Only on Lunatic+ is that true though, any thing else, all the other units outclass him once they level up a bit.
Even on Lunatic+, once you are able to grind, Fredericks usefullness is less and less.
I bet you are one of those casuls that has to use their beginner paladin/knight to win. Do you even tip the scales? jk play whatever you wish. just a tip is in any Fire Emblem game that does not allow you to easily grind is to not rely on your pre-promoted character (ie Marcus, Frederick, Seth, etc) If you let them do little to no work, then the game becomes far more interesting and your lower level characters begin to become god tier by the end of the game (provided if they have good growth stats), quickly surpassing most recruited pre-promoted characters because pre-promoted characters steal away precious early-game exp allowing the characters to become compitent in later battles.
The difference is that since Awakening allows for grinding, Frederick can become just as useful as any other 1st generation character, especially with clever use of re-classing to give him more abilities. 2nd gen characters still always beat them all, unless you're particularly **** at eugenics.
"any Fire Emblem game that does not allow you to easily grind". Those games are a little more intersting unless you do arena spamming. Awakening is so much easier because of broken skills and grinding so strategy is not there except for the few very hard paralogues. I actually beaten a whole level in one turn with a paired up character in my grind save file.
Seth was mounted, not sure if Fred was. Gives Seth the massive advantage of high mobility and able to rescue ******* anyone. Swords also make him useful against 90% of enemies you fight in the first leg of the game, up until you start fighting the army proper instead of just bandits, at which point he can use spears to match the enemy and get an advantage over sword users, as axe users tend to become extremely rare until late game, at which point they disappear for all the monsters. If you do find an axe wielder, well, at that point, you've got a ton of sword users on back-up too.
You should wait until FE Fates releases. They've added head patting/touching (as shown in gif.) As your relationship builds with that character the camera will also gain the ability to move on to their chest and they'll be willing to take off their armor at some point in a different section of the "gameplay."
They also talk while you touch them and their lines start getting lewd as **** as you start reaching S rank with them.
Leon: Do you want me? I understand. I too, want you, it's unbearable.
Lazwald: I also want to touch you, will you come closer?
Zero: It's lonely...it's agonizing. When you are not here (existing), it's just not right/good.
Camilla: When you do it this much, it's embarassing...
Camilla: The way you're using your hand feels sooo good. Very skillful. Reminder that this is what Fire Emblem has become
Basically. It's made original fans of the the game pretty pissed but they have said level design is better than awakening. I'd say if you're into what they have to offer disguised as a strategy RPG, go right ahead. With the inclusion of Phoenix mode (which makes anyone who died that turn get revived the next) you could totally just treat this game as a dating sim of sorts.
Fire Emblem is my favorite ******* game series of all time, and I'm so happy Awakening was popular enough to keep the series going, and even made it more profitable.
For those of you that have never played Fire Emblem; if you have any interest in Turn Based Strategy, than play it, any one of them. But keep in mind they are all different, such as what types of weapons each unit can wield, how class changes work, etc.etc.
If I were to recommend one to someone new to the series; I'd say Awakening because (unlike most of the others) the price hasn't wen't up yet, it's still about $40. If you want to save some money (But get a game that is not quite as good) Shadow Dragon on the DS is a remake of the first Fire Emblem game on the Super Famicom, it's about $25, but keep in mind, this one is graphically ugly, and harder than some, and you gotta deal with bitch-boy Marth. (But hey at Least it's not Roy)
If you're someone that has only played Awakening and wants to get more into the series, I'd recommend either of the Radiance games, but they are a bit pricey, at $100 for Path of Radiance on the Gamecube and $85 for Radiant Dawn on the Wii. Keep in mind, this is one of the few in the series that the two games are actually a direct sequel to each other. Again, as a money saver, for about $35 - $50 any of the GBA ones are great choices, My personal favorite is one of the GBA games; Sacred Stones but Rekka no Ken (Simply known as Fire Emblem in the West) is a great choice too, and Lord Hector is a badass. Fire Emblem 6 (can't remember the name for the life of me) is a GBA title (only released in Japan though), but that has Roy, and it's a solid game, but Roy sucks as far as a character and stat growths go, but if you just have the biggest horse boner for Roy due to smash, that's the one you want. You could always go with Shadow Dragon as I said before, but keep in mind what I said before.
I hope my rant was useful to at least one person.
On a side note, I can't ******* wait for Fire Emblem Fates.
Or Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensai, two of my favorite game series coming together I mean damn.
Roy w/ Sword of Seals is the most broken character in his game if you actually put any effort into him. Just got to deal with his level 20 plateau and then it's only up from there.
Dude i love Fire Emblem too. The combination of unique memorable characters and a perma-death challenge is awesome. I've been going through the series with my friend for the past few days and he's been loving it too, just need to some how get a hold of path of radiance so we can move on to radiant dawn which i already have.
^the announcement of fire emblem fates gave me a massive boner, i have not looked forward to a game that much since awakening, and before that i can't even remember when i did.
Henry is the best character personality wise from Fire Emblem Awakening.
His growths are definitely subpar compared to Miss Stalky Stalk, Especially in Speed and Magic, but if they were better he'd sure be the best Dark Mage in the game!
Sully was meant to be with Virion no matter how great she is. I ended up with Nowi felt like **** when I disappeared at the end, thought the protagonist would be the most reliable person to pair her with so she would never be alone, and I was wrong.
First time through, Chrom. I didn't even want to, I just happened to keep my character female, obviously and Chrom together, because they were the strongest, and they ended up getting married. Then every single battle became my unit, Chrom, Morgan, Lucina, and the corpses of everyone else, because they were absolutely ***** .
Mine was Tharja.
And as much as I love her as a character aside, If you made Robin a magic based tactician, the stat boosts were GODLIKE when they were near each other.
I went with Olivia. She does alot of cute **** and her speed/skill/luck buffs were nice.
Although it's not like Robin needs buffs. That guy makes Donnel look bad. Robin, Morgan and Donnel where my best units. I went through all the later side quests with just those three and their pair-ups.
i married bunny waifu. i dont remember her name, but i saw her character and my initial thought was that i needed my character to **** her at all costs.
I paired her with Virion because I found it goddamn hilarious to watch them bicker. I then paired Robin with Lucina because "HA HA CHROM I'M BANGING YOUR DAUGHTER."
I am not sure about awakening, but it is part of a log series of games in which every installment (I'v played) are great. All the games were released exclusively on nintendo consoles, so it is pretty easy to emulate them
emulators
there isn't a 3DS emulator though, so no awakening
look up these roms for the GBA emulator
- The Sacred Stones
- Rekka No Ken
and these for the nintendo DS
- Fire Emblem Shin Monshou no Nazo ~Hikari to Kage no Eiyuu (there's a translation somewhere on a site)
- Shadow Dragon
