it isn't stands for hardware abstraction layer. It's the software that interfaces with your hardware.

I've had that three separate times over the course of having a computer, and all three of them happened when I was playing Fallout 3, oddly enough. Long story short, I now check for updates for my graphics card's driver on a regular basis because I'm goddamn sick of seeing "DRIVERIRQLNOTLESSOR_EQUAL" right before I remember to save my game for the first time in an hour.

If you make it look cute and understandable, then people think they're pro when they've diagnosed the problem as "It can't handle it" to their friends instead of "Dunno, it's just proper ****** ".

Exactly. Don't pay for Windows and then complain that they're trying to make it intuitive when that's the entire point of an operating system. Just use Linux if it seriously bothers you that much.
#97 to #93 - dontknowmeatall (06/30/2014) [-]
You can't not pay for the system. It comes pre-installed. Even if you hate it and uninstall it immediately, you already paid for it, want it or not. That's one of the problems.
User avatar #106 to #97 - Yardie ONLINE (06/30/2014) [-]
Except that's not true at all. It's incredibly easy to build your own computer and install something like Unbuntu instead of Windows and it's a lot cheaper.
#101 to #97 - anon (06/30/2014) [-]
Then build your own god damn computer and stop bitching

-The design sucks.
-You can't put the cursor in a corner of the screen because a floppy thingy pops out.
-Windows talks to you like you're retarded.
-The default browser is unusable, to the point that finding the link to download Chrome takes ten minutes.
-You can't even change the colour theme.
-Most admin functions are hidden or restricted in a way that you have to relearn the whole system and hope that you can do what you wanted.
-It looks ******* horrible.
-You require an internet connection for bloody everything.
-Idiots who don't even use it defend it because it's new and edgy.

You sound like you're just having a terrible time trying to learn/understand it or you're just not trying.

1. The design is alright, but nothing amazing. They made it with touch screens in mind unfortunately, but it still works fine with mouse.

2. Why do you put your cursor in the corner of the screen all the time, and the things that pop out arent making it so you "cant".

3. Microsoft wants a easier to use OS to compete with Apple. not everyone knows a computer like the back of their hand, thats like saying "i know alot about computers, how dare they insult my intelligence by making it easier to understand for the millions of other people who dont have time or just dont care enough about computers to learn them.

4. the internet explorer on 8 is no different from the one on all previous OS. did you try opening it from the desktop? cause thats the exact same as it is on XP, 7, etc.

5. Yes you can, its called the settings button, or if you're really impaired, typing "customization" in the search bar.

6. Yeah it takes a day or two to get used to, is it really that difficult?

7. Opinion

8. No, you don't.

9. How is it edgy? What? I'm defending it cause I have to know all about it in and out for my job. The only windows that sucks is Vista, and in some platforms, Windows 8 is the only one that would seem right (Surface Pro, 2 in 1 computers, etc.)

I know, right? Windows 8.1 is worse than Vista. It ***** up on my PC so often, it frequently crashes and they don't give you any detailed reasons like in Windows 7, some browsers are not fully compatible with it because Flash Player is no longer supported and Internet Explorer has it incorporated or some **** , it freezes if you don't let it do its updates and it doesn't let you access the metro interface until you reboot the PC, and it has all sort of inexplicable bugs.

> ***** up your computer
The only reason it's ****** up is because you don't have the technical background to fix it, and having done IT work for a long time, likely story is it's something incredibly stupid like GPU drivers not being up-to-date. That's a user-end problem.
>Detailed reports
You don't know how to troubleshoot either. If you're getting BSoDs, use Bluescreenviewer, in fact use that program for all versions of Windows - not just 8.1.
>Flash player no longer supported
What? The only support that isn't there for Flash is on the Android. So I've no clue what the **** you're talking about.
>Internet Explorer is incorporated
IE comes with every version of Windows by default, and there are some programs that need it if they don't happen to use a Webkit. It's not so common now, but it still happens.
>Inexplicable bugs
Like every OS on the face of the Earth.

