I played with a group which became hilariously simplified because the opening of the adventure was full of that **** . The DM wasn't expecting us to be able to get around his cleverness, but never underestimate the power of sarcasm in moderately sized groups.

He had incorporated riddles into the adventure as well.

That's how a lot of DM's (at least me) do their thing. You make the 'answer' blatantly obvious, but then it's a trap, but then every now and then you switch it up to give your players trust issues.
