Firefox MP4 CPU Test

I wrote javascript to pause autoplay videos that are out of view.

And when those videos come back into view, it plays them.

Take the poll at the bottom and tell me if this page was slow on firefox!

Did this page slow down your browser and spike CPU usage? strawpoll.me/6079183

Guess it's because it's not one of the more popular browsers, but these last updates made a number of videos stop being able to be played by Maxthon. Can't even see these videos anymore as soon as the scripts finish loading in. Do I just give up on this browser and use another one for FJ? all other sights work perfectly fine, so I know it's not the browser having issues per se, but it's not liking what you've done.

Cloud based browser, so if you want you can have all your bookmarks and auto-fills carry over between your phone, desktop, laptop, and/or tablet is nice (optional and off by default if you're worried about someone else logging on to your account). Maxthon has won the Webware 100 award multiple times, along with other awards, for best internet browser, has easy-to-create plugins so you can customize your browsing experience, and the homepage is customizable to have your favorites and more. Ad-block plus coming with it automatically is nice too. In short, it's a lot like most common browsers mixed together and uses the good parts of them while asking little from your computer. www.maxthon.com/about-us/ and www.maxthon.com/awards/

i have an fat copper zalman thingie, but whats the catch of hyperthreading?
#89 to #75 - BloodyTurds (11/23/2015) [-]
a 1 core cpu runs instructions 1 at a time. from a single thread of code;
StartA, FinishA, StartB, Finish B, StartC, FinishC

a hyperthreaded core switches back and forth between 2 threads;
StartA,StartB,FinishA,StartC,FinishB,FinishC

Imagine that you have the following 4 task
hit Q 5 times
hit W 5 times
hit E 5 times
hit R 5 times
1 core cpu:
QQQQQWWWWWEEEEERRRRR (takes 1 core 62 seconds)

2 core cpu: (takes 2 cores 31 seconds each, if the program is properly multi-threaded. 60~ seconds if it isn't)
Core1: QQQQQRRRRR (E, and R may be inverted here)
Core2: WWWWEEEEE

1 core hyperthreaded cpu: (takes 1 core 33-68 seconds)
Core1:QWWQQWQQWEWRERREERER(or some variation)
-virtual1:QQQQQEEEEE
-virtual2:WWWWWRRRRR

User avatar #90 to #89 - underhatten (11/23/2015) [-]
thanks, thats the kind of facts i want. but i also read that the i7 cpus have hyperthreading active as standard
#91 to #90 - BloodyTurds (11/23/2015) [-]
Yes, because MOST programs are multi-threaded nowadays. and 95% of the time, its better to have hyper-threading on.

God bless the i7 CPUs
User avatar #223 to #89 - deadlyfoez (11/23/2015) [-]
For all intents and purposes, your explanation makes it easy for the average user to understand.
From my understanding is that it truly is a little different. When hyperthreading first came out it was that all the unused processing cycles of a core where make available to a virtual thread. It certainly may be different now, but if my memory serves me correctly, that was technically how it worked, at least back in the day.
User avatar #224 to #223 - deadlyfoez (11/23/2015) [-]
Please correct me if I am wrong.
#230 to #224 - BloodyTurds (11/23/2015) [-]
I'm pretty sure you are correct, because it takes time to fetch information from ram, that leaves the processor 'open' to preform other calculations while it waits
User avatar #73 to #71 - infurnus (11/23/2015) [-]

I saw the cpu use increase by ~30-40% while scrolling, but once I stopped scrolling, the cpu use went back down. Responsiveness was impeccable in both circumstances. Thanks, based admin.

My task bar gives me quick access to some very nice programs I use often and "new folder four" is a project folder I was working out of. I use my desktop as a temporary work space. I keep less frequently used programs pinned to the start menu.
I go back as many times as needed until it comes back clean. Sometimes I'll dab a little water on it then re-wipe if It felt tacky or if I had a violent episode back there.
