Meh. Whats so powerful about that?
#28 to #23 - anon (02/11/2014) [-]
Because the man has spoken truly of his disorder and how that girl changed it for him, making himself feel slightly normal. He was in love. It's also powerful because he said it in front of a bunch of people I'm assuming he doesn't know, which would've of taken a lot of courage on his part. Sooo...yeah, powerful stuff.

The first time I saw this video I probably hit that little replay button four or five times. That same week I would probably watch this once or twice a day. It was a weird mix of happiness and sadness that I couldn't get anywhere else. I think by the tenth time around I actually expected the ending to change.

Months later this is hitting me a little harder than usual, but I'll gladly take the feels knowing that there's probably another person on this site who loves this as much as I do.

A friend of mine shared this video to me on Facebook when it came out, and I would constantly go back and watch it for the sadness, the happiness, the beauty in it, and the hope that he has that maybe one day she'll come back. While studying for a midterm I have tomorrow, I came across this quote (in a thermodynamics book of all places) and I think that it fits this pretty well:

Back in the day I watched these sort of videos, or anything love related and I simply said "get over it" or "it can't be THAT bad". That is before I knew what love felt like.
Having a crush? Sure. Wanting to have a couple or someone to be with you? That too. But love... Love is when you ache, when like he said, you can't think of anyone else that way, when you miss someone and put all your passion, even if you feel like the passion has burned out, in yourself and something like this comes out. Never thought I'd know what love feels like and now look at me... Heh. I suppose I would be telling myself "get over it" sometime ago.

#278 - hankhillofthe (02/12/2014) [-]
I don't really know what it's like to lose someone you love, and my OCD wasn't really a compulsive tick, it was just an obsessive compulsion to do something at all times...

...but I do know what it's like loving someone and not getting to have them because they think you're a burden. I know what it's like to obsess over seeing them with other people and being happier, and the shame that comes with the sadness. I know what it's like feeling like your problem, or who you are, is just a burden in general. Something that's not just what you do, but your very personality, and I know how it feels to have it negatively affect all of those around you, and you're absolutely and without exception unable to control it.

It's dark. So very, very dark.

Those with OCD are much like those with Dopamine deficiencies, we don't know what it's like to feel normal. In the case of daredevils like Evil Knievel whom did those feats of thrill just so that he could feel normal, those of us with OCD don't know what it's like to feel normal, but we do these obsessive activities either physically or mentally so that we can feel okay.

When I was going through my habits, I was also love-obsessed. It was the only thing in the world that distracted me from my habits which caused me to be constantly irritable and depressed. That was my life for 18 years.

Some time back, my doctor put me on correcting medication, and it broke the habits that I had.

I'd break the character limit if I explained what it is that I had, but it was very severe, and very subtle and hard to understand even from an inside perspective.

Feeling normal since then and still is; the best experience ever. To be able to live and be happy and confident and not have to have the constant anxieties and depressors of OCD.

But I remember. I remember what it was like.

I hope I never, ever go back.

And I hope this man can one day find the peace that I was so luckily given where others have been incorrectly prescribed...

Yeah man, sure. They were basically forced to mime because the super bowl didn't want to risk something small like an amp or a guitar or mic giving out (which is understandable I guess, but the i honestly doubt something would have happened.. although you never know...) but rhcp ended up making it right by not trying to hide the fact they were miming (clearly unplugged guitars, tweets from flea etc...). I donno i just dont like how the big company had to go and basically tell them how to do what they've been doing on tour for the past 20 years...

I don't think it had to do with mics giving out. Cold weather can warp the sound produced by stringed instruments, which of course will ruin the quality of the music. Good thing is that they did a recording specifically for the super bowl a day or two before so it isn't like they ripped from a cd. The NFL didn't want to risk their biggest show being ruined by weather.

"warp the sound produced by the stringed instruments"
Eh, I guess you're kind of right (bit of background, I've been playing guitar for ten years, i gig regularly, i'm from canada so i know what cold is and i've played some festivals in some pretty goddamn cold weather) a sudden change in temperature will throw the guitars out of tune and it does suck to play when your hands are cold, but other than that we weather doesn't mean that much unless its pissing rain or something. It honestly doesn't matter why they were asked to mime. I didn't know they did a recording but thats pretty cool. My opinion on the band still hasn't changed.
