitutes 25% of the world, and the fact that the US armed most of these countries with their weapons, they'll put up quite a fight. And before you say Nuke all of them, the US can't risk destroying their precious oil refineries in the process.
