I havent been into animangos in years but this explains Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood

I actually like how they do it. Instead of making fillers, just make a new story for anime, since it is going so fast. And then just remade one that follow the manga

Are all anime series based on manga?
User avatar #6 to #5 - admiralloli [OP](05/03/2015) [-]
im not entirely sure, but i think some are based off visual novels or games
User avatar #7 to #5 - lyiat ONLINE (05/03/2015) [-]
Not really. Plenty of anime are their own series, which are later transcribed into manga.
User avatar #10 to #7 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
this is simply wrong

You're full of **** . Right off the top of my head, Mobile Suit Gundam started as an anime.
User avatar #12 to #11 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
great. 1% of anime is anime original

Gurren Lagann
Voltron
Pokemon
Wolf's Rain
Angel Beats!
Big O
FLCL
Paranoia Agent

Just to name a few very noteworthy and famous examples. It's much more goddamn common than you give it credit for. You're full of crap.
User avatar #32 to #13 - yibdiy (05/05/2015) [-]
Gurren Lagann sure.
Voltron sure.
Pokemon was game first, then anime. Manga got published the same month the anime started airing and it's based on the game, not the anime.
Wolf's Rain sure.
Angel Beats was a novel first, then a manga and then anime that was set in the same universe but was a sequel of sorts.
The Big O had manga first.
FLCL had manga first.
Paranoia Agent sure.

So 50% of your examples got debunked.

Here, have a few more titles to put on your list though:
Afro Samurai
Aldnoah.Zero
Cowboy Bebop
Death Billiards + Death Parade
Gunbuster + Diebuster
Higashi no Eden
Mars of Destruction
Oban Star-Racers
Psycho Pass
Samurai Champloo
Samurai Flamenco
Serial Experiments Lain
Vividred Operation
Wizard Barristers

But you know what? This **** still doesn't make even a single % of anime, not even 0.1% of anime. Well, let's be generous and say that 1-3% of anime is actually original stuff. In what way is 1-3% of a whole medium plenty? No idea why Newb would go for such high estimates, but whatever.
Question was "Are all anime series based on manga?" and the answer is "No, most are based on Manga, LNs, VNs and other mediums popular in japan, there is also some, certainly not plenty, original stuff though."

tl;dr "hurr durr, I don't know **** about this and talk out of my ass" - You
User avatar #14 to #13 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
still less than 10%

and if i were really generous and said 15-20%

its still not "plenty"

so no, you're the one who's full of ****

How is one of the longest ******* running franchises in the anime world not plenty on it's own? The question was, "Are all anime series based on manga?". The answer is, "No, there are plenty that are not." You're ******* splitting hairs and being a twit. Some of the most famous anime out there started as anime. Period. You can't argue that.
User avatar #16 to #15 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
and there are more, even longer franchises that are based on manga.
User avatar #17 to #16 - lyiat ONLINE (05/03/2015) [-]
Which is not remotely relevant to the question asked.
User avatar #18 to #17 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
you first used it as part of your argument, bud

The number of manga first animes does not diminish the number of anime first animes. You have zero comprehension.
User avatar #20 to #19 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
so do you, apparently...

Oh for the love of **** . The vast majority of sports teams across the board in the United States are male. That does not ******* mean that there are not plenty of female sports teams in the United States. The overwhelming percentage of one does not make the other non-existent, or even rare.
User avatar #22 to #21 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
for the love of **** , fine
User avatar #9 to #5 - newbtwo (05/03/2015) [-]
most anime is made from either manga, visual novels or light novels.

You could use my expertise.
As a nolifing NEET that watches Anime 13 hours a day and research it for two, I happen to be an amateurly expert on the topic.

In the past, most Anime were based on Manga. These days most Anime are however based on "light novels" which are basically novels with anime drawings around them. They're usually more popular as most manga is either directed towards boys or girls (due to the Weekly shounen* jump and shoujo** publications) while light novels are unisex, for the most part.

So no, not all Anime are based on manga. There are also those based on light novels.

But there are more versions of it. Some Anime are based on dating simulators, and other publications. Hell, even Moomin is an Anime as it was produced in Japan. (And the Japs love it over there.)

There are also a bunch of Anime that have no source material. Some of the more popular ones include Kill La Kill, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Neon Genesis Evangelion and FLCL. But there's tons of these. Meaning they were made to be an Anime.

The newest Dragon Ball show, Dragon Ball Super, set to start this summer, is one of those. It follows after the end of the DBZ manga and the last 2 movies, and it's canon as it's Akira-sama that's working on it as storyboard.

*Shounen is basically teenage boy.
**Shoujo is basically teenage girl.

Are you new to watching anime? I'm not sure how someone can watch 13 hours a day. What do you watch? New series or just rewatch what you like?
#31 to #23 - jettom ONLINE (05/04/2015) [-]
I've been watching Anime since I was 12. I'm 20 right now.
It's called escapism. And I watch all airing shows every season, as well as rewatch shows I like, and watch new shows.
For an example, yesterday I catched up on all the airing shows, as it was a Sunday. That was about 14 episodes I think. Which is 4 hours of watching. Then I rewatched Servant x Service, which is 13 episodes, another 4 hours, after I saw Servant x Service to completion I decided to rewatch what had come out of Kyoukai No Rinne (4 episodes, fifth isn't subbed yet), Punchline (4 episodes) and Hibike (another four episodes). Adding up to about 13 hours. Though somedays I wont watch anime at all, and other days I'll skip sleep to finish a really good, long Anime I've found.

And taste is subjective. Most anime is **** in my opinion, but I can enjoy it for what it is.

I have 2 monitors and I've watched 26 episodes in a single day, Black Lagoon comes to mind, as well as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's doable, I don't make a habit of it though as I haven't found many animes that I can tolerate for more than 2 or 3 episodes at a time.

I meant 13 hours a day, everyday. There is simply too little good anime to justify that.

why can't they just do things whole. Make a whole season of anime when a whole season worth of manga is done.

do other projects while waiting

Because it has alot to do with popularity and how it is recieved. Some anime are made as only 1 season because this can get people to buy the manga to find out how it ends. Also the first season might not be popular enough to varant a second season, so it stops. Some manga are even created only to gauge wether its popular enough to become an anime, say SAO for example. Animes based on manga often have to be made relatively close to the publishing of the manga, so that the hype regarding the manga doesn´t die out by the time the anime airs.

It's not Soul Eater
The main Soul Eater manga takes a huge turn away from the anime, but then they put this out, set in the past before the events of the anime/manga. It's about cute weapons/meisters doing cute things with a couple really bad fight scenes. Stay as far away from it as possible.