Right now it doesn't look nearly as good as it looks in the movies, mainly because the game is in pre-alpha state.

In an interview regarding the game, the HUD guy also said that he has no experience with videogames, he's still learning. I'm 100% sure that he will deliver when the game is in a more finished state, though. Maybe we'll see something even better than in Iron Man.

When they release the persistent universe, we'll have some kind of special device in our arm called MobiGlass, it will basically be a head's up display hologram. Like in Dead Space but in your arm rather than in your helmets.

This is true, the last time I ever saw a computer blue screen, it was a Windows XP from like launch year, and I tried to install Morrowind on it. This computer was already unbearably slow so when I tried to launch it, the computer blue screened and then never turned on again. This was many years ago.

Last time it happened me was two years ago and that was a Windows 7 computer. It probably mostly depends on how well the actual computer handles things, although an XP computer might be more prone to blue screening.

TechFag here.

Most problems with the windows based OS are normally user error. People don't know what the fack they are doing most of the time and get **** like

"oh this registry optimizer program they are flashing on the screen looks great! speed my PC up by 200% what more could I ask for!"

and then when everything goes to **** , "I don't know what happened! I must be these games my teenager downloaded."

Then you fix it and it happens again, "oh it worked fine until you fixed it!"

and then facepalm.

and don't give me that "apple doesnt have these problems" ******** . I've had to fix so many damn apples because people **** them up. Not as many people own an apple compared to PC so therefore the raw statistics are going to say apple has less issues.

There really aren't any downfalls. It's more of a matter of preference.

Wouldn't cost and the fact that you can't upgrade them a bit of a downfall?
#32 to #31 - cobrien (06/30/2014) [-]
The cost is actually a big misconception. The multi-thousand dollar Mac's are top of the line. They just happen to also be the most popular. A $1600 Macbook will come with an i7 quad-core processor, high end HD graphics card, etc. And as for upgrading, I suppose that's where preference comes in. I see no need to update my Mac since the specs are so good, and a nice benefit is that upgrading to the next operating system is extremely cheap, and can cost as little at $20. I haven't looked into Mac upgrades at all, so I'm not sure what the options are there.
User avatar #57 to #32 - oceanmist (06/30/2014) [-]
The quad core macbooks start at 2k if I'm not mistaken. And they come with Intels integrated graphics, which I wouldn't really call high end. You can get a windows laptop with the same processor and a better graphics card for about $800. The biggest plus to apple products is their editing software is pretty good and easy to pick up.
#62 to #57 - cobrien (06/30/2014) [-]
I think your information might be outdated or something, because I got my Macbook for about 1500 or 1600 dollars, and it came with a Radeon HD graphics card, all standard. I think you might be mixing up the specs of one model and the cost of another.

I've also added Windows Ultimate, but if you want the home version, that'll be 90 bucks less.

And since they really didn't give any specifications on their monitors. I went with the most expensive/highest rated one I can find. But you could easily subtract 200 bucks from that and get something like this

At Microcenter you can get a 4790k for $270, in fact I built my computer with a 4770k, 8GB ram, two r9 270x in crossfire, with a water cooler for around $1,000.

True, some of the models a few years old are a bit cheaper and came with Radeon mobile chips. Those cards perform about the same as the intel integrated stuff they have now though.

I looked on the website and you're right. The new ones do use Intel graphics cards, which I find weird. But yeah, they do use those now. And thank you for responding reasonably instead of ignorantly bashing my opinions like most of these degenerates.

I think you information might be outdated, neither Pro, nor air use Radeon GPUs, they all have some form of intel graphics.

the only ones that even have a dedicated GPU is the 15 inch PRO ($2000 - $2600) and that nvidia GT 750m. a random laptop from tigardirect (Priced $1999)has a GTX 870m(far better than 750m) plus it beats even the $2600 version on literally every other spec by miles
